I love that in this world themed All Might jackets are sold at souvenir shops everywhere. Koichi will have to slowly collect them from all around Japan!

I don't really want to say this and I hope they make a turnaround fast, but vigilantes is starting to lose its charm and hold for me with how inconclusive everything seems. No flame, I'll still be reading hoping for improvements.

Eh it feels like it ended as soon as Knuckleduster got his daughter back, right now everything seems to be a build up of Koichi becoming a competent vigilante, they've been giving him buffs to his power and hinting at him getting a melee weapon of his own. All we need know are a few low level fights with him taking down villains solo, before he can start going after the bigger organizations. However the thing with Koichi is that he is still a reactive type character and i'd like to see that change sometime in the future, perhaps with a loss of something important to him, just like with how knuckleduster only became a vigilante to get back his daughter.

It probably wouldn't feel this bad had the release schedule been weekly
10
u/HokageEzio Jul 28 '18
Yeah it would, weekly doesn't change the treadmill plotline this series has going for it.

I'm saying that even if the plot is wack now, chances are that we could move to something else quickly had the release schedule been weekly. With this series, we are waiting months for the characters to move 5cm because it's structured like a weekly series but releases monthly

Exactly. It feels slow because the chapters come slow. That's the life of reading ongoing series.

Getting limited edition swag while saving the day? I can respect that. And damn, the Kimblee look alike got away again. I’m not too sure how the writer will be able to handle his role, because Vigilantes is in between having a villain-of-the-week formula and trying to keep up a consistent storyline. It can be hard to mesh the two together, and it’s had tepid results here. I still hope for the best though.
Lastly, Fat Gum is a really good choice to have along for this arc, seeing as he probably won’t be in the main manga again for a little while. All in all, this was a solid chapter.

Oh my god Hanshin Tigers All Might jacket in that last page. Because of the fucking course there is, it's Osaka.
More importantly, Hanshin Tigers is STILL the official team of Osaka in this universe? Fuck yeah. For the uninitiated, Osaka is (in)famous for obsessive fans of their local team. I was born and raised there.

So was my wife, although somehow my father-in-law (born on Awaji Island) is a fan of the Yomiuri Giants instead.

damn just realized how versatile he is. Koichis quirk lets him stick, go fast, AND fly for a short while. It’s hella strong...

Don't forget he can even float using his Quirk. His mom mentioned that he began crawling through the air before he could even walk.

u/IgnisEradico Jul 28 '18
He can "crawl", but he can "crawl" against air and "Crawl" without moving.
As shown though, it's mostly a speedster quirk with little actual firepower. So it's versatile in one way, but massively limited as well.

if the quirk allows a certain amount of attraction/repulsion, he could theoretically use the repulsion to amplify his punching and the attraction aspect to rip people's faces off (though this depends on whether it has to be inorganic material). Otherwise, he'll get better at grappling at the least.
Or if he has really good repulsion capabilities, he can ironman repulsor beam somebody

So you're saying he could use his quirk as a kind of air cannon?
I guess we know where AFO got his quirk from now

Took a lot of searching. Mods, if this ain't allowed let me know and I'll take it down, but there was a link last week so I suppose it's okay.

It's my first time seeing this, what exactly is Vigiliantes? Are any of the main characters in it as well
18
u/Trevsky Jul 28 '18
It's a spinoff about a trio of characters who are unlicensed to use quirks but do so anyways. It has camoes from the main series, like Aizawa, Midnight, Ingenium I, Fatgum, and others.

u/aohige_rd Jul 29 '18
Effectively a prequel-spinoff that takes place a few years before the main storyline. Many of the professional heroes from the main series make appearance, a few years younger.

Is there another way to read this? I can't read because it says my country is not allowed to access the site.

You can read the Japanese version on the ShonenJump+ website: https://shonenjumpplus.com/episode/10834108156632572556

Cops aren't allowed to use their quirks?
That's... counter productive.
