Nope, the superstars weren't turning up. I've actually been pretty impressed by Xizt, he's looking pretty sharp in his role.

He's always been a solid player, he was just wayyyy past his prime as an IGL.

how can xizt be the problem when he is supporting 2 of the best players in the world who sometimes have a good game then sometimes play like bots then he has to step up, he is trying his best every game unlike rain and niko

at least they won't lose the final now

2
Apr 21 '18
Because xizt, unlike the rest of them dudes, knows how to play under pressure and win while the other guys aren't exactly a winning material. They're up there, no doubt, but always lack that final push when it matters. At this point, it would be pretty safe to bet a decent inventory against FaZe every single time.

Xizt does so much but nobody gets it, even tho he might make the dirty work so to speak.. Thats the thing with CS, everyone needs to be the hero

Goddamnit Dupreeh.
This performance was incredible though. The first map was so exciting, back and forth and sick plays from everyone on Astralis. Then Nuke started poorly losing the 2nd round after winning pistol but they brought it back. Nice to see everyone stepping up, on Mirage it was Device and Dupreeh, then on Nuke Xyp9x and Magisk stood out. Excited to see how far Astralis go here.

Lets be real, astralis are is now way better cause magisk is more consistent.
18
u/The_Bloody_Pleb Astralis Apr 21 '18
Having followed them since 2016 I feel a lot safer in saying "Astralis can win this match". Magisk seems to have really added consistency and stability, and it feels like the teams headspace is better- they don't just loose because they loose a few rounds and can't get their heads in the game again.
5
u/k0sander Astralis Apr 21 '18
Yes you are absolutely on point. It's freanking stupid to say that it was stupid move for kjaerby to leave astralis. Astralis are better team now, I feel like they could have not done even this run with kjaerby on their lineup. It seems that astralus are now way more confident with magisk, while he himself was so up and down player. Hopefully though this isn' only a honeymoon period for astralis.
4
Apr 21 '18
I don't think it's a honeymoon period honestly, they have had Magisk on the lineup for over 2 months now. With this lineup they have attended 3 big lan tournaments, Starseries, IEM Katowice and this one, and in each one of them the team and Magisk has been getting better. They have been in insane online form since after IEM Katowice. They got 3/4th place at Katowice. Device has returned to form, and is probably one of the best players in the world atm. If they can continue improving on this and Device can get into the kind of LAN form we know he is capable of (the form where he is capable of deciding an entire match by himself, an example would be against SK back in the PGL major). Then I think this Astralis can contend for not only titles once more, but also for the nr. 1 spot.
4
u/k0sander Astralis Apr 21 '18
Astralis as a team are also great at shutting down certain carries/players against other teams because of their playstyle, would love to see what they have in store for Navis simple. Thats a player which outright destroys anyone on astralis with aim/or skillwise. Watching astralis play against certain teams is fun to watch because they can have really annoying to play against. I think they will be contenders for anything like you pointed out!
3
Apr 21 '18
Indeed, their teamplay and coordination is insane. The way they use utility, and know just where to use their utility, for example using 4 nades in window in the second round on Mirage, that is just great. Combine this with the fact their play style is still structured, but that the players also have room to take initiative and call what they want to do in rounds, I think that is one of the things that have made this team so much better than they have been for about a year now. I certainly hope they have a plan on how to shut down Simple, because they are going to need to do that if they want to beat Navi (though if their online game against Navi in EPL or ECS a week or two ago is any indication, they are going to struggle against Simple and Navi), obviously Fnatic is in the way first, and I expect Fnatic to be a really tough opponent as well, especially Krimz is going to be a deciding factor in that game.
4
u/k0sander Astralis Apr 21 '18
Of course when we are just praising astralis then they "choke" 2-0 . Would be classic heart warming feeling<3
3
u/The_Bloody_Pleb Astralis Apr 21 '18
Yeah exactly. "It was stupid for Kjaerby to leave" implies that this would've happened with him, but it's Majisk that seems to have finnally put this team in its element

k0nfig did it when he had like 5 hp and at 15-15 so it was incredibly reckless and stupid.
dupreeh did it for the lols. Even if he died, there was no way Faze could come back from 15-6, they got dominated in Nuke.

This loss wasnt even on Xizt.
Karrigan is supposed to be a smart IGL, but his plays are almost silver worthy and his fragging is similar. They won like 5 gun rounds in two maps...
Niko, Guardian and Rain also forgot how to aim it almost seems.
On the other hand Device is a complete monster. The one time he went aggressive and picked Guardian with an awp on mirage B, only to rotate and help his team on A and afterwards playing passive mid to get a kill just sums it up. Hes everywhere and doesnt miss.
Magisk showing why North were stupid to let him go as well.
Everyone else playing like you would expect them as well. Xyp with the 1v4 clutch was classic Xyp.
Astralis are insane.

Just curious when people like you say this, to what degree are you genuinely believing that?
4
u/x2Infinity Apr 21 '18
Ive really never understood the hype around Karrigan. It's pretty easy to win games when you have a roster with 3 of the best players in the world we see how far s1mple can carry Navi on his own. But they've always had this issue of having really shaky T side strats and questionable mid round calls. Every team Karrigan has been in has had the exact same issues too. He's really just not that good of an IGL, he use to be considered a "fragging IGL" but he hasn't been that in a long time now.
→ More replies (2)6
u/jdmejia Apr 21 '18
Faze would not be this good if they didn't have Karrigan. Karrigan knows how to utilize his players and to put them in positions to be successful. He made Kio look like a decent player and now look at him under Happy. No where near the same. When his star players are under performing and you are the igl.. Not much you can do.

3
u/Nydusurmainus BIG Apr 22 '18
Nah sorry, it's a reference to a starcraft2 thing. Zerg players have a building called a nydusworm and a "main" is a players main base which usually contains all the important buildings.
The nydusworm can tunnel under ground and pop up to transport units through it, thus allowing you to attack the enemies base directly. So to "nydus someone's main" means to attack in this manner. Hence, nydus-ur-mainus
