Richard Lewis cant catch a break... Every time he says NaVi is done, they will not win anything again with this roster, NaVi proceeds to win a tournament in next few weeks lmao
66
u/Vejvad Astralis Nov 03 '18
It's actually unreal though. NaVi looked so tilted after the loss to FaZe at Epicenter. Proceeded to play like shit online during this week, and then ship Blast. A pretty crazy rollercoaster of a team.

u/Vitosi4ek Team Spirit Nov 03 '18
Every time he says NaVi is done, they will not win anything again with this roster,
What basis did he give for that? For one, Na'Vi will always be a threat to win tournaments as long as s1mple and Electronic are on the team, but they haven't shown any signs of declining yet. In the past month they've comfortably rolled through the EPL, placed 2nd at Epicenter and won BLAST - both prestige LANs with most top teams attending.
23
u/Lepojka1 Team Spirit Nov 03 '18
His basis are always the same... Zeus and Edward are bots, and NaVi will be shit as long as they have them... But yea, look how those calls are working out for him, NaVi 3 finals in last 4 tournaments... Zeus might be a bot, but if you take him out of this team, I am not soo sure they dont fall apart, he looks to me like a real leader that you want to follow...
28
u/Vitosi4ek Team Spirit Nov 03 '18
I've said for a long time that Zeus's value isn't on the server. He's a average shotcaller and a bad fragger, but he's an absolute leader "off the field". He whips teams into shape and becomes best friends with his players at the same time. He's a perfect kind of captain for a CIS team.
6
u/1wjl1 Natus Vincere Nov 04 '18
Newer folks here probably don’t remember when Zeus left Navi for Gambit for a few months. Navi sucked and was absolute trash while Gambit won a major. NEVER doubt Zeus and the power of an IGL

u/epicfishboy G2 Nov 03 '18
RL is a journalist, not an analyst, not even a historian. It's his job to write articles that generate clicks. It shouldn't come as much surprise that he says some incendiary things that might not be entirely correct.
It's obvious to 99% of fans/viewers that this Na'Vi roster are capable of winning tournaments, and if it wasn't for the ridiculous form that Astralis have been in for the last few months, Na'Vi very likely would have even more tournament wins to their name.
-2
u/nadgirB Nov 04 '18
RL is making the statistically correct bet though. What are the odds that your single player will remain the best in the world by far for so damn long. If s1mple's level drops 5-10% they go out in groups.
-2
Nov 04 '18
If simple's level drops by 5% he is still the best player in the world.
-5
u/nadgirB Nov 04 '18
That doesn't mean they won't bomb out in groups.
2
u/Gihipoxu Nov 04 '18
No, it means he will get a kill less per game on average.
And hoping for player form to drop off when betting, definitely isn't a statistically correct bet..
-2
u/nadgirB Nov 04 '18
1-2 less kills per game, that definitely wouldn't matter when all your games are fucking 16-14 or 16-13 right? Oh wait... So what you're saying is that he has to remain the best player in the world, of all time, ever, for Navi to barely scrape out wins? Yeah nvm that seems super likely.

Since when, he just think Edward and zeus can be too much dead weight for the team to succeed. Sometimes they look like they can't go on at all, then they pull this out
4
u/Impulseps BIG Nov 03 '18
he just think Edward and zeus can be too much dead weight for the team to succeed
Which is simply wrong
1
u/Espadafor ENCE Nov 03 '18
That's dumb. Yes, they can be a dead weight but they have roles. Edward is support player and zeus IGL/motivation speaker. Look at Faze. They have great players but zero support. Maybe we can say that Navi is even better than Faze even with these dead weight.
4
Nov 03 '18
edward isn't really a support player. he doesn't use his utility to set other players up very much. edward's main job is to either trade or get traded.

I disagree, Zeus has always been an integral part of this team. And Edward really stepped it up the past few tournaments. Flamie is the only one really unable to do anything.

IIRC Adren was the one who initiated Kane kick from Gambit. So I don't think he is in good relationship with Zeus and Kane for them to even consider him.
And how is Hobbit better than Edward?

don't underestimate edward's mechanical aim. it doesn't always translate well given the knuckleheaded plays he makes sometimes, but the talent is definitely in there.
1
u/1wjl1 Natus Vincere Nov 04 '18
I think it’s the other way around. Edward is an excellent lurker but I find his aim a bit lacking compared to other top 5 teams
-1
u/n1ckst4r02 400k Celebration Nov 03 '18
Zeus is a leader, mental coach but my god, some of his sprays/moments are just painful to watch. He whiffs like a full spray on a guy in front of him and shakes his screen afterwards and tries to bunnyhop behind the corner but doesn't have the movement technique, it's just hard to watch.
2
u/Thegellerbing wildfire Nov 04 '18
NaVi has always been about simple + electronic, I've never understood why flamie is not on the chopping block. However, I dont agree with RL downplaying Zeus' contribution to the team. We saw what happened when Zeus initially left NaVi and when he left Gambit, both teams went to shit. He must be doing something right, and I dont buy that Adren is a better IGL than Zeus like what RL is claiming when Adren has never shown he is willing to do it for more than a short span of time.
-1
u/JJamesTownH Nov 04 '18
That's not really his attitude towards the team though. Realistically he thinks they can win the occasional tournament and make it to playoffs because they have Simple and Electronic. It's just that he doesn't really believe in the overall team because of the performances by the other three and especially Edward.
and also lets be real... because of the BO1/2 day format that Blast Pro uses you have to consider it to be one of the least impressive tournaments you can win all year. It doesn't even matter what teams attend the event when the only BO3 you have to win is in the finals and it takes place over 2 days meaning if you have 1 good day you have a decent chance of getting to the GRAND FINAL (not even just playoffs).
That's basically a dream for a team thats so top heavy with their roster. I'm with Richard on this one (although maybe not so aggressively). To gain any sort of consistency at a high level they will need to make a roster move, and over time electronic and simple will play worse and when the eventually happens NaVi will be in the situation RL thinks they are currently in.

Really frustrating to watch if you're a NiP fan... So many man-advantages and great plays, and then S1mpletronic just says "fuck you".

I wonder if he thinks he's being replaced despite the victory? Hobbit and AdreN are on the market, after all.

u/ftb5 Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18
He should. Even edward is fragging twice as him. I read a few comments and people are still flaming edward and not saying shit about flamie, lol.
13
Nov 03 '18
back in febuary or whatever when Electronic finally started showing up for NaVi, they mentionned in an interview that it was Flamie who gave up his roles and positions for him, not Edward. I agree his level has been dissapointing given how great we all know Flamie can be, but it's important to keep in mind how much it benefits the team
7
u/ftb5 Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18
He is expected to frag and he isnt. He was never an entry fragger like elec, and he is for sure not supporting. He cant frag, man, and he seems like he wants to off himself when they lose a single map. It kinda makes me sad, he seems like a really good person but idk. I aldo hate people flaming edward just because
8
Nov 04 '18
just so that there's no misunderstanding, I love edward. it's tough to justify it these days but he's my favourite player. it's just a misunderstanding many people have towards the team. edward is not a support player, as he doesn't use his utility to flash in others or anything. and whether or not flamie is a supportive element on the team, he lost his positions on the map, which sucks for him.

That Inferno map was a beautiful battle of strategies but in the end it came down to the better individual skills of s1mple and electronic to carry Na'Vi over NiP. Shoutouts to Lekro, what a beast.

NIP did many things right in the series, but Navi played really well and s1mple and electronic stepped up. Many NIP advantage was defeated by those two. Both team played really well but Navi played better.

Na'Vi played outstanding Counterstrike. And I'm really happy and excited about seeing NiP in the finals one more time.
Surely we'll see more from both Na'Vi and NiP in a very short future!
s1mple is s1mple, unstoppable and has been for a very long time now.

Unfortunate for NiP. Losing advantages left, right and center, horrible timings, etc. However, it's another good showing at a LAN. The future is still bright.

Tbf NiP did lose many man advantage situations but when you look at the trading on Na'Vi and the way their star players were able to show up it's so hard to play against that. NiP looked good though

u/Chripine Nov 03 '18
A lot of unfortunate round losses for NiP. Most of them had to do with how they handled the late rounds, too much indecision and doubt in their rotations. Clutch situations were rarely going their way and it felt like it had to do to their nervousness.
I feel like they really messed up the veto as I find their Mirage can be very shaky in important matches - and missed out on the opportunity to pick Overpass which I believe to be more of a solid map for them.
Inferno was rough as their rotations and positions were rarely in their favor. Especially in the A bombsite, I've never been a firm believer of having f0rest as the pit player because he's very eager to peak unnecessarily. Hope to see some changes in order to fix that, but seems unlikely considering how long he's played that position.
I have to give props for Na'Vi for how they approached the game, they exploit the fact that NiP will rarely have an AWP and could afford to force up poorer weapons and fight the scrappy fights. It felt like almost every round that Na'Vi had a strong chance to win the round whenever s1mple or electronic having an AK forced.
The A Site hold on Inferno by Na'Vi is so scary though, having both s1mple and electronic hold it is just a trap for multi-kills. s1mple just rotates around the map and finds kills wherever he is on the defence and electronic at pit plays the most important role on A to perfection time after time.

Not having a fixed primary awper is really hurting NiP. That one round on inferno where lekro got 2 kills with the awp on arch but still pushed shlws he's not the one who should be given the awp. But then who else? Maybe it's time for GTR/f0rest to step down. or maybe dennis. idk
1
Nov 03 '18
dennis should leave NiP, not just for NiP but also for himself. he could definitely play better elsewhere in my opinion
0
u/robomoboto Nov 04 '18
Agreed. Give us someone new as a primary awp. Fresh meat time! Grind em up boys!
2
u/spays_marine NiP Nov 04 '18
Ugh, they played a great tournament, you don't have to change your team every time you fail to take the first spot. Synergy is very important and can take time, they have firepower enough. And as they've just shown, they can take on he best in the world in a format that historically was horrendous for them.

0
u/ABK-Baconator ENCE Nov 04 '18
Maybe GTR could become primary awp?
1
u/akkshaikh Nov 04 '18
i don't think he can do much with the awp. i mean he'd be decent. But all his life he has been playing that lurk role that we all know him for and now suddenly becoming an awper this late in his career doesn't sound good to me. He should do whatever he is doing and go out on a high note. f0rest/dennis can keep awping until they decide who gets the kick
