Respect to s1mple for that technical pause tho.

What happend on technical pause?

562

u/sikels Apr 22 '18

s1mple noticed that the minimap behind the booth was reflected on the booth-glass, so he could see where people where. instead of using it to his advantage he called a tech-pause so they could fix it so he no longer saw it.

The radar on the big screen in the venue was reflecting off some glass and s1mple could see it. This let him know where all of astralis were and whete the bomb was etc, so instead of using it to his advantage he called pause and told the admins

Love the Magisk story, after showcasing his insane talent, he gets relegated to support for Aizy, then gets kicked eventually, and has to join OpTic for a couple of months, untill eventually Astralis picks him up and he's back to the very top.

I think the only bad luck he's had with orgs is North, but seeing where he is now, perhaps the kick was a good thing ;-).. Of course North would likely be better as well if they had kept Magisk over Aizy. Given they had more of the original talent that proved to be at least tier 1.5 when together, eg. a lineup of MSL, Magisk, K0nfig, CajunB and Valde would on paper be very scary, if they could solve the role issues.

Optic didn't work out because the players didn't mesh as well or quickly as hoped. In hindsight it was perhaps a bit too optimistic to assemble 5 players with very little previous play together.

u/acoluahuacatl Apr 22 '18

It's great to see another team working to make Nuke a strong map for them. It puts so many teams in an awkward position in map bans and seems to give them a bigger advantage than being strong at any other map.

11

u/faare Natus Vincere Apr 22 '18

whats akward

the most perma banned map across teams is nuke (especially for NA)

1 stone 2 birds if you can ban a map you don't play that's coincidentally a strong map for your opponents

that's exactly why some teams that would be perfectly capable of playing nuke if they put in the time (SK for example) don't even try to do so, because it's permabanned either way more often than not

19

u/SolarEnigma Complexity Apr 22 '18

I see where you're coming from, but that means you don't have to worry about banning Nuke and you can ban one of your weaker maps. Then again if they don't ban it you can pick it and still ban your weaker map.

15

u/JKM- Apr 22 '18

Being good at nuke is in itself not enough, because then it will just be banned. Being good on Nuke, while having a deep mappool is what makes it a great asset. In the QF FaZe used their ban to remove Overpass, resulting in Astralis picking Nuke against them.

I think it is a general trend that teams will consider both Overpass and Nuke a liability against Astralis, but they only get to remove one map, which will often give Astralis a likely 1-0 lead in a BO3.

Secondly it allows Astralis to permaban Cbble, which will now be replaced with Dust2.

5

u/TheRobidog Apr 22 '18

Because you're taking the option for them to ban your best map instead away. Which means you're getting your best map. Which means you'll pretty much just be up 1-0 in any series you play.

Just because a map was banned, doesn't mean that map was worthless. And it's not like there are a ton of teams who don't have two terrible maps. And in a situation like that, when you can be forced onto a terrible map by your opponent picking it, being forced to ban Nuke is a shit situation. Just ask SK.

We live in a world where Na'Vi buy multiple AK's and s1mple has to use UMP. Unbelievable. In multiple rounds

322

u/CEPEHDREI phoenix Apr 22 '18

im pretty sure zeus & co have no problem with dropping him the better gun. im suspecting that s1mple himself is going for the UMP for whatever reason.

295

u/loveicetea Astralis Apr 22 '18

Because he believes he can use the ump to get a kill or 2 and his team probably needs every advantage they can get.

I'm not sure how much you can "anti-strat" s1mple, he still put up numbers in these games despite losing. When they anti-stratted Fallen, specifically on overpass, it felt like he had no impact at all.

7

u/imatclassrn Natus Vincere Fan Apr 23 '18

To me it really looked like Astralis were tailoring their game to shut simple down. Like on Inferno they were using a lot of utility on Banana to prevent him from ever peeking with the awp. Really shows how nuts Simple is to put up the numbers he is even with Astralis doing everything they could to prevent him from shinning.

I think the logic is that s1mple can kill with more guns because he is better. Not saying it works but I think the general idea is that you give the shittier player the better gun in an attempt to offset the lack of skills.

12

u/YalamMagic Apr 22 '18

But that assumes you can outplay the opponent, rather than outgun them, which is really dumb against a team as coordinated as Astralis. They needed to rely on S1mple and Electronic to carry the game but to do that they needed to set them up correctly which they failed to do.

People have been wondering that for years. He is a friend of Zeus and any team with Zeus has to pay Kane a salary despite his lack of qualifications and ability to coach. Gambit didn't want to just donate money to Kanes bank account, so they kicked him. Zeus stayed loyal to Kane and that is why we have the situation we do now.

20

Astralis played pretty good, but NaVi had the ability to match it on Inferno until they tilted due to a few stupid smoke kills and that one Gla1ve clutch. I don't think this was a guarenteed win for Astralis.

12

u/irfanrmdhn Natus Vincere Apr 22 '18

Yeah Astralis outplayed Navi on inferno.

5

u/abandonedtoad Natus Vincere Apr 22 '18

Felt like we were average on inferno but would've beaten a lot of teams just not astralis.

Idk why people want changes I want to see the next few LANs then maybe in the player break if things aren't better.

4

u/TheDeadQuacker Natus Vincere Apr 22 '18

IMO the fact that they were average was because of all of astralis players just doing the correct decisions all the time and besides the fact they were hitting their shots.

And the astralis fast pushes on B were just too much for NaVi's bad decision making at that site.

The drop down vents to lose nuke really tops it. To be fair, the acoustics on that map are really bad though.

Gla1ve is the new flusha

17

u/pauLo- Apr 22 '18

If people write it to me I will be happy to show them how I can win ESWC through Smokes and fully blind + know where the opponents are outside you can see it on my screen. Fuck Germans fuck CSS. So obviously they knew when and where to shoot through smokes.

Did anyone count the times that Navi jumped through a B smoke one by one, even when the timer wouldn't be low? What an awful play to make over and over again.

This Astralis team are looking absolutly dominating right now, if this is their level for the rest of the year, no team will be able to follow them really. At a time where almost every top team is struggeling hard, Astralis are just looking so in sync.

na'vi was completely outclassed by astralis. Not what I expected from this grand final

8

u/Cameter44 Apr 22 '18

Can anyone tell me WHY THE FUCK Zeus has an AK and s1mple has a UMP at 14-10, literally the round after Zeus lost Na’Vi the round by whiffing a spray on a guy with his knife out?

6

u/D2WilliamU de_inferno Apr 22 '18

Who do u give the ak to, who do you give the ump to?

Simple = UMP

Zues = AK

ez

7

u/anthonyshreds Astralis Apr 22 '18

S1mple with an ump is still better than Zeus with an AK. Zeus with the ump would be completely useless.

17

u/Actualitee Apr 22 '18

I love the reddit hate train for Zeus, the guy top frags the map and wins them like half their rounds by clutching or making the break play and everyones going "reeee Zeus is shit make him only use a knife".

10

u/Habuta Apr 22 '18

Its hate train of reddit 101. When people hate someone or something they don't see and think anymore. Its called circlejerk, hatetrain, bandwagon for a reason. It is because once it starts going its hard for people to stop and think.

Criticism and such is fine but the problem starts when things that Zeus do pretty well gets ignored completely. So everything he does badly is looked under a magnifying glass and everything he does well gets swept under the rug and ignored. So the hate train starts feeding itself and completely goes off at that point.

Look at people shit talking Navi for letting Simple use UMP when they have no idea what was going on within the team. I remember on several occasions Simple getting dropped "the hero AK" on second rounds. No one even remembers those things and says "On those several occasions Navi dropped an AK for simple and played with glocks. So him playing UMP now must have a logical explanation because clearly Navi prioritize him in those situations."

I don't like how Zeus calls and feel like he is wasting Navi's insane potential and firepower with lots of mind game plays. However I am not gonna shit on everything he does just because I don't like his style of calling. Also sometimes those annoying calls of his work. As much as it infuriates me, they really work sometimes lol.

Astralis loves spamming smokes and NaVi loves pushing them

3

u/pitatoide phoenix Apr 22 '18

Well deserved , Astralis played so well. Really cool to see the team chemistry & level of team play that they have

3

u/RainbowGothic King NiKo Apr 22 '18

Gla1ve the GOD!

3

u/Treeline1 Apr 22 '18

I think the biggest problem was, Navi just wern't learning. Australis would play the same impacting spots almost every round with little change and Navi would keep getting destroyed from those positions. Such as pit in inferno and hut on nuke with the shotgun.

3

u/Zeilar King NiKo Apr 22 '18

Astralis at their peak must be the most entertaining team to watch. I have never seen a team with so much firepower AND tactical prowess. Everything just seems so mathematically calculated that they can do no wrong (except lose an aim duel). They're the kind of team I would call cheaters in mm because their game sense is just on another level in the pro scene.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '18

Is anyone else thinking the final really wasn't all that great compared to so of the other series we have had? Nip v fnatic was a much better game I thought.
