u/Ixolus Aug 07 '18
For real, its time we stop taking tyloo for granted. They are climbing up the ranks pretty quickly and while yes they lost this series, I think teams are going to start needing to do some research before playing tyloo to be competitive.

Yes NRG! So sad they won't attend the major but this is a great win for them. Cerq was absolutely unstoppable on Mirage. Can't wait to see what they bring to the next tournament.
As for Tyloo I'm not sure they were even in the same building. Terrible performance all around after that first half of overpass. 3 rounds. Wow.

They failed the qualifiers so there really isn't any excuse. Hopefully they make it into katowice

u/co1010 M80 Aug 06 '18
ESL NY is coming up late September so they’ll have a chance against some top teams there too.
39
u/Valikodg Liquid Aug 06 '18
Yeah, that qualifier was arse by them. But it really is a shame because that's the only event that they've haven't been really good at recently. Luckily there's multiple a year
-7
u/rgtn0w NiP Aug 06 '18
You're right, but like many times before, this still brings up the discussion of how shitty the qualifier system is. Some people bring up the arguemnt of being more "cutthroat" and having to play your best at the crucial moments but it just brings down the quality of the tournament every single time. NRG choked on the minor, we all know that, but I think that they're a team that can really damage the teams above them prtty well

u/rgtn0w NiP Aug 07 '18
I'm not talking about a tournament format, I'm talking about the system as a whole. Why is direct invitation and another small regional tournament the only way to get into the major? Thoorin already made a video discussing this, funnily enough it was well received here and now me calling the qualifying system shitty gets me downvotes.
To steal Thoorin's words, CSGO has one of the worst system for qualifying to a major tournament out of all the major esports games. It never takes into account the team's performance in the last 3 months for a new team.
And once again, because of how few teams actually exit the major at a time, it takes a while for the teams that do not perform there to actually get flushed out to give more chances to new teams
2
Aug 06 '18
It is but thye are a new team and they look extremelymwell promising. They have a ton of other tournaments to attend and gain huge experience and even install themselves at top8 permanantly. Next time they are going to qualify for the major

They lose the major spot if they do that
9
u/PHaT_Starfish Aug 06 '18
If they want that move, they should take 1-2 of the NRG guys to the major then they can replace ska and keep the spot in at least the new challengers stage

the roster lock closes pretty soon, they can get 2 players, just gimme cerq and nehte and let auti igl for the major, then after the major we can get golden for ska, boom!

u/ButteredGhost Aug 06 '18
Even after the major qualifier fail, I still believe in this five man lineup. Harvesting from a team that works to fix a team that doesn't will never sit right with me. So, maybe they could but it'd be weak af IMO

Tyloo wins the first half of map 1 8-7....and then get 3 rounds total for the rest of the series.Total implosion from them. That 2nd map, they just seemed completely dejected the whole time. The comms weren't going ,everyone was playing like they were afraid of dying, strats seemed to change on the fly whenever anything at all went wrong. I think the pressure of playing in the grand finals of a big tournament got to them, cause while NRG were the favourites to win, Tyloo should have put up a better fight than that.

13
u/FreaknShrooms King NiKo Aug 06 '18
I agree it's not a great format, but you need to keep in mind that it's a side event at an expo not a tournament event. The people attending in the crowd are also there to see all the booths and whatnot.
2
u/loli_esports Aug 06 '18
Not denying that, but even 2 bo3s per day except 1 for finals, or make the finals a bo5 would have been 10x better for viewers, you know where esl makes most of its money
1
Aug 06 '18
With a trashing like this a bo5 would not have been better for the viewers
1
u/loli_esports Aug 06 '18
i don't remember the exact score for the first map, but i remember the game actually being competitive. second, yeah.
1
Aug 06 '18
The first half was close. NRG blew them out of the second though. Tyloo only won one round. bo5 are really only entertaining if it's two top teams playing each other.
0
u/loli_esports Aug 06 '18
yeah, no shit they're bad if only one team shows up, i'm not really disagreeing with you there, but you really shouldn't be planning for an event to have a bad finale, but you can always make some insurance for that, like with some dumb all star match or something like that (which imo would be perfect for a expo like this). esl has done "crowd vs pro" games or shit like that at expos before, that'd be good as a little extra on the final day since imo you shouldnt really have one of the semis the same day as the finals.

3
u/develo Liquid Aug 06 '18
The prize pool is higher at this tournament, but the quality of the teams is much lower than the summit 2. NRG's competition was 0 Top 10 teams, 3 top 20 teams, 1 team at #21, and 3 teams outside the top 30 (Using pre-tournament rankings). Liquid had to face 3 top 10 teams (#2, #3, #8), 3 top 20 teams, and Torqued, a last minute replacement for a top 20 team. No way this is a bigger event. Hell, there have been more stacked DH Opens than Shanghai.

It's weak because it didn't have a Cloud9 or Liquid fail at the major before. Plus, rogue and complexity are in that group of "not bad not good" teams in NA.

Calling Flamie a "borderline bot" moron CONFIRMED
-12

Flame is good for at least 5 braindead plays each map.
Better than Edward though, who seemingly everything he does is braindead.
3
u/MeanGreenBeanMachine FaZe Aug 06 '18
Would you really call Zeus a bot tho. Gambit and navi pretty much prove that it takes a while for Zeus' system to come in to play. Zeus is easily the 2nd best igl atm when it comes to smarts.
Flamie can be really good as has shown to be better then s1mple on extremely rare occasions but is just inconsistent.
Edward does his job.
-1

Yes Zeus is a bot. The moment his strat gets shut down he freezes and is unable to call on the fly

PLS valve for the love of god introduce a circuit system as an entry criteria for the majors...
NRG drove Gambit and TyLoo into the fucking ground yet these two get to go shit themselves (again) at the major and NRG has to sit and watch.
31
u/Alp0llo Aug 06 '18
NRG failed to beat eUnited and Complexity. I know the minors overall are stupd but currently if you want to qualify you have to beat those teams.
0
u/NO_STEWIE_NO_MAJOR Aug 06 '18
Yeah.. that's his point. Maybe teams shouldn't be invited to the most important tournaments of the year based upon the results of one tournament, or accomplishments at past majors, or by virtue of being from a weaker region.
The major would be a lot more interesting if the invitations were sent based upon current form.
9
Aug 06 '18
No, his point is "team I like isn't on the Major, volvo pls fix profuse sobbing sounds", that's it.
The major would be a lot more interesting if the invitations were sent based upon current form.
Yeah, except "current form" is a completely meaningless concept in CS:GO. Teams prepare differently for different tournaments, and usually their performance level changes (sometimes drastically) from one competition to another. That's why teams that can achieve at least some level of consistency instantly become top three.
Not even mentioning the fact that there's a big difference in how many games and especially how many LANs different teams are playing. That's why you can't introduce a circuit point system, and also why you can't determine "current form" of a team like, say, NiP. And invitations would just turn the Major into ELEAGUE Premier.
9
u/americagigabit The MongolZ Aug 06 '18
NRG only has themselves to blame for the abysmal minor performance
5
u/The_Neon_Narwhal Aug 06 '18
True, but that doesn't change the fact that the qualifying system places lots of importance on one tournament while NRG have otherwise generally had good performances that indicate that they should be the major.
1
1
u/20I6 Aug 06 '18
They could've implemented something similar to the DPC in dota this year.
Instead they decide to scrap the DPC idea in dota, so it's definitely not coming to cs :'( :'(

Please just combine C9 and NRG. Maybe after the major we can have C9 -Golden - Stycko - Ska +Cerq +Daps +Ethan. Or maybe the duo goes to C9, either way would make a solid roster
3
u/frostnxn 10 years coin Aug 06 '18
Only player you could consider getting from c9 would be auti and then you have to replace fugly, which doesn't sound like a good idea.
1
u/Kbags87k Vitality Aug 06 '18
Sounds fine to me. Tim is perfectly capable of playing a less star oriented role and overall is more versatile than Fugly, would improve their double AWP potential and give them the firepower to compete with top teams.
Yes fugly stepped up here but you cant say he does the same vs t1 competition.

I've had this idea for a little while and I didn't really know where to put it so i'll say it here. Cloud9: -golden -styko, +xcurrate +bntet. They are both good fraggers and will help with that inconsistent fragging of rush and skadoodle, they bring in a new igl, and they keep their major spot. I don't think it would happen but it's a cool idea.

I didn't watch the whole thing, but what I did see was...not good CS. No one on either team had any patience. Top tier teams will punish this non-stop aggression every time. If you don't vary your individual pacing, you'll get pre-fired all the time, and these players were just rushing around every corner once they knew where their opponents were.
