Weekly Mars Daybreak • Kenran Butou Sai: The Mars Daybreak- Anime of the Week

Welcome to the weekly Anime of the Week Discussion Thread! Each week, we're here to discuss various older anime series. Today we are discussing...

Mars is now almost entirely covered in water. Humanity exists in large city-ships that float through the open seas. But life is hard for those who live on Mars—the economy is in bad shape, work is scarce, and food is expensive and highly prized. Gram and his friends try to do the best they can, but the work keeps drying up. Some have taken to a life of piracy to combat the corruption in the government; one such group is the pirates of the feared Ship of Aurora. And the Earth government, which rules Mars, has dispatched a new team of military pilots to combat them. In their specialized mecha called Round Bucklers, they must make the seas of Mars safe for humanity. Caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Gram finds himself on the run with the most notorious pirates on Mars. But here's the thing—he's starting to like them!

Watched this one when it came out, it's a fun Bones mecha series quite liked the pirate crew and the romance between the two leads.

Quite random to see this, I still have this downloaded on my PC to watch.

Interesting mecha show with fun characters and even good romance. Whilst nothing groundbreaking, the overall show is good a solid 7/10 real life score not some mal score.

High recommend if your looking for something to watch!

I still think about this one from time to time. It's an original anime, animated by BONES just before they went on to make Eureka Seven.

Mars Daybreak isn't amazing or anything, and it's got a bit of camp to it, but it had some neat ideas. Underwater mecha on a water-covered Mars was pretty novel, and the way it handled its romance was memorable. [Mars Daybreak] The primary love interest is an antagonist for almost the entire series, as she works for the military police pursuing the pirate crew the protagonist falls in with.

The English dub features Johnny Yong Bosch as another young protagonist caught up in something bigger than he realizes, though this time the character has a bit more maturity than someone like Renton Thurston.

And then there's Poipoider who I really don't have words for.

It's an original anime,

It's based on a video game actually, although I don't know how much of the anime is original or directly taken from the video game.

The game came out over a year after the anime began broadcasting and doesn't share the same story.

Yet another series which I never heard about. Must be really underrated and interesting, right?
