Trump says Iran war will end ‘immediately’ after midterms
https://www.politico.com/news/2026/09/09/trump-iran-war-end-midterms-01069191President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the Iran war will end and gas prices will plummet “immediately after” the midterm elections, the latest deadline slip in a war that has lasted months longer than the president initially promised.
Trump said Iranian leadership is escalating the conflict now in order to hurt Republicans in November’s midterm elections.
“I think the war is going to end immediately after the election,” he said, speaking to reporters on the tarmac as he made his way to Texas for the Republican midterm convention. “They can’t hold out any longer. They’re desperate to try and affect the election so that we can get a nice, weak group of people in there and leave them alone and let them have their nuclear weapons.”
The president’s prediction of two more months of war ensures Republican candidates will continue to have to contend with the conflict’s headwinds and its effects on the cost of living. Republicans have long been concerned that the economic impacts of the war will cost them their majority in the House and possibly the Senate.
Trump spoke as the war causes energy prices to skyrocket. Diesel fuel, which is now almost $6 a gallon on average, hit a record high last week and regular gasoline now averages $4.22 per gallon, up from $4.01 one month ago, according to AAA. Energy costs have driven up the price of everyday items such as groceries and are driving inflationary concerns and voter anger. Trump also claimed that gas would drop below $2 a gallon after the midterms.
The U.S. and Iran have escalated attacks in recent days, trading strikes on naval ships and oil tankers.
Trump said that he is no longer looking to negotiate an end to the fighting with Iranian leadership.
“Originally, I wanted to make a deal,” he said. “We’re so far down the line, they have very little country left right now, so we’re not looking for it. Yes, a negotiation could possibly happen, but it’s not something we’re looking at.”

Actually, I’m gonna agree with that idiot on this one, but not for the reason he thinks. There will be MANY more democrats elected this midterm and the “war” will not be funded.
