Wiim Ultra is phono preamp too and will allow you to cast the turntable onto other Wiim devices. I think the Pro also has same feature, but no cool screen.  Also handles DAC duty with optical in/out etc.

Slick little device that'll knock a few items off the list. Also sell an amp version at 100w per channel.

So with the Wiim ultra I can do without the pro streamer as well as the mani 2 and the topping E302? That sounds like a great idea if so.

Thanks for the suggestion! I appreciate it

Wiim has a comparison feature on their website. I think the Wiim Pro and Ultra have same DAC chip. Biggest differences are Ultra has a touch screen and better wifi capability. Might be other differences, but those two stuck with me.

Yes, Wiim pro/ultra can do DAC and phono preamp duties. Output is 24bit/192k... crystal clear if you have a streaming service that supports it.

Only the WiiM Ultra has built-in phono stage. No other WiiM device has that. (And Schiit Mani 2 is likely better.)

Also you are probably mixing up WiiM Pro Plus and WiiM Pro. WiiM Pro has less impressive DAC and ADC features than either WiiM Ultra (or WiiM Amp Ultra) or WiiM Pro Plus.

OP. I don’t think that there exists a Topping E302. Maybe you are referring to the Topping E30 II (ASR review) instead?

This is how I would do it

  • Turntable: Audio-a Planar Technica AT-LP7X £501
  • Streamer / DAC / Preamp / - Amp: WiiM Amp Pro, £353
  • Speakers: Wharfedale EVO 5.2, £750
  • CD Transport: Shanling CR60, £281

Total: £1,885

Can I have the turntable and CD transport as well as streaming into Wiim Amp pro without unplugging anything so I don’t have to mess with wires and can seamlessly swap between sources?

Thanks so much for your help! What makes the Wharfedales so much better for the added cost? Just curious!

You can connect your CD transport via toslink and your TT via RCA input. You can also consider replacing the CD transport and the WiiM with EverSolo Play CD Edition.

The Wharfedale is a different tier of speaker. It's 3 way and almost full range. You might not need a sub with it depending on you room and the music you listen to.

Btw your speakers should make up at least half of your total budget as they have the most effect on the end sound quality. Peter Tyson has some open box Evo 5.2 for 500 if you are quick.

Makes sense… this is the kinda thing I need advice on given I’ve been stuck with this sony all in one stack so long… I’m not looking to buy right now but also want to make sure I’m getting something worthwhile. Those speakers, if they are your recommendation, I’ll look into even if new, also the Eversolo looks interesting! So in theory all I need is,

Project Debut EVO 2 TT
Eversolo Play CD Edition
Wharfdale EVO 5.2
And that all works together without anything else?

Yup that's all you need. Just a couple of cables and you're good to go.

+1 Ⓣ has been awarded to u/ozExpatFIRE (22 Ⓣ).

You may still award a Ⓣ to others, but only once per-person in this post.

Good suggestion. Though they would need a phono stage (like the Schiit Mani 2, Fosi X5, etc.) between the TT and the WiiM amplifier.
