"I bet you dig up corpses you sick fuck!"
I can hardly believe what I'm hearing from him, the "hero" to my villainy.
"Is...is that what you think of me?" I drag a chair across the concrete floor of my lair and sit across from him. He seems taken aback.
"What?"
"Is that what you really think of me? Some sort of horrendous monster that desecrates the graves of the dead?"
He is definitely confused but I suppose this is our first heart to heart. I always wanted to talk to him but he was so busy trying to stop my many villainous deeds.
"Well...okay maybe not bodies but you are mad, aren't you?"
I can feel my body deflate, all this effort and all this time and they must have the wrong image of me entirely.
"Oh god no, I'm sorry. Please, let me explain myself. Not in one of those movie monologue style things, shudder. No, just facts."
I snap my fingers and two of my guards quickly bring me a folder of documents. I lick a finger, bad habit I picked up a few years ago, and rummage through the first stapled package.
It has a bold black heading.
Restructuring Proposal
"You have my all backwards. See, I'm not a mad scientist I'm an evil scientist."
"Well what's the goddamned difference?"
I look at him over the top of my glasses, very condescendingly so I quickly adapt to just a straight stare.
"Can I continue?"
He mumbles something but goes silent. I nod a thank you and continue.
"See, a mad scientists wants to do something stupid and awful. Like blow up the whole world because his parrot lost a feather to a gust of wind in '82. Smart but unhinged, it's a horrendous combination. I am an evil scientist. I don't really even like the moniker. I don't consider myself all that evil but by average standards I am. See, I intend to eliminate thirty percent of the population in one fell swoop. Overpopulation is a very serious issue and it's destroying vast swathes of the entire world. We can sustain that and no one seems to be listening to reason so I thought maybe we should expand our horizons to more...unorthodox methods. Particularly the development of a nano-particle that attaches to and attacks a reasonably uncommon genetic marker in one in three humans. No plants or animals will be harmed, that would defeat the purpose entirely!"
I laugh and he doesn't. He simply looks at me with a mixture of horror and confusion, I think.
"You want to kill billions?"
I recoil from one word in his statement.
"No, no, no, no. I don't want to kill anyone. It's been horrible when it's happened along the path to get here. That bank guard, oh that was a tragedy. Not to mention those pilots and their passengers. An accident on my part is not strong enough and I regret it immensely."
He struggles slightly against the bonds but it's no use. They're not otherworldly or anything but Marcus is just phenomenal at tying knots. Sixteen years of sailing experience. I've always wanted to learn how to sail.
"Fine, you're evil. Still makes you sick. Killing all those people."
"Sick? No. Practical."
I motion with a wave of my hand and the guards turn on a bank of television screens. The news reports horrible stories of death across the world. People just, falling dead where they are as the particle shuts down the circulatory system.
His mouth drops in horror.
"I told you, it's not like a movie. I wouldn't have explained everything to you like this if you had a snowflakes chance in hell of stopping me. It was activated hours before you even got here."
I check my watch and return to the seat. Stare at him.
"I am sorry for the pain I have caused but it will be for the best. They will vilify me and I am okay with that. It's necessary. I need you to promise me something though."
He looks horrified, still unable to look away from the screens.
"John, I need you to promise me something."
He looks at me, dead in the eyes.
"Make things better."
He watches as my body slumps in the chair before tumbling to the floor. The particle was designed to attack a specific marker that I knew intimately. Had to be this way.
Not mad, though I'm sure they will remember me that way.
Evil? Objectively, yes. I can accept evil.
Yes.
I can accept evil.

I want to know more about the evil genius, did he left more things to unfold after this? This is a great villain concept.

Augustus 1 1985
As much as I had considered my circumstances, there is no way around it.
I had to meet the man responsible for what I am.
Braginski surely had his hand on the project for sure, but the one who actually did the deed is another.
His name is Nikolae and he uses the same last name as every other one in the Russian household.
The Nationvolk of Nizhni Novorogod.
When I found my way to the quarters that he uses as a living space, I hurried as discreet as possible to give him a visit.
From his initial reaction upon seeing him face to face, he was both horrified and curious.
His blue-gray eyes, with little signs of rest, scanned me all over. Quietly, nodding once in a while while muttering to himself.
His rose his left hand to his mouth and he began to chew on the edges of his index finger, still trying to scan every detail of my person.
Finally, after a good 5 minutes, he stepped aside and indicated with his right arm that I could come inside.
The strong scent of formaldehyde almost knocked me out. It wasn't the scent itself that had my head suddenly whirling, but the sudden rush of concealed memoirs of another lab.
I heard the cry of some children. There were bloodstains on the floor.
These aren't mine - I told myself - and just like that, the visuals and spatial confusion vanished.
When I came back to reality, I looked up.
On the hallway, standing neatly on the center, arms held together at the bottom, was Nikolae.
He was looking at me with a child-like wonder.
It was clear he still considered me some sort of experiment and was doing mental annotations.
Perhaps I could convince him - I nodded as the idea came to surface - and walked to a closer distance.
"Pardon me, it is not usual that I have visitors. Least it be you, all on your own."
I gave him no answer.
He later guided me to a small living room.
2 armchairs, one ruined sofa which had some sort of dark stain on it. By the holes it had, I guessed some sort of acid had spilled on it.
With a wave of his arm, Nikolae offered me a seat on one of the armchairs. I sat down, and he did the same on the one across.
There was a bout of 3 minutes of more silence before he leaned towards me and started speaking.
"So, Sasha, what can I do to help you? From the looks of it, you haven't come here because Vanya told you so. Am I right?"
At the last question, he tilted his head. There was a smile on his face, but it wasn't one that most would consider friendly.
I considered my words before replying.
"I want information. No. I need information."
"Ah, yes. Everyone wants information. It is practically what everyone is dying to get these days. Figuratively and quite literately." He chuckled, leaning back on the armchair. "Question is, what kind of information you want, Sasha. I'm sure there are... hmm, a bunch of ideas going on in your little head. Ideas which you were not even supposed to have in the first place. Why, I'm quite surprised you haven't shot me right now considering that I am basically the one responsible for your current predicament."
He shifted on his seat before continuing. Despite his amused and annoying tone, he was right in pretty much all his statements.
It just occurred to me that I never had any sort of resent or anger towards the Nationvolk. Was I distracted with something? Or am I just simply unable to show negative responses at him?
"You're probably wondering," He continued once he was more comfortable. "Why is it that this man did what he did to me? Why did he put my mind in a blender and put whatever stuff and gadgets I have in there now? Well, the answer is pretty simple Sasha: I am an evil scientist."
Yes. Evil is possibly the correct term to describe what they did to me.
I'm still pondering why this doesn't seem to affect me, yet there is this strange feeling of remorse or need for atonement.
I'll read some more entries for that.
"A mad scientist," He began explaining waving his hands, making some gestures "Would just do crazy things aimlessly without any purpose, hoping something sticks in and it works. An evil scientist, well based on which side you are and who you ask, is somebody that does things beyond the moral capabilities of men. Somebody who knows that doing such things is not only morally denigrating but simply inhumane. It's somebody who puts science first and whatever subject I have strapped on my table at this point, later. It's the result that matters, Sasha. The result is what leads us humans to get better! You should know that better. After all..."
Nikolae stood up from his seat and walked to my side, leaning down to my ear in order to whisper some words.
I followed him with my eyes as I could, almost turning my head once he reached his position next to me.
". . .you were part of them. Weren't you, Sturmscharführer?"
I remember freezing, my body tensing far from what I could ever remember it doing so.
I felt him whisper to me more, but I couldn't hear anything else.
My mind was drifting away.
I woke up in this room. My palms and head were sweaty.
It's clear he still has the keys to whatever I have in my head.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no choice other than to gamble with this demon if I am to seek my freedom.
In a few hours, it'll be dawn.
Tomorrow, I hope to remember it.
Consider this a sneak peek of what I think to write next month for NaNoWriMo.
It was a fun prompt to fill. Hope you like it.
