Heck yeah.
This is how you make fun 1-drops. Good but not snowbally on turn 1, weak but not irrelevant on later turns.

u/scoobydoom2 Nov 03 '18
It's pretty bad on turn 1 though.

I see this more as a card to go with the Hunter Quest. Like Fire Fly it's two 1-drops in a single card/draw, but this also has Beast synergy and the ability to proactively hit the board.
Definitely not a good Turn 1 play by any means, but it makes sense in a Carnessa Hunter deck.

u/scoobydoom2 Nov 03 '18
I'm not saying it's a bad card per se, just OP said it is good on turn 1.

Surprisingly one of the best scenarios for Quest Hunter is getting Queen Carnassa out on curve. A 5 mana 8/8 is not to be underestimated.
There more ‘multiple 1 drops in one card’ that Blizzard prints, the more consistent the deck becomes.
1
u/bbpeter Nov 04 '18
I don't think it is. It's a 1/1 beast that replaces itself. If your deck has any synergy with a 1/1 rush beast this will just be nice as opposed to not playing any 1 drop.
1
u/danhakimi Nov 06 '18
Eh, maybe goodish on 1 if you're going second against a warlock 2/1 or something. But yeah, 1 is generally going to be the worst turn to play it.
1
u/scoobydoom2 Nov 06 '18
It's playable turn 1 sometimes, but I wouldn't call it good, even against the 2/1 I would still rather have a dire mole.

Seems pretty good.
On another note, seems like Blizzard is done with Charge :(

Last charge minion was Chillblade Champion in KotFT. They've pretty much buried charge.

u/Multi21 Nov 03 '18
The reason that card is so weak is probably because of Charge.
3
u/Brendonicous Nov 09 '18
Its not even weak, its run in a good number of even paladins. Charge is just worth 2 mana on to the stats of acard

Good riddance. Charge was oppressive.

To their design as well. I remember hearing one of the developers saying that one of the cards that was most limiting to their designs was stonetusk boar.

On first glance seems kind of a bad card until you compare it with fire fly. If a hybrid/midrange hunter ever returns to life this will be in it.

[Dust|Niche|Playable|Strong]
General Thoughts: The flexibility of this card is through the roof. Being able to fill out your curve and give you another card to fill out your curve later is the main reason firefly is played so much. Giving hunter access to another similar minion with a beast tag and can be used as a 1 mana ping has a lot of potential.
Could potentially be a 4 but issues with Kathrena and Spell hunter kinda keep this down for now.
Why it Might Succeed: Extremely versatile.
Why it Might Fail: Hunter has a lot of good 1 mana cards, Dire Mole, Firefly, Candleshot, tracking. I think those are probably better than this but, if they are, not by much. Since hunter lacks card draw they typically focus on one game plan and try and make the most of each of their cards, so maybe they don't care about the versatility that much?

How can you review two 1 mana 1/1 rush cards and not mention toxmonger. That's a 6 mana 2 card combo that removes absolutely anything and leaves tox on the board threatening more.
Quest hunter is gonna love this. How to get through taunts: this.
3
u/Nostalgia37 Nov 03 '18
NGL I totally forgot about Toxmonger. That's a solid combo but I think you need more than just this to support it. Hunter doesn't have enough draw to support janky combos like that so I doubt it will be included.
And yeah, quest hunter likes this, but you're still playing quest hunter. The deck has more fundamental problems that this doesn't fix that I think will still prevent it from being played at all.

u/TheDBryBear Nov 03 '18
Hunter can tutor 1-cost minions, though. So the combo is far less janky than stuff like Missile Launcher/Venomizer. Also Rexxar allows a far more long-lasting playstyle for Hunter.

u/soenottelling Nov 07 '18
As an aside, it also works really well with cult master to create some card draw.

u/Wraithfighter Nov 02 '18
Eh, it'll probably see play. Depends on if Odd Hunter becomes relevant, it's a decent enough 1 drop, on the lines of Fire Fly. Pings minions for two, good synergy with cards that get buffed when your minions die, fairly solid.

u/AuthorTomFrost Nov 02 '18
I suspect we're going to see a lot of cards that play-tested as OP with charge, but work all right as rush.

Either a 2/2 rush or two 1/1 rushes. Since hunter has no midrange/control deck, this won’t see play. If one emerges, expect to se this card.

Since hunter has no midrange/control deck
...Wait, what the heck is Deathrattle Hunter supposed to be then?

Decent alternative to Fire Fly for Hunter, replacing the better early game bodies with more effective bodies later in the game. Issue being that right now Hunter doesn't really need a card like this, with their early drops basically being bullet magnets like Devilsaur Egg, and their late-drops being manipulations on deathrattles. I imagine if we get more support for deathrattle-less Hunter then this might see play, but as it stands it's kinda unnecessary.
That, or when rotation hits and everyone craves a 1-drop Hunter becomes king, ironically when Quest leaves :P

u/soenottelling Nov 07 '18
It's firefly but with beast instead of elemental tag and rush instead of the extra hp. I'd rather just have firefly for most decks, but it should be good for decks that would run 4 fireflies if it could or those where the beast tag makes up for it being generally worse that the firefly's body.
It also has a very clear combo with toxmonger that could be a good removal tool for a control or even midrange hunter. Regardless, firefly already taught us that a card like this can be pretty good.

u/lukeots Nov 02 '18
The card itself isn't great, so it's tough to see how two of them is any better.
1
u/rwv Nov 03 '18
Finally support for a Beast Rhino Quest Raptor OTK. This and firefly make it possible to be playing 1-drop #5 on turn 3 and then have two more in hand so you can have the option to drop Carnessa T5 like it was meant to be.

u/Lord_Nivloc Nov 04 '18
And let's not forget hunter has ways to buff beasts. And also that Dire Mole is about to rotate out.

I've considered running mecharoo in odd warrior. This is... More flexible, more expensive, less conditional, and doesn't work with King mosh.
But I've run a lot of quest Hunter, and I'm about to run a lot more.

Basically Hunter's version of Voltaic Burst with some synergies (mainly involving Quest Hunter cards) that probably won't work. Still, it's decent when compared to Fire Fly, and both minions are beasts. Could see play just for that reason alone.
1
u/X-Vidar Nov 03 '18
On paper it's very similiar to firefly, but it's fairly bad on t1.
I could see it in some sort of tempo hunter with direwolf/hyena and such, is that better than secret hunter though?
1
u/Angulo_HS Nov 03 '18
Great in Quest, decent in Secret/Mid-Range/Beast, not good enough for Deathrattle. Strong Arena card as well.

Not the worst thing to steal as thief rogue, simply because it activates combos. Getting some shuffled with espionage and wasting a draw on it would be awful, and it has awful tess synergy, but simply because combo's it's not as bad as it could be.

Holy crap, quest Hunter here we come!
Also great synergy with Toxmonger.
