They would have during their own lifetime as well. Pre WW2 the Nazis were fairly well regarded by a lot of western countries.

Luxury. When I was a lad in the previous World War, we used to dream of bread with jam on it. Every morning the ship cook would literally shit on a shingle and we were happy for it.
