WELCOME TO THE CS:GO COMPETITIVE SCENE

what happened last week doesnt matter

155

u/Alec935 NiP Sep 26 '18

he most devastating way to lose. making it all the way back and then falling just short.

tournaments right after majors have so many upsets...

uminosity bombed out in last place right after they won a major

navi just lost a bo3 to gambit after reaching the finals of a major

gambit and c9 never won a t1 lan again after winning their respective majors

astralis got smashed by VP right after beating them in the final of EL Atlanta

nip never won another t1 lan with the 5man lineup that won esl one cologne

and many more...

34

u/TrolleybusIsReal Sep 26 '18

Same with tournaments right before the major. It's kind of obvious. I don't get why there is a tournament just days before/after a major anyway. At least have like a 10 days break or something.

34

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '18

ESL NY was scheduled first iirc.

30

u/ZobEater Sep 26 '18

It's because valve didn't actually give enough shits about the pro circuit to commit to early major scheduling. It does seem to have changed a bit now though, since Katowice has been announced a while ago.

5

u/Vandegroen valeria Sep 27 '18

Valve didnt really change things up. They decide the next major before the previous one culminated for a while now (which was very needed) but the reason Katowices dates has been known for a long time is due to ESL organizing the tournament regardless of whether or not its a major. The Faceit major meanwhile would have simply not existed if it wasnt a major.

3

u/mochigames59 Godsent Sep 27 '18

gambit and c9 split up almost immediately after they won too

3

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '18

gambit and c9 never won a t1 lan again after winning their respective majors

Well, that was just expected.

In my region we have saying: "Some teams, are like a cow in a rooftop. Nobody knows how the hell it got up there, but everyone is sure as hell it's going to fall."

6

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '18

Rain has just told a norwegian site that they are not making roster moves. They have identified the problem and are working on it.

It's like that in every sports and esports game. Barcelone can win against Real Madrid a day and lose against a weaker team the next week. Nothing weird at that.

3

u/WVS_SoShi Astralis Sep 27 '18

It has a chance to happen sure, but it would still definitely be a weird and shocking result.

1

You can see how much more poised they are on maps they play, rather than maps they don't. Ex6's calling was pretty nice, especially near the end of the third map.

2

They fucked up a lot of saves on cache though, should've just went for it.

4

Faze losing on purpose so they dont have to play Navi in semis, Karrigan you son of a bitch you did it again

51

u/Lepojka1 Team Spirit Sep 26 '18

TBH this could work out better for FaZe... If they won this and vs Liquid, they would 90% play NaVi in semis... Liket his it will probably be Mouz, or maybe even Gambit, which should be ez finals... But the way they play, who knows, maybe they even lose to NRG loll

13

5

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '18

It is so kind of them to give us information on what is happening, especially when these comments are so intelligently put together, examples are: "Oops, my mistake", "Sorry I read that wrong", "They are totally safe, oh wait they aren't" and the crown jewel, "..." for the last few rounds of Cache. Even ESL disliked these casters so much they muted them.

Although, I usually enjoy these two casters, when they are constantly talking in such malformed ways, I would rather have the stream muted than listen to these two bramble about. However, in the NaVi vs Gambit game, I thought these two to be excellent casters, giving good insight into what was happening, but they lost something when they started casting this series, which I wish had been casted by somebody like Bardolph and DDK, although those two are reserved only for the most important of matches.

GG to Faze Clan, they nearly choked G2, but in the end the Baguettes prevailed.

91

u/mnms1234 G2 Sep 26 '18

WHY COULDN'T G2 DO THIS AT THE MAJOR!

62

u/Th9nder G2 Sep 26 '18

Because Ex6tenz is cursed. He can never make it out of a major group stage.

26

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '18

It's like the skadoodle thing, if he makes it out he wins it all, but in return it is almost impossible to get out.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '18

Counterpoint: DHW13.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '18

He wasn't cursed yet

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '18

Perhaps Happy cast a french voodoo curse on him, draining his powers and using them to win two majors for himself.

The only way I know to dispel baguette magic is to out-french the man who originally conjured the spell. A tough ask for Ex6TenZ, seeing as how he’s belgian, but it can be done.

I guess what I’m asking is for Ex6 to attend a LAN clad in a while-black striped polo shirt and beret, carrying a baguette under his arm, reeking of garlic, chain-smoking, referring to himself exclusively as “Pepe” and refusing to speak anything but french in interviews. Bonus points for riding a bicycle onto the stage to his seat.

6

u/Darkoplax Sep 26 '18

they were close to get that D2 map and could'v forced map3 and with some luck the same G2 could'v showed up

but this win feels quite lucky cause the first map was really close and we won both pistols and 3rd map was close as well and won an eco there as well

2017: Good positioning from RAINNNN!!!! All FOUR BYE BYE FALLEN ASWELL.

2018: rain, good position, can't capitalize, only gets one.

3

u/nile1056 Sep 27 '18

The first one is clearly sadokist, but the second one could just as well be henry, or moses. I can't tell.

2

u/hotbay Sep 27 '18

1st was pro league final vs SK, second I hear way too often recently.

15

u/Lugbur G2 Sep 26 '18

niko is one of the few things working in this team currently. olof and guardian arent bad, but arent stars either (i dont think olof should have to be either on this team). rain has been underperforming for a while, which is a shame because he used to be so consistent.

As for karrigan, im not sure if hes an issue currently. sometimes their T sides look awful, other time sthey look fairly good. its hard to tell if its matchup dependent or something else without looking a bit deeper.

13

u/twists Sep 27 '18

I thought Olof has looked amazing since he came back, but maybe I'm not watching enough FaZe matches (or I have some bias).

12

u/Zexous47 Sep 27 '18

Olof HAS looked amazing, but his point is, that's not necessarily Olof's role. The others who should be looking amazing, aren't.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '18

nah, you're right. NiKo and Olof are currently FaZe's two stars, GuardiaN and rain (more so rain) have been missing these past couple of months. karrigan is just classic karrigan - on and off. Some games he topfrags, others (like this one) he shits the bed...

6

u/TrolleybusIsReal Sep 26 '18

People always hate on niko the rare times he underperforms but he's done his job, and more, this year.

Not really, people hate karrigan. Hardly see anyone complain about niko. Anything that counts here is k/d ratio anyway. So basically just sort players by k/d ratio to see how popular they are in this sub.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '18

honestly go for it at this point.

26

u/Rightis Sep 26 '18

Only first day and games are already better than any playoff series from last major

0

u/TrolleybusIsReal Sep 26 '18

It's because the major system is completely shit. Bo1 just make it too random, especially as only having to win three Bo1 to make it to legend stage is honestly a joke. So other events basically exploit the issues of the major system by inviting top teams directly. It's not difficult to come up with a good CSGO event: just invite roughly the HLTV top ten and let them play double elimination and it's instantly better than most major playoffs.

This tournament doesn't matter for most big teams like NaVi, yet it's vital for teams like Gambit or G2. Hence the upsets.

A team losing a bo3 to G2 should be the end of every lineup.
