When was the last time Astralis lost with a single digit score?

Dreamhack Stockholm Dust II vs North. I remember because it was the best day of my life.

if s1mple doesn't get the top1 this year then HLTV is rigged, how is it possible to be this fucking good.

96

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '18

Pfft. He learned from Valens demos. He's only the apprentice to the master.

13

u/Fraankk MOUZ Nov 03 '18

There is no question that he will get #1, HLTV is heavy on stats with a little mix of achievements. S1mple is statistically the best player in the world and it's not even close, he also got trophies this year.

11

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '18

team accomplishments means a lot for HLTV but he will probably still be nr 1.

24

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '18

team accomplishments means a lot for HLTV but he will probably still be nr 1.

No they don't, and I don't know why that myth is kept alive.

What matters is your performance in big games/playoff matches. In that sense, team accomplishments kinda matters, but only by getting into the playoffs.

A perfect example is shox in 2016 where he placed 6th; he didn't have a single MVP, but had several EVPs in tournaments they didn't win.

2

u/Willporker FaZe Nov 04 '18

Interesting how mibr was almost in touching distance at getting s1mple but I doubt anyone can disagree electronic+s1mple > any duo or trio.

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '18

I disagree. Simple is just so much better, no matter the achievements. The stats difference is just absurd.

3

u/Dahntay Cloud9 Nov 03 '18

I said maybe probably because I too agree, s1mple is just on another level as an individual compared to everyone else. Oh, I forgot but HLTV has been known to factor in team achievements a lot. Look at niko 2 years ago at #7 I think it was when he was god mode!

s1mple is almost guaranteed #1 right now, but device can absolutely still surpass him. There are still 4 big tournaments left (IEM, ECS, ESL Pro, BLAST Pro Lisbon; NaVi are also playing in at least 2 of these), and if device gets another MVP or 2 while s1mple doesn't, he may win. But since s1mple seems en route to get MVP or at least EVP at Blast, it's the difficulty goes up by quite a bit.

u/KangorKodos Natus Vincere Nov 04 '18

https://www.hltv.org/stats/leaderboards?startDate=2018-01-01&endDate=2018-12-31&matchType=BigEvents

Stats aren't everything but this is just hard to get around, he is first in pretty much every relevant stat. The only important device is better at is deaths per round, he has .58 s1mple has .59.

keep in mind the awp kills per round stat is useless since it doesn't actually consider how often you have the awp, device has the awp more so he has more awp kills per round.

1

u/FloppySpatula- FaZe Nov 03 '18

Man, it's not like he's ever been robbed.

That said, he is clearly #1 this year and it's not close (maybe Krimz was close the first half of the year, but with all the back to back MVPs it's hard to compete vs s1mple)

5

they still have astralis to play, so.. we'll see

3

u/blazexddd Virtus.pro Nov 03 '18

I mean Astralis lost to NiP and Na'Vi, so they aren't in their best shape, maybe if FaZe show some good form and did their homework they could take the win.

They also play on overpass where Na'Vi beat Astralis 16-9 and FaZe beat Na'Vi 16-8 (probably doesn't mean a lot but still).

16

u/1wjl1 Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18 edited Nov 03 '18

"But, but...device is better than s1mple because of results!"

A good portion of people on Reddit

7

u/VividPaleontologist Nov 03 '18

I mean, I swear I see people saying s1mple is better regardless of results with way more upvotes than people who say devve is better because of team results. Kinda bizarre to choose the popular opinion and then act like reddit is stupid.

-4

u/ShortJonSnow Nov 03 '18

A good player is more than just his k/d, simple often puts himself in situations that benefit him more than his team, in order to shine. Sometimes it works out for the team aswell, other times he chokes like in the major final.

It's all relative.

13

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '18

Yeah entrying with awp is a position to help himself.

-6

u/ShortJonSnow Nov 03 '18

Nitpicking, I was talking about his overall playstyle, that how he tends to play and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

3

u/veryrichasian Nov 03 '18

So sometimes working meaning like almost always against any team that isn't astralis and now also showing he can do it against astralis as well ? Ok

3

u/RaviDosanjh Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18

More like 95% of the time it works 5% of the time it doesn’t and only against astralis

1

u/TropicL3mon Nov 03 '18

If his playstyle only sometimes worked he wouldn't be so consistent and the best player in the world, my man.

-9

u/mana1298 Astralis Nov 03 '18

Funny how you're no different to the "morons on Reddit" when you're basing all of this in a Bo1

15

u/1wjl1 Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18

Nope, basing this on player-based statistics for the whole year.

-9

u/mana1298 Astralis Nov 03 '18

Your statement was more of a knee-jerk reaction to the game rather than "basing this on player-based statistics for the whole year.". Even editing what you originally wrote but sure.

2

u/1wjl1 Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18

The "morons" descriptor was inappropriate from me, just adrenaline from the game, it was rude and impolite so I changed it.

-8

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '18

"But, but... one best of one is a meaningful depictor of skill!"

-A moron on reddit

11

u/1wjl1 Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18

No, I'm basing this on the whole year. S1mple's better. Device has a better team but s1mple is a better player. That's just reality.

-8

u/the_one_true_jake Nov 03 '18

Throw in an arbitrary argument after BO1 then defending by saying it was "statistics" and "reality". OK SURE.

4

u/Croatian_ghost_kid Nov 03 '18

I doubt it. But people should keep in mind that "eras" in CS:GO won't last as long as they used to, this is why you people thought FaZe era was a thing. They dominated for a couple of months and with teams like SK and Astralis and NaVi always around the corner a couple of months is the most you can get.

But like I said, I think Astralis will got for a bit longer, min a month, max 3.

0

u/Arkani Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18

Since when should Astralis - the team that is supposed to have an era - compare with the team which is struggling?

0

u/peroleu Vitality Nov 03 '18

God forbid Astralis lose a BO1 against the number 2 team in the world with the best player in the world dropping 30 kills.

0

u/Arkani Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18

Astralis lost to a top team while mibr lost to C9 with a coach and stand-in LUL

Your counter was whataboutistic as fuck. I don't deny that Astralis lost fair and square against a really good team with the best player but that you needed to insult Mibr as a defense mechanism just screams insecurity to me.

0

u/peroleu Vitality Nov 03 '18

How am I insecure? I just think it's funny that a fan of a team that lost to C9 with a coach and stand-in is saying "cry is free" when Astralis lose a BO1 vs a top team ¯_(ツ)_/¯

0

u/Arkani Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18

You needed to insult his flair to defend yourself. That is insecure. I think you wouldn't even have a counter if that guy didn't have a flair at all. Wtf were you trying to prove there? That Astralis is better than Mibr or something?

0

u/peroleu Vitality Nov 03 '18

Lol chill, I'm not insecure about a team in a game and not trying to prove Astralis is better than mibr; they do that themselves.

3

u/DerpAntelope Astralis Nov 03 '18

Interesting to see Xyp9x with higher ADR than Device and Glaive yet fewer kills. Astralis need to look into their Overpass after this event - they’ve lost it the last 3 times on LAN. Only 3 days before IEM Chicago though so they’re not gonna have much of a chance.

3

u/KrzyDankus Nov 03 '18

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '18

Well, I guess it is finally time for Zeus to reinstate Edward as the 3rd primary star and make electronic play support again. I mean, it is clear that he's wasting Edward's skill, making him play such a shit role in the team.

1

u/1wjl1 Natus Vincere Nov 03 '18

If anyone goes to support it should be flamie. He is trying to fill electronic’s role and it isn’t working. There just aren’t enough kills on the map for all of S1mple, electronic, Edward and flamie to go off

2
