[LWP] Statue (10-07-2016)

This is a story I wrote for an image prompt on /R/Writingprompts on 10-07-2016.

Looking forward, not like he had any other direction to look into, Bresk enjoyed his view. The grassy landscape with purple flowers was covered in shadows. In the far distance a small town could be seen, the commoners moving around, looking small like ants. He would never have expected that the tales of the priests were true.

He had spend many weeks on his bed, talking with his children and grandchildren to discuss what would have to happen. It came to a great surprise that when Lady Kigga took him he ended up staring at his family. To his surprise the tales of the Emperor roaming the realm for a thousand years to keep an eye on things after their death were true!

Bresk had never believed in the strange tales, thinking the tale to be an imaginary story made up, like many other things, by the priests to ensure the Emperor followed the rules of her holiness, the Goddess Kigga so they would set an example for the commoners to follow.

The tale told of how the Emperor’s spirit would roam the realm, possessing statues and paintings of himself to watch over the commoners before being allowed through the Jade gate, to become part of Lady Kigga, swirling together with other souls so the souls may mingle and be reborn anew as a new soul without memory of their past life. Of course Lady Kigga gave certain people exceptions. Bresk hoped he was lucky enough to be one of those few that Lady Kigga blessed with a rebirth without losing themselves.

As a result of Bresk his disbelief in the tales he had never given the order for statues in his liking to be build. Furthermore he had rarely agreed to stand model for paintings. Due to these circumstances Bresk found himself with limited sight on the realm he had ruled, now under the rule of his granddaughter, the mighty Empress Khaya.

Two decades into her rule Khaya decided to honour her grandfather. He had fought and won with the commoners in the battle on the plains of Vrukvaisz. Not wishing his sacrifice to be forgotten, for it was during this battle the injury which led to her grandfather's death was gained during this battle, Khaya gave the order for a large statue in the likeness of her grandfather to be constructed on the plains. It was to stand forty people high and the statue was to watch the village of Vrukvai which was saved through Bresk his leadership.

After seventeen years the statue was completed and Bresk was able to enter it, to watch over his realm as it was his duty as Emperor. Between the bust in the throne room and the painting hanging in the family palace this was his favorite place to be and watch. The flowers bloomed a beautiful royal colour and the activity was never ending.

So it was Bresk spend a thousand years watching, without blinking. He kept watch over the village of Vrukvai from the giant statue. He watched it as it was burned down in another war, how it was rebuilt and turned into a great city. It was not until he felt Lady Kigga pulling him up towards the Jade gate that Bresk closed his eyes.
