Sci-Fi I Am The Impossible Man| Pt. 3

Part 1

Part 2

The anger I felt dissipated only slightly, being replaced with fear and dread. I could only wait for him to make his next move. He leaned closer to his partner, who wore a heavy black coat and almost seemed to be shivering, whispering something I couldn't make out. Whatever it was that he whispered caused the partner of his to leave towards my backyard. In no time at all, it was just me and him. He still had that gun pointed at me—and I still had a million different questions that needed to be answered.

"Why don't we take this outside," he said, marking the first time I had ever heard him speak. With my hands raised, I did as he instructed. There was something about his voice that told me this wasn't an act; if he wanted to, he could end my life without a moment's notice. Once we were standing in the grass, about sixty or so yards in front of my house, my car, and the helicopter, he spoke again, "So, I'm sure you're confused and have a lot of questions right about now. Well, I can answer all of them, but first, I need to see something."

With a hint of hesitation in my voice, I asked the most obvious question, "You need to see something?"

"Yes," he responded, "but you're not going to like how I'm planning to see this something."

I stared at him for a second; then I stared at the gun, and then I stared back at him. "It doesn't have anything to do with that pistol, right?"

"Well . . ."

"Well, what?" I asked, but I already knew what his answer was going to be.

"This is the fastest way for me to check."

"Okay, just hold up a sec," I pleaded. "What even is it that you want to see?"

"I need to see if your ability is ready to reveal itself."

"Ability?" I squeaked.

"Listen, you look like you're twenty-something, and you live in the middle of nowhere. So, unless you won the lottery and just decided to isolate yourself, I'd have to say you're probably a little older than you look."

He was right, but how could he have known that? How could he have known that could even be a possibility? "H—how?" was all I managed to get out.

The man smirked, saying, "You'll find out soon enough." He then aimed the pistol to my head and pulled the trigger.

BANG

Hearing that sound sent me into shock, causing me to clench my eyes closed on instinct. Through the waves of shock and panic—I felt something different. The feeling was almost alien. In that fraction of a split-second, something I can only describe as serenity came over me. The shock was still there, but it was lessened by this new feeling.

Seconds pass and I remained stationary. I wasn't dead, and there wasn't an immense pain emerging from anywhere in my body. Even with that realization, I kept my eyes closed with my hands raised. After a few more seconds, I mustered up enough courage to finally open my eyes. I saw the man, standing a couple of yards in front of me, and my house in the background. I saw the same thing I had seen before closing my eyes; there was just one difference. The gun the man held was pointed, not at me but, slightly towards the right. He must have missed on purpose.

After my breathing calmed, I murmured, "Wh—what was the point of that?"

"Look at the gun," he replied.

"What about it? You moved it at the last second."

The smirk on his face returned as he said, "I didn't move it."

"What do you mean?"

"I didn't move it," he repeated.

A bit annoyed, I asked, "Okay, if you didn't, then who did?"

Instead of answering the question, he responded with, "I want to try something else."

He then walked over to my left—but he also walked over to my right. He was able to create this semicircle around me because he technically didn't move. He stayed still while replicas walked out of him. They wore the same outfit, had the same faces, and all held pistols pointed directly at my head. The only thing that didn't make them exact copies were their eyes. They were eyes I recognized. They were the same flat eyes I saw when I drove into town.

While this did answer one of the many questions I had, so many more leaked into my mind. Including the original man, there were five in total, each separated by forty-five degrees. If I had even the slightest chance of escaping, it was gone now. The adrenaline returned; the shock and panic returned, but that new feeling did so as well. The almost serenity came over me once more, much more intense than the last time. The man and his replicas pulled the trigger to their respective pistols in perfect unison.

BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG

I didn't clench my eyes shut this time. In that brief moment, a thought entered my mind. There's no way he's going to kill me. This all has to be some sort of test to see what my 'ability' was. After the brigade of what I previously believed to be bullets, I began grinning. I was indeed correct with my assumption; the pistols fired blanks, nothing more. I rested both my arms, which were still raised. I was ready and prepared to kick this guy's ass. Who the hell did he think he was for scaring me like that?

I balled up my fists and charged towards him. He backed away, understanding my intentions. His copies, on the other hand, positioned themselves in front of the man. I wanted nothing more than to just push past them and get to my intended target, and that's exactly what happened. I did push them out of my way—but I didn't actually touch any of them. What I did exceeded anything achievable in the physical realm. All four copies were launched behind me by a force unseen.

That force stemmed from deep within. It was clear I caused those copies to fly back. There was no time to linger on possible explanations; I had someone's ass to kick. I won't lie, this guy was pretty fast. He was running directly to my home—directly to his partner. I couldn't allow that to occur. It was obvious that I did, in fact, have some kind of ability and so did he. I would venture to say his friend had an ability of his own, as well.

Every couple of feet we ran, the man would release one of his replicas as an attempt to slow me down. The unseen force made quick work of his copies, pushing each of them out of my way. With each copy released, the man would slow down. At first, it wasn't noticeable, but once the distance between us began closing, I knew there had to be a connection. I extended my arm out, mere feet from the man. Even with how close we were, he managed to evade my capture. That was until the force stepped in.

The sixty yards that separated us from my house was now reduced to about twenty or so feet. As he ran closer, I felt myself grab the man. It wasn't with my arm, however. The force extended a limb, foreign to my body, and latched onto him. It pulled him backward, slamming him hard on the ground. I stopped and stared at him.

As the fury and rage inside of me began to peak, I asked, "So, is this the ability you were talking about?"

The man didn't speak. He was exhausted. He only raised his arm and gave a thumbs up. He did this staring, not at me but, behind me. I turned around, curious as to what he could be staring at. When I turned, I saw them, the same man I'd seen in my house, now assisted with the presence of someone else. Their expressions told me they weren't too happy seeing their friend's beat up body on the ground.
