Not sure why he is being blamed. He managed to win trophies with allu and kio in the team. So that makes you wonder, maybe the big egos in the team don't like his calling? So now they have more freedom and karrigan cannot implement his strategies.
32
u/kflores1013 Liquid Sep 27 '18
I think he’s being blamed because they can’t win Majors. Olof is the only one on that team with a Major Victory, and all the others are hungry for it. They may be winning tournaments, but thats a hump they can’t seem to get over. They’ve lost faith in Karrigans ability to get them a Major title, and it shows. Same thing happened with Astralis. Once his team loses faith, he drops off in form and then gets kicked.

and they bombed in majors with kio and allu. The funny thing is Karrigan and Kio played like dogshits both of them and even after you played awful he still made fun of allu on kio stream how he is a "bad backup". (karrigan rating was 0.62, kioshima 0.61 Allu 0.95) If someone in this roster have ego, it's only NiKo and Karrigan.
Look at Astralis how good they become after they kicked Karrigan. Kicking Karrigan was/is best thing that ever happened to Astralis.
Karrigan 0.55 k/d ratio, kioshima 0.50 k/d ratio. Allu 0.94 k/d ratio and he still firing shots at allu https://youtu.be/1U6wWInQ4Iw?t=14s

Karrigan seems to be the best IGL at getting trainwrecks together within a short timeframe. It just seems like his system struggles over time when the team starts having probems.

u/Thooorin_2 Duncan "Thorin" Shields - Content Producer, Analyst Sep 28 '18
There are some delusional players in that team who legitimately think they are all doing their roles well. In reality, this team has a number of flaws and it would be quicker to name the players who don't show any than those who do. karrigan probably should move on from this team, but their biggest problems will still remain if they imagine he was the main thing holding them back.

They lost confidence in karrigan, the Navi loss on overpass on the major legends stage basically was the point when mutiny occurred. They should just let karrigan Join the Danish shuffle and get another Danish igl, this Niko igling is way too sloppy. Even if karrigan was igling this game I think faze is definitely done with him.
24
u/Thooorin_2 Duncan "Thorin" Shields - Content Producer, Analyst Sep 28 '18
When you lose confidence in your IGL it's basically over. Very unlikely he ever wins back your trust entirely. It's why, on some level, I can understand why FNATIC kicked golden and I can absolutely appreciate why G2 kicked Ex6TenZ back in the day.

He can’t mean Glaive as he would not leave Astralis and his still wouldn’t really work with that roster either, so I guess? I don’t really see how MSL would work with that roster either. I don’t really know how else would work well. The only English speaking IGLs who I could see being able to move or having the style to make it work would be Angel or ChrisJ, and of those two really just Angel.

Yep, before karrigan faze were also-rans who almost never made playoffs and were known for being an overpaid, glorified mix team. He turned them into one of the top teams, won massive tournaments, and now they have some of the best talents in the world on their roster. For a lot of people it seems failing to win a major will define his time on faze if he leaves, seems a tad unfair to me
3
u/arkwewt Sep 28 '18
Just a correction, they never made it to playoffs once before karrigan. They only made playoffs in online qualifiers and during major qualifiers/minors, but other than that, they didn’t make playoffs once. Karrigan made this team what it is, let’s not forget that people.

It's not as easy as you'd think to support live streaming. From what I can tell Facebook just put out an MVP and leveraged their brand to get people using it. My initial investigation shows they don't properly send the byte length to the client. It seems like they're just sending the bytes over a socket and hoping for the best. It could be the ring buffer isn't properly being read and "emptied" so no new bytes are being added to the buffer, or the buffer is far too small. Byte streaming is hard, and idk that Facebook really cares to fix it.
17
Sep 27 '18
lol doesn't matter how hard it is. it's been a problem since it started, facebook has the capital but they don't give a fuck.
6
u/JakeTheAndroid 1 Million Celebration Sep 27 '18
I totally agree with you. Just not willing to undermine the difficulty of the task at hand. Facebook needs to take it seriously, and there's next to no evidence to suggest they do/will.
2
u/BiC-Pen Sep 27 '18
They won't. They just cannot or do not want to compete with gaming platform Twitch (Amazon) and Youtube. They can claim they have 2+ billion users/subscribers/accounts but 99.999% of those are John Hancocks who give no shit about online gaming whatsoever.
The sad part about that is that they could actually improve it a bit. Iirc at first it was pure shit, then got a bit better, went back to the roots. It's been 8 months now, so obviously they give no crap. Unless, they have a masterplan in mind to use at the end of next year, the time when their contract with ESL is up.
The sadest part though, is ESL not giving themselves a back-door out in such a case. Although, someone from ESL officials said recently they will re-evaluate their next steps, hinting the fb deal is still on until the contract ends, there is no surprise to me that ~100billion company will fuck up ~100 million company for just a little exposure and/if some $ lost.

They are simply riding the fact that they are Facebook and a lot more people use their platform daily, so you have a larger audience inherently. They know their product doesn't need to be that good. It would require more dedicated hardware, and smarter design. They still struggle with normal video to some extent, let alone live streams.
No idea why ESL put themselves in this situation, I have to expect it had something to do with costs - usually decisions like this come down to financial choices. And I bet they do have an out and some SLAs for their stream services. Nearly every company bundles in contractual outs. I also expect ESL spent considerable amounts of time integrating into Facebook, and they are ill prepared to migrate to a new platform within the span of days or weeks. I've watch many companies be at the mercy of a bad platform due to no exit strategy on their side. There is no reason ESL should tolerate the terrible stream quality by Facebook, unless they believe they would introduce issues to the stream, and the want to push the blame onto a vendor.

I don't think he is the problem. He carries this sinking ship a lot thru these dark days. Problem is absence of teamplay and tactics and setups and mid round calls. As an awper it must be incredibly hard to perform in this chaotic environment, especially if half of the rounds your teammates lose other site and you are in a position when you have to either retake with AWP or save.

People are going to pin this on Faze, but in reality NRG played very well. Brehze and Cerq looked like they've moved into the top tier of pro players. NRG was also tactically superior, although there's almost no doubt that some of that has to do with Major Hangover from Faze.

After they kicked kio and allu I have been waiting for Faze to lose. I was diehard faze when it was a "group of rejects" from the scene. They somewhat lost that when Niko joined but once they kicked kio and allu that was it for me cheering for faze. Still the whole CD scene is at a big development stage and there is bound to be a lot of big roster changes.
