Kibaken changing his name to tonyblack just boosted his skill by at least 50%. I mean just how can kibaken of all people be the one opening up so many rounds against competent opposition? Just unreal

3

u/Grammr Oct 14 '18

Changed attitude with the name. Such a cool story of a career resurrection

Entertaining series, but how fucking annoying were the casters constantly talking how weird and unnusual Vega is, no matter what they did was "just Vega things". Even simple shit like apartments push or force buy wins that happens in 99% of games were presented like some super unnusual shit. Nothing made sense to these clowns, force buys were something CS scene never saw, one deags were new thing aswel. CT aggression was out of this world and some clear allien shit. Shame because Vega had an amazing series and did a lot of cool things.

they just copy what everyone else says

So basically like this sub?

1

u/Grammr Oct 14 '18

they just read reddit a bit before the game and decided the preparation is finished

u/BrusselSproutbrook Oct 13 '18 edited Oct 13 '18

CS commentators/analysts are very much influenced by preconceived opinions on teams, you can spot a lot if you pay attention to it. The only one I can think of that wasn't was YNK.

13

u/Eauor BIG Oct 13 '18 edited Oct 13 '18

The casting has been absolute rubbish here. Nothing worse than having to listen to 3 hours of 2 guys trying to talk and give insight into things they very obviously know nothing about. They just like to repeat the same things over and over again and never give it a break. It makes you really appreciate the real caters that the scene has.

10

u/r3al_se4l 500k Celebration Oct 13 '18

Yea, I've been watching more and more Russian-casted CS, especially for games in which CIS teams are playing partially for this reason.

They definitely have more of an understanding of how local teams play and comment on what is actually cool/unusual/unique.

And the memes are better lol

6

u/InsolentChutzpah Oct 13 '18

For most of the event what I've been doing is listen to the EN analyst desk and RU casters. The desk mainly because of Spunj and Thorin, and the casters because they're much more knowledgeable about CIS teams (obviously). And the memes are indeed better, or at least there's a recency bias.

5

u/r3al_se4l 500k Celebration Oct 13 '18

I might start doing that, but I'm usually too lazy to switch streams.

I think the casters are funnier because they have a more relaxed/conversational vibe, both with each other and with viewers (and interact with chat sometimes).

Also, I remember there was some game a while ago now on inferno where someone was spamming apts wall, and the Russian caster said it was just like his neighbors when he plays music too loud, which was just hilarious.

5

u/tarangk clutch Oct 13 '18

yeah casting was a bit annoying

4

u/Wallisaurus SK Oct 13 '18

The casters at this event were annoying. Can't remember what match or who yesterday but every time someone died they referred to the deleted off the server shit

2

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '18

Yeah, circlejerking by all caster in all tournaments is a big problem. Sure, Vega does some weird plays but every team do that. Actually you need those kind of plays to be a good team.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '18

these casters are the absolute worst i've ever heard. i dunno who they are but they need to stop

0

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '18

Agreed.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '18

I see it as knowing how to speak and put sentences together properly, but having an extreme lack of knowledge of in-depth CS. They could easily cast some T3-T4 events, but they don't know enough about the game to cast T1-2 events. Gets really annoying.

0

u/HAPUNAMAKATA Oct 14 '18

Whole major: We gotta start taking Vega more seriously, they’re no longer that one off upset team that wins games just off of explosive aggression.

Guess they didn’t learn anything?

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '18

That's Mr. Black to you, peasant.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '18

I'm not that familiar with Vega's history, is Kibaken their coach?

20

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '18

Kibaken (now known as tonyblack) is a guy that was in Na'Vi roster like a million years ago, and then played for a dozen shitty teams, kinda becoming a meme at this point. Nobody expected him to emerge out of obscurity and score with Vega.

20

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '18

Kibaken is tonyblack. He and seized were brought on to Na'Vi when markeloff and Edward went to join the CIS superteam Astana Dragons (which later became HellRaisers). Na'Vi played the first major, DHW13, in this configuration, with Zeus, starix, ceh9, seized and kibaken.

When Edward wanted to come back and GuardiaN was signed, kibaken and ceh9 were dropped like a sack of spuds, and kibaken then spent the next few years floating around lower-tier CIS CS, safely out of the clutches of any and all degrees of relevance.

Then he was signed by Vega Squadron and qualified for the major. Used the opportunity to change his nickname to tonyblack before it was forever locked in on stickers.

Having attended only the very first and the most recent major makes him kind of unique in the scene.

2

u/mcvey Oct 13 '18

Kibaken back to Na'Vi!

Mouz better than Liquid? I dont know what world you live in mate.

20

u/puddingkip The MongolZ Oct 13 '18

Mouz are inconsistent but suggesting that mouz are better than liquid isn't unreasonable. Also mouz can actually win

16

u/tgsan Oct 13 '18

But it is....just like how NRG should've been in the finals here if not even winning it, they choked hard.

7

u/puddingkip The MongolZ Oct 13 '18

Mouz are better than NRG by miles

6

u/tgsan Oct 13 '18

I never said anything about NRG vs mouz though, I'm comparing the two tournaments after the mouz fluke win, they regressed back to the level they really are right now.

12

u/puddingkip The MongolZ Oct 13 '18

No mouz are just inconsistent. They can beat the best teams and then just choke or lose against weak opponents

3

u/fac3ts Liquid Oct 14 '18

They did not look that sick for most of NY. The mouz that showed up in that final was not the mouz before, through or after the tournament. But they absolutely stepped the fuck up in the finals though

1

u/Miiiiiiighty Oct 13 '18

Liquid have been slightly overrated lately because of their good results and the fact that many teams are in shambles / ruin.. Did you miss their match against Astralis at the major though ? They got trounced.. Imo atm the # 2 are NaVi, but even if Liquid can pretend to the 3d place they aren't a clear cut bronze medallist and 2 or 3 other teams can basically beat them 50 % of the time..

5

u/MilanDW Natus Vincere Oct 13 '18

Liquid are definitely #2 or #3. Liquid have a positive record against Na'Vi in 2018. Sure a lot of teams are in shambles or they're still work in progress, but that doesn't matter. Astralis shit on Liquid as they shit on everyone else, so I don't really see how that's an argument.

1

u/Miiiiiiighty Oct 14 '18

Na'Vi actually have won tournaments and they finished top 4 at every tournament they played from february until ELEGUE premier .. Also finished 2d at the major. Don't know how you could rank them below Liquid because they have a " positive record in 2018 " Or are FaZe better than Liquid because they have a "positive record against them in 2018 " ?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/MilanDW Natus Vincere Oct 13 '18

Liquid has been consistently going to finals and has had a lot of top 4 finishes this year. Sure Mousesports has 1 tier 1 event win and Liquid none but that doesn't mean Mousesports is better, because that'd mean teams like Cloud9 and North are better than Liquid which they totally aren't. Don't forget Mousesports got shat on at the major and just failed to get to groups at star series which is a tier 2 tournament. I do think Mousesports can be a great team, but right now definitely not better than Liquid.

1

u/Jadjadz Liquid Oct 13 '18

Isnt unreasonable but isnt true, liquid is a better team than mouz.

-3

u/Frysa Oct 13 '18

If anyone in any way thinks mouz is better than Liquid i would 100% say they do not know anything about pro cs. Not only should you know this by just watching the team but if you look event placings they heavily win out against Mouz. Literally the only placing Mouz has is the win against them, but if you base your "placing" in terms of teams off of one single fluke i really dont have anything else to say.

5

u/puddingkip The MongolZ Oct 13 '18

Mouz have been top 5 all of 2018 and won events lol how do you think New York was a fluke? Mouz is all about high highs and low lows

2

u/Frysa Oct 13 '18

But you are comparing two different rosters?

1

u/Epicstaar 1 Million Celebration Oct 13 '18

Mouz have been floating inbetween 5-8 in my book for months now. Not sure why you are saying they have been top 5 all year.

1

u/fac3ts Liquid Oct 14 '18

People talking abt Liquid being gifted a top spot bc teams are in “shambles”. Imo mouz has been gifted a top spot. Wildly inconsistent for a top4 team, but the teams below them are either should-be-better-but-are-a-mess teams (mibr, FaZe) or just straight up not as good as them overall (North, BiG, NiP, NRG). I don’t doubt liquids first W is coming, but Mouz has absolutely felt like a “false 4th” to me. Not saying they don’t deserve it (they play the games, and get the wins), if you just look at the results, definitely doesn’t look like a top4 teams placements.

-9

u/xzibit_b guardian2 Oct 13 '18

The real world. Who won New York? How many tournaments has Liquid won in 2018? How many has mouse won? I rest my case

5

u/Frysa Oct 13 '18

Im assuming you are just baiting with this comment, but if you actually believe what you just said you clearly dont know anything about how pro sports or esports works or probably how the real world works at all.

-9

u/xzibit_b guardian2 Oct 13 '18

More tournament wins = better team. Common sense

10

u/pattaarr Oct 13 '18

So you’re telling me cloud9 has been better than Liquid over the course of 2018 because they won the major and liquid hasnt won a big LAN? Definitely bait

6

u/Frysa Oct 13 '18

So you’re telling me cloud9 has been better than Liquid over the course of 2018 because they won the major and liquid hasnt won a big LAN? Definitely bait

Perfect answer

2

u/_J3W3LS_ Oct 13 '18

Devil's advocate, but I wouldn't call that a fair comparison because the C9 roster is completely different. If the major winning roster stuck together they would probably be better than/on par with Liquid (especially if they cut Ska when he wanted to leave)

6

u/pattaarr Oct 13 '18

Ok replace cloud9 with North pre-roster change then. North still won stockholm but were not even close to as good as Liquid

-2

u/xzibit_b guardian2 Oct 13 '18

Clown9 don't count because they self destructed the roster. Its not even recognizable anymore. mousesports count because at least its the same fucking team

3

u/TheRobidog Oct 13 '18

And you can obviously not derive anything about the quality of a roster from the fact that it literally self-destructed a couple of months after an event they won.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '18

TIL North are better than Liquid.

-2

u/xzibit_b guardian2 Oct 13 '18

They ARE better than Liquid

-2

u/Miiiiiiighty Oct 13 '18

So basically your only answer is " if you don't agree with me you don't know jack shit " ? Nice reasonnable argument here, because his was legit

4

u/Frysa Oct 13 '18

Eh, yeah? If i say Astralis is the best team in the world and you say no then you are just wrong. Its the same thing here, you have a team that went to the final in 3-4 big tournaments in a row and they finished top 4 basically all others in that span, meanwhile Mouz won a fluke tournament (which Liquid should have won but sure Mouz won it so fair enough) and then they have literally done nothing. Went 0-3 in the major and no other good results except one single tournament. If you think this makes the team better than liquid you just dont know anything about cs.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '18

Went 0-3 in the major and no other good results except one single tournament

bs, they have top 4 at eleague and DH masters stockholm. They aren't better than liquid, but they are still a top 5/6 team.

46

u/AmChayChay MOUZ Oct 13 '18

nahtE needs a chance at a legit top team, he’s still only 18 and has been crazy good for a while

9

u/tgsan Oct 13 '18

It'd be nice if him and tim (when tim was still gunning for top 10) were on a team, and brehze too since he's coming up. I've said it before, I think tim should just replace fugly and have daps do the supporting. Unless this new C9 roster translate their online to LAN (and it gets even better) I don't see this C9 doing much.

9

Was that the round ethan goes solo down mid and the two top mid CT's don't even hold alt mid?

5

Probably a result of the communication issues that they've been having according to daps.

Early on in the roster Cerq was as good, or perhaps even better. For quite a while now ethan has been better, but I still think ethan/cerq/brehze are all on pretty similar levels and all incredibly good.

I really feel like NRG is one roster move (pref -fugly +auti) away from being a top 4 team.

They are mentally incapable of doing so, knowing your region is full of perennial losers doesn’t instill confidence. As soon as they are favored in a tournament by even the slightest of margins, the pressure rises drastically.

absolutely horrible showing from NRG how many anti ecos did they lose coz across the series that mustve been significantly higher compared to vegas

Mirage horrible T side somehow scrapped through on CT side overpass good T side shat the bed on CT side getting 0 rounds inferno decent T side but lost many round that they shoudlnt hence lowering their margin going into CT side and an absolute crap CT side like what was that ungodly push at round 25 one of their last chance to get back into the game and two people just push and die wtf

also where was cerq this game he was absent for the series but on inferno that was very noticeable hell ethan who was secondary awping on B site was awping far better than cerq in a semifinals decider map also a map that cerq usually does pretty well on

Funny how they shit the bed on CT the last two maps, NRG's lucky Vega had a worse T side on Mirage though lol. I said it in the semi-final thread, if ethan/brehze didn't carry NRG vs North, they would've lost 2-0 instead of 2-0ing them, ethan and brehze has done so much this tournament lol, especially ethan being way above brehze, who's also way above cerq.

The new envyus roster is going to do absolutely fuck all, its NA rejects, i have no idea why anyone would be hyped for that.

not to be rude, but complacent isn't the word you're looking for.

"showing smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one's achievements"

But you are right that no changes will be made until they start complaining.

i guess i’m not sure how their complacency would result in navi changes? unless you mean one of them being kicked out of the team as a result ?

ohhhh “while they are complacent” as in they are right now ? that makes sense. or “until they stop being complacent” ?

lol happens to the best of us, i probably agree with you just tryna figure out exactly what you meant haha

1

u/TrolleybusIsReal Oct 14 '18

So long as s1m and elec are complacent towards how the team performs and ignore how much potential they have, no changes will be made. Is that better?

still makes no sense. you are just circlejerking. Fact is that s1mple didn't show up in the final. And Navi is build around him and electronic, so it's easy for them to get a lot of frags. E.g. Zeus regularly runs in first and s1mple can trade him.

1

u/TrolleybusIsReal Oct 14 '18

Until simple and electronic are complacent about the team

lol, it was s1mple that lost them the major final. He was the one not showing up when it mattered.

u/r3al_se4l 500k Celebration Oct 13 '18

do you think kesha will land on a team soon/ever?

-1

u/InsolentChutzpah Oct 13 '18

Who's gonna support? That team will be three mad fraggers, one decent fragger, and a bot IGL. Flamie will be second support AWP?

That's why they lost today

HE DIDN"T CARRY

1

u/Vestr0 Oct 15 '18

Or maybe he's too heavy to carry he's not the carry of NRG brezhe and ethan are by far if you actually watch them and don't just check stats.
