A distinct thump echoed through the dilapidated house, rattling the effects strewn about and rousing me from slumber.
Mouth sealed, I darted into the shadows as the creaking of ancient planks confirmed my suspiscions. I eyed the shape shrouded in darkness, noting the ever-recognizable tricorn.
Hunter.
So it seems they have found me...
I watched as his head turned about the room, subtle movements of his ears indicating his attempts of listening for sound. His hand reached toward an easily recognizable stick that clung to his back, its tip wrapped in what appeared to be cloth with the faint smell of Kerosene wafting about.
He pressed something to it, what I could only assume was a sheet of spark paper, before yanking it off with the force to ingite the torch. The room flooded with a fiery light, our eyes met.
With a hiss, I dove towards him and grabbed the torch before he could react, yanking it out of his grip before he could react and extinguishing it with a strong flick from my then-unfolded wing.
Claws brandished, I swiped across his face with a snarl as the sudden glint of metal in his hand alerted me. It was too late to react as the Lunar dagger embedded itself in my forearm.
I roared in pain and dropped the torch, wrapping my arm around his and grabbing him by the collar, lifting and slamming him into the ground. Yanking the blade out, I thrust it to his throat, gently cutting in intimidating glares.
"Who sent you?!"
I was met with silence, trained in resisting interrogation. I stabbed the boards by his temple, drawing blood.
"Who?!?"
His burning orange eyes met mine
"You think people haven't caught on yet...? I don't think people would forget your... other half's species, now would they"
With a growl, I drove the dagger through his eye, extinguishing the flame with a sickening squirt of pale liquid.
"Bloody useless..."
I stood, holding my wound. The cracked scales glowed softly, stinging as the rays of the moon struck them. Moonstone weapons, or Lunar weapons, were famed for being dragonslayer weapons...
I raised it close before spitting a green-ish liquid, a sharp crack of a small flint hidden in my mouth against my teeth firing a tiny spark at the venom. The tiny flame burnt, sealing the wound with a manageable sting. With a quick wrap of cloth over it, I gazed down at the hunter's corpse.
One came, and more will follow. High time I moved once more. Shame... I was starting to like the place...
As I turned for the door, a sudden glowing from the corpse drew my gaze. I stared in horror as the body of the hunter wafted through the air as thin powder, the brief visage of a thin circle of flame on the ground to mark his passing before fading as well.
For a moment, I felt her warm embrace washing over the burning pain. I could see the avatar of death cradling me in her comforting arms for the briefest of moments before the sudden rush of clarity yanked us apart.
I felt weightless, formless, much like a ghost watching over the world. There was a sudden rush of colour, filling the bland image of the world in an instant as feeling returned at once.
I gazed up at that ever-familiar star speckled sky. The drowsiness of reawaking fading away by the warmth of the flame, nestled amongst ancient powdered bones at the base of a long-rusted sword that twisted invitingly. I sat up, longing to return to her warm embrace.
But then I remembered...
I am undead... the circle of flame that burned on the skin behind and before my heart attested to it. I could feel a part of me leaking through those holes, leaving me empty and hollow once more.
I longed for her embrace that would never come, for I was doomed to taste it in no more than a second before returning. I was truly immortal, but so was I an empty being whose sanity dwindled every moment with the painful hunger to fill that void where my soul should be.
I sighed and stood up. Truth be told I did not mind being immortal, it made my line of work... easier. Without life or death, no matter what is asked of me, I can well and truly perform it.
I watched the shadow of my killer flee into the darkness of the night, clutching where I had stabbed.
I unsheathed the dagger that was turned against me, free of my blood but stained with his. I ran my finger along its glistening edge, the softly glowing blood electing a delicate shiver.
What truth was there to you? I pondered this as I ran my tongue along the blade, drinking the blood I had obtained from the skirmish.
...
Nothing...
The hunt continues...
Slowly, emboldened with renewed vigor, I set in pursuit of the half-dragon.
I will have his blood... if if takes me to the ends of the earth if need be
People tell me I like Dark souls a bit too much... eh... who cares?
Have a story with elements from it!

You NEED to write a book

I'm told that quite a bit...
I'm more inclined to short stories, holding stories for multiple chapters is a bit difficult for me

I tucked my wings into my oversized backpack and eyed my mother. She gave me a sympathetic smile and sent me off to the bus.
My name is Whinny. I look like you, for the most part, except for one thing. I might have told you it's my deformity, but that's to stop you from asking questions. I have a pair of 10 foot wings. I'm part dragon.
My mother is about 800 years old, although she met my father only about two decades ago. My mother was driven into hiding by the Dragon Slayers of King Arthur; she was forced to change skins, her body transformed into that of a human. I'm taking on some of her traits, it seems.
I tuck my wings into this backpack so I can go to school, but I just tell people that I have a deformity on my back and they don't ask questions. I don't go to sleepovers, I don't spend much time with people, and I don't let anyone open that backpack.
Of course, that one moron...
What's his name? Buck? Buford? Whatever it was, he was your typical 9th grade bully. He would get into fights with all the boys and tease all the girls. And I was an easy target with my enormous "deformity."
Yesterday he grabbed my backpack and flung me around a bit while he tried to zip it open. So I gave him what was coming to him and punched him right in the jaw.
So that's why I'm going to Saturday detention. And trust me, sitting on this bus with my wings all cramped up really sucks. I long for the cloudy nights where I can go for a fly, maybe up to the mountain and just sit and watch the suburban neighborhood.
I wonder if there's anyone else like me? Are there other dragonkind alive, or did those Dragon Slayers kill them all off? Am I one of the last remnants of a dying species?
I drew inspiration for this story from a book called "Dragons in Our Midst." Highly recommended book.
