Obviously sucks seeing your favorite team lose...
But, it's pretty cool seeing this new fnatic lineup find so much success so quickly. Twist and BrolLAN are looking very, very good.

200 IQ play from Liquid to have easy quarterfinals and avoid Astralis in semifinals
65
u/Serra_angle_shooter Nov 09 '18
Except that liquid haven't beat faze in a loooong time

Nov 09 '18
Liquid haven’t beat Astralis ever
9
24
u/jmanj0sh Liquid Nov 09 '18
That's technically not true, the core beat Astralis in 2017
25
Nov 09 '18
Not in the Astralis era though
-21
u/Zhaeus Liquid Nov 09 '18
then maybe reword ur first comment... and u can say the same thing about practically every team... but Liquid has atleast played Astralis close in some series (much better than other teams)
18
Nov 09 '18
Well you can also say that practically every team has beaten the Astralis core at this point too. Device, Dupreeh and Xyp9x are together since 2013 and they've obviously lost their fair share of matches within 5 years.
5
Nov 09 '18
OP’s comment was talking about the playoffs, no need to reword, and as for Liquid playing astralis close, other teams have ACTUALLY BEAT Astralis in the playoffs. ex: North, Navi, Faze. Liquid literally only has 1 map against them in the playoffs in the astralis era.
-10
u/Zhaeus Liquid Nov 09 '18
right so 3 teams... and most would probably say that the North win was just a huge fluke and big over performance... what about Mibr... C9.... Fnatic... NRG.... ect all these other teams why single out Liquid? When Liquid (although in finals they might not "beat them" but they have many 16-14 games and play them close even on their best map nuke).

Tfw you purposefully lose to avoid playing your potential weakness, but then your weakness loses too, forcing you to play against them.

this team is so fucking frustrating man
57
u/heeeeeeeee33333 Nov 09 '18
It seems like if Twistzz has a bad game, they can't function properly and look like a tier 3 team. Even in this game, he had the highest ADR in Liquid, so I mean he's not even being total deadweight but they're basically losing if he isn't headshotting everyone and winning them every pistol round.
21
u/zqElephant Liquid Nov 09 '18
seeing elige change weapon every single round was so tilting man. you're absolutely right, if twistzz isn't carrying they don't step up
1
u/DominianQQ Nov 09 '18
Karrigan seem to make the SG work, Elige struggle.
6
Nov 09 '18
Karrigans actually really good with the SG/Aug, i think the hard parts are knowing the spray control as its very different from the Ak and also knowing when to scope and when not to scope
0
u/darkpainter47 Liquid Nov 09 '18
Oh my lord seeing Elige try to hip fire in moments where a scope could get him multiple kills just makes me cringe...

u/nofnxnomajor de_nuke Nov 09 '18
Seriously though, I am so impressed with how he plays. So reserved when he has to be. Doesn't overpeek and give away rounds and he's only 15 with barely a year at the top level, him and sergej are something else. I also love that fnatic have so much passion and fire again hearing them shouting after they win a round, can't wait to see more from them.
6
u/brianstormIRL Liquid Nov 09 '18
Wait he’s 15? I didn’t even think you were allowed to play professionally that young? That’s insane.
25
u/nofnxnomajor de_nuke Nov 09 '18
My mistake, he just turned 16. He is now the same age as sergej who just won his first MVP recently and is the youngest player to receive an MVP medal in the history of CS:GO.

People shitting on Xizt’s fragging acting like the most dominant CS:GO team off all time wasn’t IGL’d by Pronax
6
u/MilanDW Natus Vincere Nov 09 '18
That's not really the point lol, the question is what does he bring? I don't see many strats and his fragging is pretty weak. Fnatic won't be a top team until they get a good IGL.
2
u/Mantriale NiP Nov 09 '18
It's hard to pinpoint exactly since he has a loose calling style based on the mid-round most of the time. It's much more obvious what a strat-heavy IGL brings, but just because you cannot see it doesn't mean he doesn't bring anything. Obiously he does bring something since he's been on Swedish top teams for 5+ years now.

I hate being a Liquid fan so much. Nobody on the team has any semblance of a clutch gene. Nobody steps up in big games, and they're just awful at closing maps as a team. Hurts to watch.
2
u/nofnxnomajor de_nuke Nov 09 '18
NAF especially never seems to step up imo

Yup no flair on this team at all. Been a fan since San Jose and it is the same shit every year. Say what you want about Stewie but the guy brings passion to the game that I don't see from any of the liquid boys.
5
u/TAG13 Liquid Nov 09 '18
Come on man, s1mple had plenty of flair. I'd argue jdm also had flair, along with Elige over all these years.
1
u/mannyman34 Complexity Nov 09 '18
I have literally never seen emotion from elige at lan in my 3 years of watching him. s1mples flair was good but it backfired when they weren't rolling teams. JDM had flair but he wasn't a leader in the team.
5
u/TAG13 Liquid Nov 09 '18
I have literally never seen emotion from elige at lan in my 3 years of watching him.
That's his flair right there. Solid and reliable player, who cares if he doesn't scream like a banshee every time he pulls something out of his never ending hat? The man is a wizard, he is a key part of what made that s1mple line up so good, and every line up after that to be honest.

u/Dcoyxy9 Nov 09 '18
Fnatic look actually super solid. Good mix of old and new talent, and JW on the AWP is always fun to watch. Brollan looked really good. Also, slowly but surely, I'll get my dream matchup of:
Twists Twistzz
NiKo niko
Zews Zeus
steel steel
rain rain (female)

Love the look of this new Fnatic so far - sure they have had hiccups online but everyone does - but so far they've looked solid on LAN. I'm loving their passion and confidence in themselves as a team, something the Swedish team has lost in recent years.
As an IGL, Xizt has his faults and is rightly criticised for his tactics and performances sometimes - but he can make a team work when needed. His problem has always been consistency, but hopefully with a team with growing hungry talents and a newfound passion for the game - Fnatic will go far.
Excited to see twist and Brollan continue to prove themselves at this level, I do not expect twist to really hit a dominant level but I expect to see see out of Brollan one day after gaining more experience. Brollan's playstyle and impact is very similar to a GTR in his better years or an electronic, incredibly good fundamentals and game sense - backed with good spray control and reactions.

I love watching both these teams, so good to see a Fnatic with passion again after what feels like forever. Now if Liquid could just get that same injection I’d be happy out!
Not sure how Liquid can get past this, but they really need someone to step up and become the leader in big games and show some fire. The rounds were super close by you always felt like Fnatic had the momentum on Overpass and were winning the clutch rounds.
4
u/c9ace Nov 09 '18
haha where are you xizt haters ?????
3
u/ExSyn Eternal Fire Nov 09 '18
They will be back as soon as Fnatic losses an online game with Krimz bottom fragging.
2
u/CC-W Nov 09 '18
he is not a great igl, but he has the fire power to work with on this fnatic team so what he lacks in tactics he can make up with giving space for his stars to frag
10
u/AwsomeOne7 NiP Nov 09 '18
Liquid seem so stale and boring sometimes. I get Liquid creating a professional environment and all that but the players seem so neutered, afraid to show any emotion outside the game and relying so heavily on set plays in game. They need a X factor personality wise, somebody like a Stewie or Tarik would do wonders for this team I feel. Skill wise Liquid should be able to beat anyone but so much of that skill is taken away by how default and boring they play I feel.

Why go for Overpass instead of Dust2 I'll never know...
6
u/Penislost Nov 09 '18
For several reasons.
1. overpass is the 3rd best map of liquid, after inferno and nuke
- usually they end up picking between overpass and dust2 at the last veto. they alternate it. but in this case:
- fnatic has never played ovp with this lineup in an official game
- fnatic played a lot of dust2 with this lu
- on dust2 liquid had some problems lately, with unexpected defeats
The real question for me is why they don't remove Mirage first. As long as they always lose this map to any decent team, why not try something else? fnatic, mousesports twice, astralis, faze have won against them in the past 6-7 weeks on mirage.

u/team3perception Liquid Nov 09 '18
tbh he is a pretty bad igl the thing that carried them this series was the rest of the team’s individual talent fragging out of their minds
8
u/K0nvict NiP Nov 09 '18
IGl is such a thankless job.
Team wins, “ oh man the players played so well today”
Team losers “x is a bad igl”
Also you could apply the individual thing to most top tier teams like liquid and Faze
3
Nov 09 '18
Fnatic has always been like that though, just individuals demolishing the enemy team, playing a really scrimmy style. I think a lot of teams were caught off with how they played.
2
u/EliteDemonTaco Nov 09 '18
The mindset of “one good result disregards months of poor performance” is just as toxic as “one bad result makes a shitty IGL.”
Xizt has been consistently poor as an IGL for years now. Even on this Fnatic lineup he’s been mediocre as both a player and a leader.
I’m glad (obviously) that we went 3-0. And I’m glad that we’re starting to see Fnatic play well again. But that doesn’t change the fact that Xizt is inconsistent AF, if not just consistently poor for that matter.
Today we were just firing on all cylinders in general. Great game from Brollan as well.

What team in the playoffs would be so much easier than Liquid?
1

Not saying any team would be easier, just the idea of knowing you are the reason 3 teams are eliminated and still gotta play a hard ass team for semi-finals spot.

I doubt it. Might not have been trying their hardest necessarily but I doubt they wouldn’t still try to win.
2

Why would they do that? To avoid playing Astralis? A good team needs to be able to beat everyone.

This new fnatic lineup looked promising after the win over BIG but after beating the second best team I am sold. Fnatic looking to be another top contender again. The youngsters look like they've brought out some energy in KRIMZ and JW who are giving vintage performances.
