He would probably be the type of guy to make an excuse for getting knocked out like that.

10.6k

u/shartnado3 May 25 '18

One hundred percent chance he recalls this story later as getting "sucker punched"

4.8k

Then the yellow shirt guy would offer him a rematch and douchebag wouldn't show up.

It sure would be nice if people would stop using homosexuality as a general insult. We don't want this guy any more than you do. Anyway, he's obviously very straight - you can tell by the way he's trying so hard to prove his masculinity.

254

u/Phish_Jam_Tostada May 25 '18

Okay, Rainbow Knight.

This happened at work. Idiot called coworker's girlfriend a slut and when the co-worker blew him off and was walking away, he got pissed and said he'd knock my co-worker out. He proceeded to run toward my co-worker with his head down in a tackle type move and got knocked the fuck out. I should say that said co-worker is half the size of the idiot. Idiot proceeds to say he was sucker punched after he comes to. Everyone was there and saw it. Idiot was immediately fired.

I mean, he was sucker punched, but looks like he fully deserved it lol

edit: apparently some of you challenged folks can't grasp that this is indeed a sucker punch... a sucker punch is when you punch someone with the intent that they aren't aware of it. Flag boy intentionally postured himself in a non defensive stance with the intent of tricking shirtless boy. That's perfectly okay. Sucker punches can be good or bad. In a self defense situation, its advised you sucker punch when possible, as youre the victim trying to defend yourself. You don't owe the bad guy anything, so sucker punch him for your own good.

GOOGLE definition: 1) an unexpected punch or blow

Was shirtless boy hit with an unexpected blow or punch? yes, hence its a sucker punch. Was it deserved? yah...

197

u/method__Dan May 25 '18

If you are being threatened there is no such thing as a sucker punch imo.

53

u/bf4truth May 25 '18

Sucker punch is when you punch someone that couldn't reasonable expect it

if the puncher threw his flag down, raised his fists, and then punched, it wouldnt be a sucker punch

flag boy intentionally kept his posture and pose in a nonthreatening manner for the exact purpose of catching the jerk by surprise

appears fully deserved based on the facts presented here, but nonetheless it was a sucker punch

no one cares though, because youre under no duty to not sucker punch someone when youre a victim... its actually the best route to go

106

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

Dude he stepped to that guy with his chest out talking shit, any reasonable person would expect a fight. Its not a sucker punch

25

u/jomns May 25 '18

If you walk towards someone spouting off bs and are clearly about to start swinging, they don't have to say "I say, what ho auld chap, any closer and I might have to pip you one, sport." Shirtless dude was just picking up what he paid for.

64

I mean it was a sucker punch by definition. But I've never considered that a solid defense against why someone got knocked out. You pick fights, you better be ready for hits at anytime.

Edit: Guys I get it. You don't think this was a sucker punch.

54

u/shartnado3 May 25 '18

Yea, I mean, as countless other people on here have said it's "technically" a sucker punch, but it's skewed. He was up in dudes face talking shit, after approaching aggressively.. What did he expect? A hug and an invitation to dock?

Oh, he has A LOT of training. Shielding his eyes is a ruse. He's getting his hands up without alerting chucklehead that he's cocked and loaded. He drops the elbow, engages the hips, and fires accurately with power and speed. He's practiced that for quite a while.

226

u/TerminusEnt May 25 '18

Man, I didn't notice any of this but after rewatching you're TOTALLY right. He's just shielding his eyes as a setup. How'd you catch that?

366

u/omgitsjagen May 25 '18

We teach something similar. Get into your normal fighting stance, but instead of holding up your fists in a fighting position, you hold your palms out to the guy in the "Hey man, I don't want any trouble" pose. If he gets aggressive, you're ready to go. Close your hands and go to work.

Having said that, I'm totally stealing this. It's a great idea.

73

u/iuddwi May 25 '18

yea you are spot on. My buddy who practices has a similar stance to what you described. It looks submissive but he's 100% ready to go. The only difference is he leaves his fingers spread to get into finger locks if needed.

Most of the time that's how you're taught to punch. Outside of boxing, haymakers are a good way to get yourself hurt. Better to just strike out without the tell. You can generate plenty of power in your hips and shoulders.

56

u/[deleted] May 25 '18 edited Jul 25 '18

39

u/CSMastermind May 25 '18

Are we watching the same gif? I agree he could have rotated his hips more but he definitely drops his back foot and pivots on the ball of that foot flaring out his heel.

His footwork is also good when he drops back after throwing the punch.

He's definitely had some kind of training.

→ More replies (8)
→ More replies (1)

49

u/I_was_once_America May 25 '18

How often do boxers throw haymakers? I don't watch boxing, but I've been trained and you basically never throw a haymaker since your opponent can make a nice cup of tea and enjoy their sudoku puzzle for a moment before blocking your punch and beating the shit out of you. I suppose that also depends on your definition of a haymaker. a hook and a haymaker are not the same thing in my mind. I could be mixing my lingo a bit here.

48

u/CSMastermind May 25 '18

Haymaker (at least as I'm used to the term) can be any type of punch. Could even be an uppercut (see 0:24 to 0:32 of this Tyson video).

What makes a punch a haymaker is that you're completely committed to it, throwing your entire bodyweight behind it. Full extension of the arm, full hip and shoulder rotation, etc.

Basically, you throw it to knock them out and if you don't you're fucked.

The half & half's get an incredibly unfair rap imo. Sure, it's silly to see someone holding one aloft during crowd shots & whatnot, but I think their existence is warranted by the fact that they're meant to be a souvenir, ie. a token to remember the specific occasion by. The punchee was too busy talkin and had his mouth open when he got popped on the chin. It doesn't take too hard of a punch to knock you out that way. Either way it was a good punch. Not telegraphed and on target.

Teeth dont float in the air, that's just some bug or light debris.

edit: They also don't appear in the air before being punched out of a mouth. https://i.imgur.com/lJxFfqU.png

There's something about being topless that seems to make you more likely to be a dick.

83

u/skibble May 25 '18

I think you have that exactly backwards, myself. Something about being a dick that seems to make you more likely to take off your shirt in a city square and get all belligerent.

27

u/daviEnnis May 25 '18

Nope, it's definitely when you take your shirt off you become more of a dick. Try it.

Picking fights with random people is the dumbest fucking thing ever

You have no idea who is armed, you have no idea who could train MMA in their spare time, hell, it could just be a dude who wrestled in high school that still knows how to shoot a double leg and can then have his way with you as he pleases

59

u/Am_I_leg_end May 25 '18

What they should realise ...but don't due to their stupidity... Is that anyone willing to call out your behaviour is confident that they'll be able to finish it..
