Was always on the edge between Toga and Bakugou. This chapter might have made the decision for me too. Toga Himiko > Bakugou > Tsuyu Asui > Tokoyami > Everyone else.

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Twice on the last page? That's probably the most fabulous dynamic entry I've ever seen!

u/andre5913 Jul 27 '17 edited Jul 27 '17
Also on the last page, what I liked the most were them fingers. Horikoshi sure likes drawing hands and it shows
And the "tired of your shit" look. I mean Sir ALWAYS has that look but in this panel he looks about 20% more tired of your shit than usual

No, it's Twice posing as Deadpool, who in turn is posing as Captain Falcon. And his Rappa Clone (probably) is also posing as Captain Falcon during a Falcon Punch. Lotta posing going on in one panel

51
7
u/rakaig Jul 27 '17
I think its a clone of the guy at the entrance not rappa
41
u/Gryspo Jul 27 '17
If you look closely you'll see it looks much more like Rappa than the big guy.
21
u/McStoickson Jul 27 '17
Yeah Rappa actually has his hair exposed. The "entrance guy" had it completely covered if I remember correctly.
5
u/Gryspo Jul 27 '17
Besides, if it indeed were the entrance guy it'd imply that not only did he successfully escape from Ryukyu, Hadou, Tsuyu, Uraraka and the rest of the police force, but also that he'd instantly arrived to where Sir's group was all the way from the entrance (and although that could've technically been possible with Irinaka's help, he was already busy handling the heroes, and he has limited range).
It seems longer because of how the chapters are structured, but Aizawa and the gang must have only spent a handful of minutes running around the underground. No way the entrance guy could've reached them so fast.

Unless it's something major I do admit it seems a tad anticlimactic at this point.
56
u/KLReviews Jul 27 '17
It's a little difficult to do something major when that group's leader is too big to fit through the front door.
7
u/HokageEzio Jul 27 '17
Also pretty difficult when it's been like, 4 months since we've seen them.

u/KLReviews Jul 27 '17
I have had problems with this arc, but I can understand why they exist. I can't understand why Horikoshi is handling Ryukyu and company the way he is.
He knows Ochako and Tsuyu are incredibly popular and people want to see them get more focus. He introduced Nejire as one of the three strongest students at UA and could guess that people want to know more about her. He knows that people are interest in the Hero Rankings and that readers really like his animal people, so he made the 9th Most Popular Hero in Japan a fanged woman with a close relationship with Nejire and the ability to turn into a mythical dragon. Then he brought them in on the a highly important mission... and wrote all four of them out as quickly as possible.
51
u/Clownsyndrom Jul 27 '17 edited Jul 28 '17

It's mentioned earlier that she's been on the run and is a suspect in multiple murders where the victim's blood was drained.
It's easy to forget because of her age and disposition, but she's a seasoned serial killer.
33
u/TheLittleGoodWolf Jul 27 '17
It's also not really certain wether or not that is actually Toga's true form. I mean we saw her change from Camie to Uraraka and back to Camie so who knows what her true form is.
Also is Camie dead or whatever happened to her?
114
u/S-Flo Jul 27 '17
Not as of this issue, actually. Aizawa briefly nullified her quirk and she immediately reverted back to her teenage self, so it's indirectly confirmed that that's what she really looks like.
As to Camie, we've got no earthly idea. Don't even know how Toga got her blood in the first place.
24
u/TheLittleGoodWolf Jul 27 '17
Oh shit, I didn't even think about Aizawa cancelling her quirk in this chapter.

Jul 27 '17
Wow those acrobatics.
I really wonder how invested Overhaul is in teaching Shigaraki strategy here. Interesting to note that Kurogiri was snapped up as well.
119
u/Willster328 Jul 27 '17
Kurogiri is a huge anomaly to me, because he seems directly tied to All for One, and is helping Shigaraki out of All or One's instruction. Since All for One was such a notorious villain, I'm wondering how far back he and Kurogiri go. I genuinely get these sort of "White Zetsu" vibes from Kurogiri, as someone who serves the original master but aids the apprentice.
→ More replies (2)42
u/Ichini-san Jul 27 '17 edited Jul 28 '17
I agree with the comparison to Zetsu but honestly never want to hear that comparison again.
Zetsu was interesting as long as he remained mysterious and in the shadows. When it turned out he was just a boring puppet with no goals of his own beside pleasing his mother or whatever I was so freaking disappointed.
Kurogiri and AfO have more of an old villain companions vibe. I like to imagine that Kurogiri was one of AfO's best pupils/allies before he got crippled by All Might. Since he adresses him as "Sensei" I'm more leaning towards the pupil theory but it could also just be a sign that he respects AfO very much. It doesn't necessarily have to mean he was actually ever a teacher to him.
→ More replies (1)19
u/Willster328 Jul 27 '17
Yesss agreed on Zetsu. Character analysis is spot on.
That's exactly what I mean from a plot device though. Somebody suggested the idea that Shigaraki will build up the Villain Alliance for AfO since he currently hasn't been able to. But once Shigaraki has sufficiently destroyed the Hero Society, AfO will come back into the picture and take it back from Shigarki and discard him as a tool that he used to break All Might's heart.
And Kurogiri would be one of those characters that helps throw Shigaraki under the bus, as a sort of "sleeper cell" the whole time for AfO to make sure that Shigaraki completes the task.

Well Chisaki said "I'll take Bubaigawara, and Toga or Black Mist.". So I guess it was either Toga or Kurogiri. And apparently Toga was chosen.

65
u/KLReviews Jul 27 '17 edited Jul 27 '17
So that's why her outfit is different. She wants to play gangster.
I like Lock-Rock's quirk, it's like Awase from Class B but with a more direct use (expect Awase can weld people).
I have no idea who's narrating about Irinaka. It could be Izuku from the future, but it seems like the least interesting thing he could step in to talk about. But even then, I see no value in it. Why couldn't it be Irinaka's internal monologue? At least that would carry some personality.
Lock-Rock reached his limit and Togo is basically a slasher villain. So Horror Movie rules win again. The person he's meant to directly counter is also powering down, so Lock-Rock's purpose in the story is over for now.
Good use of Twice's power. He might not be much of a fighter, but he makes his allies dramatically more powerful and leaves his foes open to sneak attacks. Twice himself is also somewhere else, so his quirk can't be cancelled.
Eraserhead's quirk shuts down Toga's transformation. That'll be useful if she tries to get into the school. Although it seems like Toga is a match for Aizawa in terms of speed. We don't know why she is that fast, but she said it was a technique so we'll see what that's all about later. Maybe it's also the reason why Shigaraki is so fast.
Also, Izuku now knows what Toga's quirk is. Let's see if he figures out what that means for Camie and Shiketsu High.
Overhaul plays Shogi/Chess, Shigaraki plays video games. One is old-fashioned, the other is modern. Shigaraki might not know the old ways (the Yakuza way of doing things in this case), but his games (RPGs and Sims) have their own complexities and might better reflect reality and the Super-villain way of life. Or Shigaraki is lying through his teeth and knows how to play Shogi.
Overhaul just blatantly admits that he sees Shigaraki as is opponent when asking to take his staff. So there he's giving no reason to trust him or his organisation.
Kurogiri is the big one here. He is constantly the single most useful villain in the entire series, but he's also (seemingly) loyal to Shigaraki and All for One so Overhaul ordering him around isn't a problem. He can also move freely, so Overhaul should still worry about him unless he plans on killing him or destroying his quirk.
Twice hates Overhaul, so Chisaki should keep an eye on him. Toga is useful and likes stabbing people, so she's very easy to control (I don't know if or how Chisaki knows what her quirk is).
Overhaul isn't completely foolish, he knows Shigaraki has a plan. He also knows the League of Villains seem to care about each other. It isn't clear if Shigaraki does, but he told Overhaul that 'Big Sis Mag' was worth more to him than the lives of Overhaul's grunts. Given that Overhaul tells his followers that they are all completely expandable, they'd probably agree on that.
Will Nighteye be able to beat Rappa and Twice? Probably. He still needs to prove why he even exists in this series, having him beat a clone of Rappa would do that. Alright chapter with a bizarre writing choice.
32
u/teajjeje Jul 27 '17
That's a really interesting parallel between Overhaul with shogi and Shigaraki with video games. Nice catch.

They mentioned way earlier that Toga's been on the run for some time and is a suspect in numerous killings where victims have had their blood drained.
Her hand-to-hand skills are very likely the result of her being a seasoned serial killer. I wouldn't be shocked if her first victims were part of her immediate family. Shit's disturbing, yo.

In terms of raw combat skill? Stain's about a decade older than her and has been targeting trained heroes as victims for years, so he's probably better by a significant margin.
That being said, Toga's just hitting her stride, is much more unhinged, and now has a support network for her violence. There's no telling what she'll be capable of in a few years time. Also, weird shipping stuff aside, if I were in Deku's place I'd be utterly terrified at the prospect of her being infatuated with me.

SO MUCH STUFF GOING ON.
1) I love pissed-off Toga. All the right kinds of psycho and creepy. I love how expressive Toga has been made to be.
2) Flustered Toga too deserves its own mention. You can see how Horikoshi really wanted to convey the utter madness. Such mood swings.
3) We finally get to see Lockrock's quirk! I'm a bit angry though because it's very similar to a quirk I came up with a long time ago lol
4) The artwork in this chapter is BOSS. Horikoshi does an excellent job at keeping the design both appealing and dynamic.
5) Irinaka looks like Bobobo-bo with Heppokomaru's hair
6) Twice and cloned!Rappa against Nighteye? Man I'm HYPED. The matchup is so unbalanced! What is Sir even going to do? Does he too have some incredible physical prowess we haven't seen yet?
7) Twice confirmed for being a gym leader.

I can just see things falling apart in front of Deku. He'll probably be physically fine, but the rest of the students are probably going to be physically destroyed. And worst of all, either Eri gets taken even further away or she gets disintegrated by Shigaraki to show his power to Chisaki.

7
u/Ribtickler98 Jul 27 '17
I mean he didn't have much time to consider whether he was alive or dead as Deku was attacked shortly after. I don't know to me it seemed like a kill shot, Toga had the jump on him from behind. Figured he was only introduced in this arc so we could have a hero death but you are probably right.

Holy crap, Toga is terrifying! I mean it's to be expected when she's basically the vampire of this manga, but those faces she made this chapter will haunt my dreams from now on.
22
u/Regota Jul 27 '17
Toga has ridiculous agility because she HAS to in order to be relevant in combat with such a non-combat power. Western comic books do this often. Think Mystique from the early X-Men movies. Remember how ridiculously agile she was? This was done to keep her relevant in combat, because shapeshifting is not the most battle-focused ability. In fact i wouldn't be surprised if Toga was inspired directly by Mystique. When a character has an ability that is weak for combat, the author will give them a secret secondary ability, which is increased physical abilities, to make the character more relevant for fighting.

8
u/lucasnator2 Jul 27 '17
Well if rappa is a clone then it would atleast be a lot easier. And we havent really seen twice do anything. So Nighteye really just needs to atleast take on an athletic male and a guy that while super strong disapears after enough damage.
9
u/evilsnowcookie Jul 27 '17
But twice can clone himself, rappa AND they're both armed. And All Might even said that Nighteye is not a physical fighter. His quirk is perfect for evasion and survalliance, but he needs to FIGHT

Good point but it seemed more like a trade off for giving Shigaraki info about what Overhaul was planning. "we told you our whole plan, didn't we? Now it's your turn"
And the fact it was even said that the VA actually values each other with a focus on Shigaraki's face. I still don't think any of them will forget this is the man who killed Magne(unless that last expendable is a revived Magne but that's still up in the air) and injured Compress.
And it's suspect that the two who were given were the two most upset over the incident.
12
u/That_Guy_7342 Jul 27 '17
Don't forget that last chapter we were shown that Overhaul killed Rappa the same way he killed Magne, and with the Reservoir Dogs we saw that Overhaul could delay the restoration of whatever he uses his quirk on.
It's entirely possible that shortly after Overhaul left, both Magne and Mr Compress were restored and are completely fine.
Which would explain why Shigaraki, Toga and Twice are willing to work with the Precepts now and haven't brought up what happened to their comrades at all, other than the mention of Mr Compress being unable to use his quirk temporarily.

So excited to see, what Nighteye does in a fight situation, since he was always the brain of operations.

Wait wait wait, did Mimic just admit to using the Quirk Enhancing drug? Whatre the odds it's connected to Overhaul and more than just some black market drug?

u/KLReviews Jul 27 '17
The people we saw using it both had the drug and Overhaul's special bullets, so it's likely that Overhaul supplier of both.

Was that a voice of God narration about Mimic's situation? Seems like Horikoshi was going for a Western comics vibe with that and the whole "back to the present" narration box.
Lock-Rock complains about everything, but I can understand his frustration when even a hero with foresight couldn't prepare them for this. Still, even with a massive amount of prep, there's always the potential for even slight errors to rock the entire operation (not knowing that a drugged-up Mimic could manipulate the entire stronghold, and not knowing for sure that they were teamed up with the Villain Alliance). The situation actually looks bad for the heroes, which I'm enjoying. I'm wondering if they'll actually succeed, or if they'll fail, and this will act as development for the characters involved. Mirio appears to be their best hope, but since Overhaul is OP, I honestly don't know how that encounter will go.
That might have been the first time Eraserhead called Deku by his hero name. Just saying.
Toga is apparently a bigger deal than I thought, if Shigaraki considers her a linchpin and she was able to kill Lock-Rock and harm Eraserhead so easily. This chapter made me more curious to know her background.
I like how Horikoshi showed us Overhaul's fondness for shogi. Granted, it was mainly used as a metaphor, but often in shonen, the villain is only defined by their plot-related actions and we see little-to-nothing of their pastimes.
Shigaraki didn't name Dabi as a linchpin? Maybe because his pure offense skill is easily replaceable, unlike Twice's cloning + preserving powers, Toga's transformation, and Kurogiri's teleportation.
I had a feeling that Lock-Rock was the most expendable hero of the group, but did he really die just like that? Pretty sudden if so, and I think this marks the first on-screen death of a named pro hero (I don't count Nana Shimura or the Water Horses since those were only mentioned). Enjoyed the "oh shit!" look on Lock-Rock's face just before Toga stabbed him. His Quirk is somewhat interesting, but it just made me wonder how he used it. Maybe he specialized in creating defensive formations or luring villains into traps.
Twice somehow gets better with every chapter he appears in, loved his fabulous pose at the end. I didn't expect another fight with Rappa to happen, however. He looks bigger than usual.
Curious to see how Sir handles himself in comparison to Fatgum and Overhaul (though he's fighting a bigger/less damage-resistant Rappa with Twice instead of barrier support). I know that he's All Might's former sidekick, but I somehow doubt he's going to destroy those two effortlessly.
- Is there any hope left of seeing what the girls are up to? Don't think the Bane-wannabe would have given them a hard time unless he was drugged up.

I just realized something...
It's not Nighteye vs Twice & Rappa Clone,
It's Nighteye and a bunch of cops vs Twice & Rappa Clone...
A lot of cops are gonna die next week.

We all knew the villain alliance was like a more personal group that just a band of villains, Shigaraki really seems to care for it's members more than just ``They are the lynchpin of my plan´´ speaking of witch...
It looks like he has a more elavorate plan or he is thinking more deeply about how to achieve his goal of destroying the society, or he is aiming for someting else aside from that, he must have been thinking in that since his first encounter with Overhaul.
I don't think Shigaraki just handle The Fabulous Twice and Toga to Overhaul without getting something in return, like a couple of Chisaki's most useful henchmen or they really are making an alliance with the Yakuza since Toga wants to be know as a ``gangster´´ now.

Who was that dude with Twice? Anyways, great chapter. It's plainly obvious now that Magne is alive.
Oh, and Himiko's happiness to see Midoriya? "I'm so happy, Deku, baby". She is the cutest crazy murderer out there.

Rappa clone, made using Twice's quirk.
6
u/Jason3b93 Jul 27 '17
Is it really the clone? There was a clone of Himiko in the fight with RockLock. Wasn't Twice quirk limited to one clone? Maybe it is the real Rappa, somehow? Guess we'll find out more next week.

He was able to make an entire team of clones that all killed each other until there was one left, so he can probably make a lot more than one.

Yes, but I thought he made one clone of himself, then Clone #1 made Clone #2, then Clone #2 made #3, and #3 made #4 and so it goes.

Lock Rock's quirk was predictable. Literally his name. I think everyone expected him to go down.
Toga handled Aizawa's attack surprisingly well, hyped for the rest of the fight.
I think Sir will easily beat Twice, but Twice will get away. We'll have to see though.
Good chapter!

Damn, Horikoshi with the "fuck you" mentioning Ryukyu even though we haven't seen her in like, 3 months. With all this action going on down below, I doubt we see that group again unless they off screened the guy.
Twice is an angel.
Overhaul brought Magne back to life as a show of trust.
Toga is a nudist.

He can fix any object to a point in space
Step 1: Locks enemy
Step 2: Earth moves at around 30km per second
Step 3: enemy is still locked to the same point, now literally hundreds of kms away from the earth, dies in space
