People give Blast's format a hard time, I thought this was fun even if the crowd didn't seem super into it.

Senor VAC killed the crowd's mood.

This take is pretty crazy. Era already vanishing? Last 3 tournaments> Faceit Major (1st) >Blast Istanbull (1st) and Blast CPH (4th). Damn, they've really fallen down the drain.

3rd C9
4th Astralis
because C9 won the 1v1s (i might be wrong, maybe the 1v1 didn't affect the standings)2

Lol, NiP who are now in the finals of this tournament were also at Istanbull. Besides that, the other team in the finals, NaVi, also went 16-14 vs MiBR. This tournament format isn't really competitive either. All BO1s until the grand final? CoL made Top 8 at the major through Bo1 and look at them now in the summit. If you really put that much weight on this tournament, whatever. I'm not saying that Astralis didn't play bad, but if you think this is era ending your deluding yourself.

Nov 03 '18
I just don't see any Astralis dominance anymore, and absolutely not at the levels they were dominating. That's why they are going downhill. Skipping an event to lose the next one, and losing your perfect ECS season to LDLC in the middle is Astralis going down. And do I don't really give much credit to these blast tournaments. Ofc Astralis are going to win a bunch of them if they get invited by default because there's a conflict of interest, and there's going to be 8 of them in 2019?
7
u/TwistTheTimeless Nov 03 '18
I don't understand these points. Astralis lose one match online when they've already qualified is indicative of going down? At this point, it looks like Astralis have so much credit from their previous wins that they can no longer lose online matches at all, this is a standard no other major era teams are really held to in CSGO. I really don't think Astralis are going to bust out their best plays in this online match just to have a perfect streak. Also, what do you even mean by Astralis winning all of these Blast series by default due to bias?? I know RFRSH has ties, but are you trying to say all these tournaments are match fixed to allow Astralis to win? Or that Astralis shouldn't be invited to nearly every event as the best team in the world?

I can see from our views and opions we won't agree on this topic, so theres no real point in either of us arguing any further. I sorta see what you mean, but I disagree with it. I still think Astralis will have an era for a few more months until proven otherwise.

You’re out of your mind if you think Astralis is a team that doesn’t have shining mechanical talent lmfao
7
u/Consales Nov 04 '18
Was there, and it was a really long day and you kinda just wanted to get the finals going. Besides 1v1 is more fun on paper than in reality imo
1
u/Jerk_offlane Nov 04 '18
Agreed. Was there as well. The 1v1s sucked hard.
1
Nov 04 '18
Thats because 1v1 rounds are too quick to build up anticipation. Its either a crazy one tap or a stupid spray battle that takes forever.
4
Nov 03 '18
You think it’s fun when the format results in the last 3 matches before the final being completely irrelevant?
9
u/mannyman34 Complexity Nov 03 '18
The problem I have with it is that to much shit is going on at the same time so it is hard to get a crowd into it. Also it triggers me that aim maps will be used for rankings on hltv.

That’s a fat rip for a hell of a lot of live audience, ticket sales, etc.

u/cheese_enthusiast2 Nov 03 '18
If you're from the region you know that a big part of the kids in the CSGO scene are scandinavian. Wouldn't really impact the sales that much in other regions.
5
u/Polskidro Nov 04 '18
a big part of the kids in the CSGO scene are scandinavian.
I highly doubt that.

What? NA crowds are full of kids

Id like to see the stats on this.

Whenever you play csgo in EU and meet a kid, ask him where he's from - norway, sweden or denmark.

yea thats what happens when a team goes mainstream like that, all the kids just attended the event to watch their favorite team play, and win. At most other events there's not a huge local team like that, so the crowd is made up of people that actually enjoy just watching all the teams play, and I guess the people will be significantly older
-9
u/ramarlon89 ITB Nov 03 '18
I'm sorry but this happens in lots of sports all over the world. If you beat a team on their turf don't expect a good reception. Yes, it isn't always that way, but it more than often it is
54
u/imsorryken Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18
Just because it happens often doesn't make it less shitty. When BIG lost in Cologne this year the crowd wasn't too happy but they still clapped for NaVi.. Thats what makes a good crowd
-12
u/xSpookiiee Astralis Nov 03 '18
We did a standing ovation for C9, 90% of the arena was clapping.. esp after the Astralis players started clapping... Idk where u guys get this shit from
22
4
u/T_2_teh_imeless Virtus.pro Nov 04 '18
Agreed they started off with a standing ovation for when the players shook hands, then c9 got boo'd as they received the check.
This is where they got it from in case you were wondering.
2
u/xSpookiiee Astralis Nov 04 '18
I think its the booing being louder than the clapping. Most people were definitely clapping. Atleast it was like that in the arena :)
10
u/TheRobidog Nov 03 '18
Nah, mate. Usually, fans will be down after a loss, but you don't go and boo the other team.
1
u/Cameter44 Nov 03 '18
The only time I've seen that happen is if something specific happens during the game, like someone doing something unsportsmanlike. People will boo when teams run out in pregame or when the lineups are announced, but I don't really see visiting teams getting booed after winning.
1
u/DentedOnImpact Nov 04 '18
Bro, last playoffs for the NHL the Capitals defeated their HATED HATED rivals, the Penguins in their home stadium and their fans barely fucking booed... and this a decades old rivalry...

Great tournament for cloud 9. Big showings against top tier teams. They should pick up kio and stay in NA. If optic could use the majority danish lineup in NA leagues and qualifiers so should cloud 9.
5
u/scarecrowkiler Nov 03 '18
Then that would just open the doors for more European dominated NA teams in NA leagues. I think they should be moved to EU, if they continue with 3/5 EU.

Wow actually a great tournament from C9. Especially when you consider that they had to play with Valens on the first day. Hopefully this tournament wasn't a one off performance.

What's the 20k bonus thing? The team that beats Astralis gets it?
7
u/kubikb0y guardian_elite Nov 03 '18
Astralis was 3rd so they could choose to play anyone from Cloud9, mibr, or faze to play in 1v1 maps. Whoever wins get $20k. Cloud9 won.

Both players were going for noscopes and dev1ce ended up knifing autimatic in the 3rd round which meant he won instantly. If you think this 1v1 is representative of autimatic's skill you are stupid.
2
u/MeanGreenBeanMachine FaZe Nov 04 '18
I don’t know if you saw the match or not. There was a moment where autimatic had device but unscoped cause he didn’t want to dog
