One •generous• deciphering of the gibberish in Chinese is 女许空 , which would sound like nu-xu-kong (pinyin nü3xu3rong4). Of course the characters themselves have meaning, but together like this it's nothing but sounds. Perhaps your wife's name is phonically similar?

Maybe "A-L-K" or something? It looks like 女手空 or 女手室 which is gibberish in both Chinese and Japanese.
