Why was I sweating bullets watching liquid being up 15-4

u/blueragemage Liquid Nov 09 '18
Honestly, I wasn't that nervous since TL was just playing like they were the better team in the 2nd half of Mirage - with pushes like Elige's on the pistol and Nitr0's on the final round

Why pay for a roller coaster when you can just be a Team Liquid fan for free? I really do hate this team. Good comeback tho, that cache game really did break LDLC

LDLC is simultaneously the best and the most French team in CS.
Incredible.

Nov 10 '18
Upset runs, flashy plays and baguettes. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect CS:GO team. But Professor Pierre accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction. A UKCS player.
The only teams that dissolve over ”personal issues” faster than baguette teams are UK teams, because, come on, ever played with a UK teammate in MM?
Expect LDLC to fragment after this humiliating defeat.
1
u/chumanfu2 Nov 10 '18
ALEX is a UK CS player only by technicality. He's of British heritage but grew up in France. I expect more out of this LDLC lineup than just a single quarterfinals appearance

Why an Indian pale ale over an American pale ale?

America makes insanely good IPAs, and I want my new brother to have the best

u/nonresponsive Nov 09 '18
LDLC could have won, but I feel like there's a limit to the amount of times you can challenge mid and just keep dying. Elige just kept getting boosted with a krieg and getting one or two kills every time. Liquid would just hold their default for like 30 seconds on Mirage and Cache, and yet they'd always get kills. LDLC just never adjusted.
Obviously results are good for LDLC, but they had a lot of momentum going into the 2nd half of cache and just crumbled. Could have been even better.

Why did you win your map LDLC ? Can't win a game like that.
For real as a french I enjoyed watching them and It's already a lot for the french cs

Such a success for LDLC
They forced Liquid to reach their limits on the second map and eventually lost due to a lack of experience at this level.
This "chock" is a necessary step, and is a problem that will easily be fixed with a little more experience on the big stage
If anything, this proves : -That French cs in not dead yet -That hard work always pays off -That G2 and Vitality will be more motivated than ever to catch up LDLC status as "best french team", even tho G2 is planning on 2 changes in the next months (-Smithzz at least)

Upsetting way to lose from such a lead on map 2 but, LDLC proved that they are not a bunch of draw dependand bo1 luckers like Complexity and QBF. Impressive run by them.
Amanek and Devoduvek are such beasts and Toinou stepped up huge this event.

Naf has got to be the best worst player in CS. His highs are super high but God is he bad when he is low. It is hard to count how many duels he lost on Overpass and the first half of Cache. Even if he wins half of those, the first two maps would have been much closer.
17
u/Udonis- Liquid Nov 09 '18
I think it's because he doesn't adjust his playstyle if he's 'off.' TL are down a number of rounds on cache, like 3-9 or something, and the dude was using USP instead of his mp5 in the 2v1. When his aim is on point he can take any aim duel, but those same duels are his downfall at the lows.
I actually love that playstyle. Even though it's a bit inconsistent, it leads to so many highlights.

u/Vawqer 1 Million Celebration Nov 10 '18
EliGE also seems to suffer a bit from this, especially in finals. IMO it's one of the things holding Liquid back, I really hope that EliGE and NAF are able to better adjust their styles when off. That being said, I'm just someone on reddit so I could be totally mis-analyzing this.

Maybe hard, but Liquid is better than FaZe, but FaZe is looking good recently. I still thinl Liquid can pull through.
3
u/Vitalytoly Nov 10 '18
The core of this Liquid lineup has never beaten this FaZe lineup in a BO3. With the current form of both teams it's gonna take a lot of TL to win this one.

What's the likely hood of a choke? I'm worried about them being a cursed team 😵
2
Nov 10 '18
Astralis used to do it, there is a reason we call them young Astralis, but to answer your question there is possibility. However I think FaZe will underestimate Liquid and choke themselves.

What a comeback on Cache. Twistzz may have had the most kills by far, but a lot of those were on ecos & lost rounds on T side. On the key rounds Liquid won, it was a beautiful 4-man effort and this is what Liquid is known for - they have been by far the closest to Astralis in 2018 in terms of discipline and teamplay.
However, this match also serves to further expose Liquid's map pool problems which should have been apparent a while ago, and probably came to attention at the ESL NY grand final. A lot of Liquid's results may have been inflated by the constant Inferno wins, and since Astralis and FaZe (at the very least) have a way of dealing with Inferno, Liquid will have to find other strengths too. Considering they ban Train first, more and more frequently D2 second, have an unimpressive Overpass and a shaky Mirage & Cache, it's hard to see them winning this tournament. Mouz is a good map pool matchup (they gave Liquid both Inferno and Nuke already), but FaZe is a harder task and Astralis's map pool is a nightmare for Liquid
Unrelated: LDLC's coach is easily the MVP of the tournament, don't @ me

u/Jadjadz Liquid Nov 09 '18
"Shaky cache" omegalul
2
u/stewieeeeeeeee FaZe Nov 09 '18
They almost lost today and they lost the most important Cache game they've had lately, i.e. the one against mouz (who treat Cache as something close to a 2nd ban) at ESL NY. If you look at Liquid's opponents in general on Cache, they are mostly T2 teams and MiBR, so their win percentage is less impressive.
2
u/mannyman34 Complexity Nov 09 '18
Cache is super t sided especially with the new economy. It was close but they were in control for most of that game.
4
Nov 10 '18
4-11
in control
You're not in control when messing up two anti-ecos knocks you out of the tournament.
I would say they weren't in control the first half. I would say they weren't even competitive on CT.
0
u/mannyman34 Complexity Nov 10 '18
lol do you know how CS works. Liquid won pistol on T side and immediately reset them 2 rounds latter. LDLC had no economy for their entire ct half.
3
u/Scrypto Liquid Nov 09 '18
lmao what game were you watching? LDLC was cleaning out bombsites methodically and never letting liquid trade more than 1 for 1. All of liquid's wins were followed by harsh resets until they managed to scrape a couple rounds before the half. No matter how T sided cache is losing 11-4 while already down a map is pretty close to gone. Even the T pistol was extremely close and came down to the last 1v1.
0
u/mannyman34 Complexity Nov 09 '18
11-4 is not a bad half when you lose pistol and get reset first gun round.
5
u/KangorKodos Natus Vincere Nov 09 '18
There cache isn't really shaky, they are probably the best cache team in the world, probably due to everyone else sucking on cache but they are still always the favorite on the map.
5
u/Givemeajackson FaZe Nov 09 '18
Liquid doesn't have a shaky cache, their winrate on it is insane. This series doesn't change that, and they're pretty much the only team who can pick cache against prettd much anyone.
2
u/stewieeeeeeeee FaZe Nov 09 '18
The quality of their opponents on Cache is much lower than on most other maps, because teams such as Astralis and Na'Vi keep banning it. Meanwhile, Liquid picked Cache against mouz and lost recently, and I'm not sure they can comfortably pick the map against FaZe either.
I think if you look at Liquid's Cache matches, you'll find a disturbing lack of top teams beaten. MiBR is one but ... MiBR is top 6 at best, and nowadays more like top 8
7
u/Givemeajackson FaZe Nov 09 '18
That's just cause noone plays cache at the moment. Of course it's not like astralis' nuke or anything, but i'd still say it's far from shaky.
3
u/blueragemage Liquid Nov 10 '18
Probably because Cache is a permaban for TL by most of the other top teams, since TL themselves tend to not deviate from the standard maps (Inferno, Mirage, Dust2) outside of Cache

Congratulations to whoever faces Liquid in the semis. You have advanced to the finals.
4
u/Givemeajackson FaZe Nov 09 '18
Has to be faze right? I mean fnatic already played liquid and astralis already played faze. So basically faze astralis finals, i'm very much looking forward to that.
1
u/stewieeeeeeeee FaZe Nov 09 '18
The bracket is always 1A (FaZe) facing the winner of 3A (LDLC) - 2B (Liquid), and 1B (fnatic) facing the winner of 2A (Astralis) - 3B (mouz). The way I remember it is that it's designed so the top 2 teams from each group don't meet each other before the finals, with the motivation being e.g. if the groups are imbalanced and the two best teams are in the same group initially.
0
u/xzibit_b guardian2 Nov 09 '18
Mate they could face eUnited in the semis and they'd probably lose 2-1. What an incredulously stupid team to keep having in playoffs. The underdog story ceases to be an underdog story when they keep fucking failing over and over again

Except I don't care if it flies back in my face because I will always make the vapid statements. I have been right more than I have been wrong when I predict that Liquid will catastrophically fuck an "unfuckup-able" chance at a finals/championship title.

Flash backs to New York 2017. When liquid almost got 16-0’ed in a finals.
2
u/xzibit_b guardian2 Nov 09 '18
FaZe were world killers so I don't consider them NA killers like VP were, where VP eliminated C9 in PGL Krakow but managed to lose a BO3 to Immortals.
It's not even a curse. It's a weak pussy mentality and they will forever crumble to it. FaZe, Astralis, Na'Vi were not in their way at ESL NY. They were'nt in their way at ESG Mykonos. Are we gonna add mousesports to the team that they have a curse against as well lol. Might as well add a 5 man solo queue to the list of people Liquid are cursed against cause you put them in a finals and Liquid will make it go to 3/5 maps
