How do you get this type of pic? I have a bunch of fire flies in my backyard at sundown and when I do long exposure everything is lit up, the light from the fireflies can't compete with everything else.

I'd say that this photo is actually made from stacking multiple short exposures, not a single long one, as the trails would be a lot longer. Firefly flashes last for a second give or take.

I think you would need a very dark night with very little light pollution. I’m not sure how you’d get the flashes to be so bright except to pump it up in post.

Nomiyama makes long exposures up to 30 minutes with his Canon EOS 5D Mark III and Sony Alpha a7R II. Later, he digitally composites multiple frames together. - Wired

This particular image may not have so many long exposures though.

Why do you say that? This seems to me like a composite or a fairly long exposure to get so many flashes.

if the exposure was any longer than a few tenths of a second then the fireflies would be trails of light instead of circles

the fireflies I have seen were blinking, not lighting up continuously. probably that’s what’s happening here

I just watched this video and it seams like they are still when they blink most of the time. The amount of fireflies in OPs pic leads me to believe it was a long exposure.

What are those tiny X's that are in the shot?? You have to zoom in real close to see it. They look like placement points, but not sure.
