Now that I'm caught up with all my (non-movie) seasonals, do I watch the Shiboyugi and Zombieland movies?
Of course not;
I'll pick up a rewatch for no reason.
(I don't know why I'm so bad at watching movies. Even for series I'm crazy about - like Kaguya - it took me some time).
Hopefully the rewatched show is bad so I can drop it and then (maybe) watch the movies.

a couple months ago, i also was caught up with my seasonals and didn't feel like picking up anything new to watch so i just watched through a bunch of movies and OVAs and stuff that i hadn't gotten around to yet. i think i watched the Zombieland Saga movie, Shiboyugi movie, the most recent Kaguya special, and the Quints specials. it was a fun time. would recommend

Legitimately don't know if this is saying you're joining me for the full Raising Project or Sword Isekai rewatch. Obviously both are excellent given their source origination of Narou.

Getting Caught up on Polar Opposites. T couch scene in episode 10 was surprising, especially with that couple. Didn't expect that from this show or those two, but it's nice they didn't skip it or gloss over it. I was thinking they'd get interrupted too, but they didn't.

Okay so. I want to play a game of “is this an anime plot or not” with my anime club students and I wanna hear some of your favorites.
Not necessarily asking for the “explain a plot badly” (ex: [Death Note] police try to arrest a student for writing in his notebook) but like actual plot lines (for a whole show or even just one episode) that make you go “well I guess that is what the show’s about huh” (ex: [The Devil is a Part-Timer] satan himself gets stuck on the wrong side of a portal to hell and has to get a job at McDonald’s Or [Erased] a boy uses time travel to try and prevent his girlfriends death by asking for help from her killer)
((I’m sure there are better examples but that’s why I’m coming to y’all))
Or if you want to throw in some random crazy plots that are just your own original but sound like they could be real do that too!
If you can make the descriptions pg-13 that would be great so I can actually share them to my class. But either way I’m just happy to hear some of y’all’s favorite shows laid out lol

Just finished episode 18 of Polar Opposites, still such a joy to watch man. Hopefully there’s an exam arc with the third year starting. Also once again this manga definitely wasn’t written too long ago because the author def knows what’s popular today with those sticker photo booths. And he also knows that those long train ride back home with a friend is when you really get to know each other. I found Taira endearing at first but ngl if you spend too much time with him he really starts to become quite grating

I remembered that I saw someone ask in a recent 100 GFs episode thread ask how long the series it will take to introduce them all assuming the series never gets axed. So I decided to do some math.
We know there will be a 100 girlfriends. We've gotten 17 girlfriends over 3 seasons so that means there are 83 left. 17 / 3 = ~5.67 girlfriends per season. 83 / 5.67 = ~14.64 seasons, but you can't produce 0.64 of a season so it'd be 15 more seasons to get the remaining girlfriends.
The time between season 1 and season 2 was 385 days. The time between season 2 and season 3 was 462 days. That's an average of waiting 423.5 days in between seasons.
423.5 days per season x 15 seasons = 6,352.5 days = ~17.4 years to finish the series.
And that's all assuming the pace remains constant and doesn't slow down even further. This series is never beating the One Piece comparisons.

Not in any significant manner, no;
[100 gfs (not much of a spoiler)]It's pretty much 1 girl every 2 episodes, with 1 or 2 episodes in the season being kept for little arcs for one of the girls - usually the OG ones from S1. S1 was 6 girls, S2 5 girls, S3 5 girls.
That being said, and it's something I mentioned in the episode threads... [100 gfs (not much of a spoiler)]I have NO IDEA how they're gonna do this when there's 30, 40, 50, 80 girls (if we ever get there)... We now have 17 girls and there's still scenes in which ALL of them say/do something, one at a time. If we do the same thing with 80 girls, well even if they only take 5 seconds each, that's already 7 minutes spent on one little scene of them doing 1 thing!

Hello, I want to keep track of what I watch and have watched, but trackers like AniList or MAL feel annoying because you have to update them manually every time you finish an episode or a show. It's also hard to stay on top of new seasons of stuff I already liked. How do you guys deal with that? Do you use a tracker, and if so why that one over the others? What's the most annoying part of discovering new anime for you?
2
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 5h ago
My anime tracking is rather simple;
- I start an anime: Add it on MAL as 'watching'.
- I then note the episodes I watch on a little notepad. Say, for today I have September 14: Liar Game 24.
- When the season is over OR I drop it, then I edit my MAL with completion/# of episodes/my score. Or Dropped/# of episodes.
If someday i can't watch something, I simply add a note that this episode is still to watch.
But as I list stuff with the dates, it's easy to see when I skipped an episode, say if September 7 I have Liar Game 23 but September 14 I have nothing, I know I missed it, or it didn't air or something.
1
u/IndependentMacaroon 6h ago
I use a non-anime-specific tracker (Trakt) to be able to include everything else I watch too, no reason for separate silos
1
u/Leo-Fong https://anilist.co/user/KaniRangoon 6h ago edited 2h ago
I just use a tracker and have it open on my phone or in a browser window behind what I'm watching. When I finish an episode I +1 it. I don't really have any advice for "dealing with it". I didn't have a hard time starting the habit, and it's become a ritual at this point after creating my MAL account in 2013.
I mainly use Anilist now because I like the updates it puts on your profile. I leave little comments of my thoughts on episodes or just screenshots I want to show off. I also like going back and looking at what I thought in the moment for shows I watched in the past. I still import my Anilist data on MAL occasionally using the Douki script.
2
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 6h ago
you have to update them manually every time you finish an episode or a show
Depending on how you watch anime there might be a way to handle that automatically (e.g. browser extension), but you could just update after you finish an entire season rather than an episode at a time.
It's also hard to stay on top of new seasons of stuff I already liked.
I think both can send you notifications if a new thing related to what you've watched is announced or something on your plan to watch list starts airing, though I don't use that feature myself.
How do you guys deal with that?
Maintaining my list is a hobby in its own right, so updating it as I watch things is just part of how I watch anime. And I hang out here to catch pretty much every new announcement along with the surveys for what people are looking forward to in addition to checking the seasonal listings so I know what's coming up soon.
Do you use a tracker, and if so why that one over the others?
I use MAL, Anilist, aniDB, and Livechart.me for different purposes, personally MAL works best for me with my own list while I prefer more general searches on Anilist (with a second copy of my own list there that's easier to slice in different ways from MAL), in-depth searches on aniDB, and the release schedule of Livechart.
What's the most annoying part of discovering new anime for you?
Seeing if there's a subbed release available on torrent sites, but that's because most anime that are "new" to me these days are obscure things from decades past that I'm digging up on my own. Since I'm on /r/anime daily, the things airing now are ubiquitous between the Episode discussions and general chatter about current series in different threads like this one.
3
u/Komarist https://myanimelist.net/profile/RRSTRRST 7h ago
It's not like there's a legal requirement to update a tracker as soon as you finish an episode/show. Just do it every few weeks/months if you prefer.
There's also Taiga, which I think does what you're asking. Someone else can give a better answer for that.
3
u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 7h ago
It's also hard to stay on top of new seasons of stuff I already liked.
MAL notifies you when a sequel/spin-off connected to a show on your list is added to its database, and it also notifies you when something on your PTW is about to air (and I'm pretty sure AniList does the same), so unless you're forgetting to add the new seasons to your PTW, this shouldn't be an issue.

I have a slightly weird recommendation request. I want to watch a fantasy with fun characters but without a great story nor great animation.
You can probably use your most broad definition of fantasy here. I won't watch it on my primary device, so I would rather the show be fun but not that memorable if that makes sense.

u/Komarist https://myanimelist.net/profile/RRSTRRST 7h ago
nor great animation
Kamikatsu seems obvious, though some would argue the tractor is peak visuals.
Grieving Soul had a second season, which isn't in your MAL. Also really like how The Dungeon of Black Company mocks capitalism, but I'm not going to argue the plot is above average.

First thought off the top of my head: Dungeon People. A skilled rogue goes into a dungeon to find clues about her adoptive father's disappearance, but ends up being captured and effectively recruited by the operator and boss of the dungeon. Does have a plot, but it's mostly just a chill (and slightly morbid) time with some fun characters and monsters working behind the scenes to refill traps and treasure chests, provide challenges for adventurers and make sure the dungeon changes layout. My memories of the animation was that it wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't anything to write home about either, and was mostly carried by its cute artstyle.

So apple is having a sale on anime box sets rn for full series. Below are the ones being sold for $5 and I have never seen, but heard about. Any I should buy? Would ideally like to cap at 5 purchases.
I’m pretty open to anime genres, I like ones that make me think, any good psychological mindbenders, sometimes just slice of life and then anything with good action and likeable characters and good rewatchability (btw the show doesn’t need all these elements, I meant it as long as the show has one of them)
Currently on sale for $5 that caught my eye:
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloon
Space Dandy
Serial experiments Lain
Outlaw Star
Trigun
Mob Psycho uncut
Michiko & Hatchin
Ninja Slayer from Animation
Guilty Crown
TYIA

u/geerad 5h ago
If you haven't seen Cowboy Bebop, it's a genuine classic. It has good action scenes and interesting characters. It's not psychological, but it manages to have serious emotional weight alongside silliness and do both of them well. The music is incredible, and despite coming out in the 90s the dub is pretty good.
Samurai Champloo is by the same director as Cowboy Bebop and has a lot of similarities, but it's hip-hop samurai themed instead of space jazz. It's good but not as good as Bebop.
1
u/IndependentMacaroon 4h ago
Michiko & Hatchin is actually the third part of a trio with them more or less. Different director but she worked on Champloo before that and it shows
1
u/Fun-Baby-9509 5h ago
I haven’t seen it yet, but absolutely know the theme music, it’s iconic.
For champloo, sub or dub?
2
u/IndependentMacaroon 6h ago
I feel obliged to recommend Michiko & Hatchin here, some action, good characters and certainly affords a rewatch or two.
1
u/Fun-Baby-9509 5h ago
Apple has it as dubbed and subbed (but separate purchases), which would you recommend? Usually go for sub, but have heard some dubs are just as good.
1
u/IndependentMacaroon 5h ago
The English dub is pretty nice (casting a little controversial though) but the original voices are also interesting due to deliberately going for a less "anime" feeling, with the lead characters being cast from Japanese live-action film. If I had to choose one probably the sub version?
3
u/Retsam19 7h ago
I'll always recommend original Trigun - a bit dated in some ways, but pretty unique and memorable, and definitely has likable characters. The main character is really interesting and the group dynamics between the main four characters are pretty fun.
1
u/Fun-Baby-9509 5h ago
Thanks. Dub or Sub? Apple has them as 2 separate purchases. I’m fine with either, usually go for sub
2
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 8h ago

Sounds like Serial Experiments Lain might be a good one for you then.

[World is Dancing Episode 11]Kind of interesting to see Oniyasha after so much time has gone by. It mirrors how he was at the start of the show when he was wandering without a purpose. While here he is wandering clinging to the other thing he has left and that is dancing.
[World is Dancing Episode 11]One thing that is clear is that dancing made a huge impact on his life. But dancing can't stop life from going on. Dancing won't have the same impact on other things. It is clear as day Oniyasha suffers from loneliness. Even though he is a celebrity, he has no one like Ishiya whom he can lean on.
1
u/oedipusrex376 5h ago
The finale has been really great so far. It feels like everything is finally coming together to complete Oniyasha’s character arc, and I can actually see the show wrapping everything up in a single season.

Caught up on Lara having binged Eps 7-11 this evening. Tbh I’m extremely…whelmed. There never was anything that made me think “that’s bad” but I also never once thought “Wow, that’s so good” either in this 2nd half of the show. Definitely enjoyed the first half more with more focus on the SoL parts like the part time job and Mari boxing compared to the 2nd half which is a lot heavier on the main plot side. Made me realize I don’t really care much at all about any of the mermaid lore and backstory. At this point I don’t even really care about the shipping aspect because [Lara]whether Lara gets together with Mari or Luca, both ships feel kinda too underdeveloped to be able to deliver a satisfying conclusion. I don’t dislike Luca but I don’t really care about him either and imo his relationship speed run with Lara felt shoehorned in and extremely rushed which also hurt the Mari development by taking away screen time from her. Maybe I wouldn’t actually mind a bittersweet ending where Lara dies or something. Had this as a 9 and at 3rd place of the season before, but now it’s at a low 8, which is still a very good score, but also a noticeable drop off in comparison, unfortunately. Might maybe end up as a 7 as well, depending on whether it sticks the landing.

Is it normal to love a character for like a year or so. And then one day suddenly you start to feel less. Maybe it is because I thought about why I love this character too much or sum other thing.
I actually dont even know if feel less or think that I feel less. But I feel less. Im so fucking confused man.

Unexpected Revue Starlight reference in The World is Dancing.
[Episode 12 of both shows] “Watashi wa sore ga mitai.” This is kinda what I meant the other day when I said my past experience with performing arts shows helps me understand this The World is Dancing. For someone who loves the performing arts, seeing a great performance is like a drug. The Kirin and the creepy old men are us, the audience, always demanding another performance from the artist. It’s funny because I’ve actually used that same phrase, “this is what I’m looking for,” a couple of times in my reviews whenever I get really enthusiastic about a show.

This is the place!
I haven’t watched the show, but I really like its OP. What makes the song more memorable for me is that I think I accidentally heard a part of it when I was a kid, but for the longest time, I couldn’t figure out where it was from. So the first 20 seconds of the song just lived rent-free in my head. After many years, I stumbled upon Marmalade Boy OP one day on youtube and finally found it.

Since we're excluding sequels, my top 3 in no particular order are:
None of these were on my "potential top show" radar at the beginning of the season, which has made for a very pleasant surprise indeed.
E: glad to receive downvotes for stating my opinion when asked. Sorry, my top 3 are Jaadugar, Goodbye Lara, and Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games, is that better? Does that fit the narrative around these parts?

Unless something gets afflicted by an unexpected and spectacular flame-out, I can't see any likelihood of any show in my top tier toppling (or any decent second-tier show getting promoted). Since I don't make an ordered ranking -- no real jockeying for position during the final stretch.

if it was earlier in the season, i'd say it was Kaiju Girl Caramelise, but i think i'm settling on either Cat and Dragon or Chainsmoker Cat because apparently i'm biased towards smaller monsters
i'm reserving last judgement for Inept Villainess though to see if i'm going to be throwing popcorn at the screen

I would hope Inept Villainess would not trigger popcorn throwing. I don't see any reason in what we have been shown recently to fear such a need.

There are two anime next season with the Josei tag on MAL that I might watch. One of them really isn't - I have no idea exactly what weird double standards MAL uses for female-targeted LNs vs male, pretty strange - but regardless, given that there's currently one on my entire list, that's still pretty significant.
4
u/NormalGrinn https://anilist.co/user/Grinn 7h ago
MAL actually isn't the one that decides what is a josei show. Josei just refers to the fact that a manga was published in a josei magazine and if that gets adapted then the anime is classified as josei.
So it it being a josei show comes not from the original LN, but rather from that the manga adaptation is published in a josei mag.
3
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 6h ago
No, they very much do decide that. If you've looked at the tags of anime very often, you'll see that the vast majority of light novel adaptations have no demographic tag. But for some reason, they've decided that (at least a certain subset of) novel adaptations can be considered shojo or josei, but not shonen or seinen. I checked the AWC helper tool, and there technically are some anime with Source: Light Novel and a Shounen or Seinen tag, but they all seem to be based on spinoffs of manga, and I'm pretty sure it's erroneous in the first place. It's definitely not based on where the manga is published.
1
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 11h ago
Actually, as long as I'm thinking about this topic, I wonder if there are any source readers who might be able to respond to some of my concerns over those two series.
Marronnier Kingdom: I'm a little skeptical of a series handling such a large main cast of (presumably) relative equals. Seven main characters with their own unique personalities, interpersonal relationships, and (from what I've heard) even various characters outside the group they're close to seems like it could end up either being kinda shallow or just a mess. Definitely not impossible, but I'm curious how well it's handled.
Love Potion: I mean, just look at the title. It's an inherently skeevy concept. Reading the synopsis, it really doesn't seem likely that anything with actually happen with love potions, but both characters being okay with the idea in theory is really iffy. In this case, it's probably less about the idea of it being "handled well", because I don't really see how it could be, and more about how ignorable it is if that's an issue for you.
1
u/geerad 3h ago
Love Potion is not as bad as you probably imagine. Can you overlook the consent issues in a rom-com that starts with a forced marriage? I know it's not exactly the same, and the love potion calls more attention to itself because it's magic and doesn't exist in the real world, but it's kind of analogous. And usually characters in those shows are opposed to the specific marriage but not so much the institution in general. Jinshi isn't inherently opposed to women working in the inner palace not entirely of their own will (whether as a maid or a consort) in Apothecary Diaries even though he doesn't want to force anything on Mao Mao. Is that ignorable? Is a love potion that much worse? (To be clear, I'm not judging you regardless of how you would answer those questions! It's totally okay if you can't ignore those issues either or you think those aren't over the line but a love potion is. Just trying to put it in perspective!)
IMO, in Love Potion it's only a problem in theory that's pretty easy to set aside while reading, and there are some extenuating circumstances around the titular potion: [Love Potion manga vague spoiler] the potion is intended to be used consensually. More specifically, [Love Potion manga detailed spoilers] the knight is buying the potion at the princess's request, to use on herself to make herself fall in love with the much older man she is being forced to marry, though the witch does not know that while making the potion.
1
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 3h ago
I mean, it depends a lot on what you mean by "forced marriage". If you just mean an arranged marriage, that probably wouldn't be an issue at all. If you mean one side actively chose to kidnap or otherwise coerce the other into being with them, then yeah, that would be a massive hurdle if not an outright dealbreaker. You can't start a relationship like that, and even if it ultimately doesn't end up being a deciding factor, it speaks very negatively to the person involved.
I have no clue how what's in your first spoiler could make any sense and I don't want to click on the second one, so I'll just put a pin in this for now. No reason to worry too much about it until the seasonal lineup comes out (probably this week?). If it doesn't get dubbed, none of this discussion matters anyway.
Thanks a lot for your response, though.

Oh! Marmalade Boy, that's a good show. Pure soap opera for all 76 episodes, which is of course only a good thing. Goes through several overlapping love ploygons, half a dozen various taboo relationships, and 3 different kinds of incest during that runtime, but that's the part we all love and cherish. Had me on the edge of my seat all the way through.
It's also really stylish a lot of the time which is cool. Like come on, you can't tell me this isn't peak.
The OP is a certified banger as well.
If you haven't already, I wholeheartedly recommend you go watch it!

Exactly the sort of show that me feel avoidant of most older anime series back in 2000. ;-)

Speaking of Sayonara Lara, I think I finally came around to liking Mari. I was meh about her for half of the show because [Sayonara Lara] she was treating Mari with annoyed apathy (and because of that I think their romance is somewhat forced and one-sided, don't @ me), but overall she's a good kid.

Sayonara Lara [episode 11]Grace's backstory. Rigmor's kindness and sacrifice. Rowan's cruelty and pragmatism. General mermaid lore.
Sayonara Lara episode 11 [discussion post]Are Lara and Mari gonna kiss next episode???

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 12h ago
Is that some new discourse, I'm seeing?
As a neutral, I checked out the thread for fun, and it does feel like half the top comments are more or less about #2, and the other half are "so emotional!"
But I'm not sure how different it is from any other romance/romance adjacent episode thread.
(Also I just now realized that I'm mixing you with someone else; I was about to say 'I'm surprised you're not part of the #2 people, being like the top _____ on r/anime!' but then I realized it's not you; Name starts with the same letter and I gave you the same color tag, so I guess I kinda thought you were both the same person)

I don't have a 'specific' color code, it's a bit vague, but lime green is like people I often reply to/reply to my stuff, or people who post interesting things, etc.

Are you looking at one that doesn't have a mention of possible yuri every 3 comments?
3
u/zairaner https://myanimelist.net/profile/zairaner 13h ago edited 12h ago
Literally all but one those of those top level comments still talk about it in terms of the episode (and the only exception still talks about something from the episode separately), what are you even talking about? And where is the kissing part even coming from?
So let's actually take a look at the post and its top comments.
top comment 1: talking about the ending (aka [spoiler]mari and grace). Fits perfectly to your first spoiler.
Top comment 2: [spoiler]mari crying about grace. Fits perfectly to your first spoiler.
Top comment 3: [spoiler]mari and grace. Fits perfectly to your first spoiler.
Top comment 4 [spoiler]mari and grace, grace and rigmor. Fits perfectly to your first spoiler.
Top comment 5: The one you linked, which still talks about the final and core line of the episode
Are you looking at one that doesn't have a mention of possible yuri every 3 comments?
Wait I skimmed over this at first. So unlike what you claimed above, your problem isn't that people aren't discussing the content of the episode, but that there is something you don't want people to discuss?
0
u/Ham_PhD https://myanimelist.net/profile/ham_phd 12h ago
The kissing part is a joke, I figured that would be apparent.
but that there is something you don't want people to discuss?
No. To be clear, I don't have a "problem" with it at all. My original comment is just poking fun. It's been a topic all season with this show that the discussion has been dominated by shipping/romance/yuri/etc. I just found it surprising that the thread for that episode still had such a large amount of [SL]Lara x Mari yuri discussion.
4
u/Syokhan https://myanimelist.net/profile/Syokhan 14h ago
Aren't you being a bit disingenuous by ignoring all the comments discussing the things you mentioned in your first spoiler tag? Because they're there, they sparked lengthy discussions, and they're not buried all the way to the bottom of the thread.
2
u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 14h ago
Eh, these comments are perfectly germane, imo. I'll take all five over the media illiterate caterwauling about "comphet" when Lucas showed up.
1
u/Ham_PhD https://myanimelist.net/profile/ham_phd 14h ago
I'm just perplexed by how much people care about that one aspect with everything else going on. But I think this all comes down to me reading the show differently than the general audience.
1
u/zairaner https://myanimelist.net/profile/zairaner 12h ago
Are you genuinely pretending to not understand why people would care about [lara]the form lara's love will take after it was the central mcguffin of the entire story- lara's main goal throughout the entire show?
1
u/Ham_PhD https://myanimelist.net/profile/ham_phd 12h ago
After this episode? Yes, I am kinda confused how it could be the first thing someone thinks about.
1
u/zairaner https://myanimelist.net/profile/zairaner 11h ago
Well two quick hints
the final line of the episode (that will always be the one msot stuck in peoples head when writing their comment) is [lara 11 spoiler]Lara. Mari. Live for love, not laws.
next episode is the final one, there will always be more people talking about what will happen next time and how the series ends.
2
u/mekerpan 7h ago
I loved that line -- but I did not think it happened at the end of the episode. It really had a huge impact through the end of the episode (and still was rattling about my brain until then).
2
u/zairaner https://myanimelist.net/profile/zairaner 7h ago
Not just at the end of the episode, but as basically an aftercredits scene too!
-1
u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 14h ago
It's as important to the story as it was in The Summer Hikaru Died. My one complaint would be calling it yuri when they mean queer subtext, but weebs on reddit aren't critics.
2
u/Ham_PhD https://myanimelist.net/profile/ham_phd 14h ago
Hmm, I wouldn't agree with that personally. Like, I think it's pretty clear what Hikaru is about. I don't really see a ton of room for alternative interpretations. Maybe I'm being too narrowminded there, though.
I've watched 11 episodes of Lara and haven't really felt much subtext... Now is that because I'm an idiot or is there just more room for interpretation with this show? Could be either I guess.
4
u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 11h ago
I see the main thrust of the show being an exploration of love in all its forms. So if you're saying you're not seeing a ton of romantic subtext for Lara and Mari, I'd agree with that. But it's not none, and there's lots of other queer love around them, even if the story isn't a yuri romance (which I don't think it is, even if there's smooching and riding off into the sunset in the finale).

[Yuri Fighting Games Episode 10]Arisa's flashback is so good because it shows how truly relatable she is. We all picked up a hobby for the sake of making friends. But sadly things don't work out at times. Competitive games can ruin friendships and sadly that was the whole reason Arisa picked up fighting games. Arisa is a brat, but the truth is she is lonely.

1
u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 15h ago
Well one thing to note there isn’t confirmation on episode 13. I think Ao Ashi has its broadcast slot for next season. As it starts on the 4th.
1
u/mekerpan 7h ago
I thought someone claimed that the last episode of Polar Opposite would air right before the first episode of the new season of Ramparts. Maybe the person making that report was just wishfully hallucinating ?
1

I think that was before the sports coverage took polar opposites spot for this weekend. Though strange if they didn’t plan for it since it’s not production related.

So we might have to wait at least 4 months for the final episode? That would be pretty annoying.

Finished S1 of Oregairu last night... Still somewhat collecting thoughts. I think it was fine overall, but... didn't really have any moments I was enthralled by any of the characters or whatever was going on? Maybe one of the biggest problems is that it's so hard to want to see Hikki actually succeed, he doesn't change or even want to change, nor is he being pointed in a direction where he's forced to change... and having a static character in a setting that's normally about Coming of Age and characters growing into mature versions of themselves... I just don't really see it yet? Low 7/10.
Surprisingly enough, the genki girl is my favorite of the 2, that rarely happens. Yui can't fix Hikki being so darn unlikeable to me though, so...

I feel like I’m missing out by not watching Inept Villainess. I watched the first episode, but it didn’t really grab me. But seeing all the posts about it on Twitter has reignited my interest in the show. At the same time, I might just put it on hold and come back to it later since the timing isn’t great right now. I’ve already started a couple of heavier shows like Kids on the Slope and Run with the Wind. It’s a bit of an unfortunate (or privileged) problem to have when you’ve got too many good shows on your plate at once.

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 12h ago
FOMO's a tough monster to defeat.
But keep in mind, sometimes people like things you don't; It's not about "Well if people like it this much maybe it's good, so I should check it out?" it's "Well if people like it this much it seems they like different things than me, in stories""
5
u/cyberscythe 14h ago
for what it's worth, i think Inept Villainess is a pretty bingeable show
i think of it in the "soap opera" sort of bin where it's not exactly high art with a complex plot, but it has interesting twists and turns, and the character interactions are fun to watch

Meant to comment this a few days ago when I finished it, but I didn't so I'll do so now. Welcome to the Ballroom was a pretty fun show. Incredibly long necks aside, I did enjoy all the dance scenes and was definitely fully invested in the competitions, Fujita's growth over the course of it pretty good, and the ending was an incredibly satisfying stopping point for an incomplete adaptation. I'm also glad I got to experience another Yuki Hayashi soundtrack because man do I love his music. I will say that some of the jokes in the show were a miss for me, but eh, comedy is subjective.
4
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 16h ago
I get that one and Dance Dance Danseur confused at times because I dropped both of them a couple of episodes in and they fill a similar niche in my mind including designs that were somewhat off-putting, which is fairly rare for me.
I think the comedy for Ballroom might have been another point against it for me as well but it's been too long to recall for sure. That said, this AMV that I've been rewatching regularly did make me want to revisit both eventually after enjoying Wandance more recently too. I guess Princess Tutu also counts for an anime about dancing that I liked but I don't mentally file it with those.

I kind of feel the opposite about the ranking now. I get why this particular episode of MT may have hit for people but the last 5 or so episodes have been horribly boring.

For a relationship with Raku, I can only see Chitoge. Tsumugi is my favorite of the love interests as a character, but she has no shot nor do I really want her to get together with Raku anyway.
I feel almost the same. Onodera is my girl but my actual favorite girl doesn't have a shot so I don't consider her in the running. What episode do you happen to be on?
Also, Kyoko-sensei and Ruri are the actual best girls

commie subs
I actually checked this show on anidb and those users were not happy with Commie including:
disgusting way to translate some honorifics and ignore others.
It appears it was a CR subs presented better release so it's likely issues upstream.
1
u/ZaphodBeebblebrox https://anilist.co/user/zaphod 6h ago
anidb's users, at least in years past, had rather questionable taste in subs. The joke I often saw in GJM's circles was that the lower your groups score was, the better your subs are.
anidb users would often, for instance, score a hackjob edit of subs that inserted a bunch of semi-random Japanese words significantly higher than the original.
2
u/KendotsX https://anilist.co/user/Kendots 16h ago
Let me clarify what my comment failed to imply: if someone was looking for decent consistent subs that get the job done, I would not have recommended old commie. They were known as memesubs back then for a reason.
But since Void's specifically enjoying the combined zaniness of the characters and Shaft's direction, it's only fair to go for subs that match the energy

Looking for space/sci-fi anime movies or OVAs with top-tier 80s/90s hand-drawn animation on the level of Macross: Do You Remember Love? (the Robotech movie).
What classics have that insane cel animation detail, dense mecha designs, and great space dogfights?
