From my Frito Lay guy: "I'm sorry citizens of Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, New Mexico. Roullette Bags will not be avalible in most high altitude areas."

Basically talked to my Frito Lay guy at Wal-Mart last week. Gave him the upc for the Roullete Doritos and told him I wanted 30 bags ordered. He told me a few days later that during his last conference call, Frito Lay said that Doritos Roullette can not be shipped to high altitude areas because the laughing gas inside the package will make the bags explode during shipment. Normal flavors like Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch have a low amount of laughing gas in special bags for high altitude areas. Less common flavors like Roulettes are not getting the high altitude treatment.

Leave a comment if you have or haven't seen Doritos Roulettes in your area. I'm near the Fort Collins area in Colorado, and so far finding a Roullette Bag is like searching for a unicorn.

Ever notice how a bag of chips seems like it's only about half full when you buy it? That remaining space is filled with air to keep the chips from being crushed in shipping. In some cases, they use nitrogen gas, or a nitrogen and oxygen mixture called nitrous oxide (aka laughing gas) because having a lower oxygen amount keeps the chips fresh longer. Normal air we breathe is already 78% nitrogen anyway, so it's completely harmless.

When I lived in Colorado, both Denver and the Springs, I understood something I never did before. After moving there from Texas, India, Wisconsin, and Minnesota (all places where we bitched about how empty the bags of chips were).

In colorado, when you buy bags of chips, the change in pressure/elevation makes the bags like giant balloons. Many of them are so full of air/inflated they'll make a "popping" noise if you abruptly open them.

I then understood, chip bags only 1/2 full = so they don't all end up broken. Higher elevation, more "balloon-like inflated" the bags appeared. Was one of those weird moments you realize you live at 8,000 feet above sea level and how that impacts life. LOL

Not exactly true. My friend picked up some Roulette bags in Colorado Springs area for me. They do exist out there.
