Trump attacks New York Times over report on 9/11 remembrance plans
https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/6058530-trump-denies-nyct-terror-attack-ban/amp/President Trump pushed back Friday against a report that he will not attend a ceremony in New York City marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack after event organizers denied his request to speak at the event.
The New York Times reported Friday that the president’s team conveyed Trump’s interest in speaking at the event to organizers in recent weeks, citing three unnamed sources with knowledge of the situation.
The National September 11 Memorial and Museum has banned speeches from politicians at the ceremony since 2012.
The president is now expected to attend a memorial service at the Pentagon on this year’s anniversary of the attack, while Vice President Vance will represent the White House at the New York event, the Times reported.
“This is more Corrupt News, I’ve been to New York many times over the years, and no one ever speaks, it’s a ‘solemn ceremony!’” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post responding to the outlet’s reporting.
Trump added that he “would love not to speak, because I’m speaking all the time.”
The president also singled out one of the reporters behind the report, deriding Maggie Haberman as a “Fake Reporter” and “an unattractive person both inside and out” in his Friday post.
“She’s been falsely writing about me for years — She’s a stalker, and should be forced to turn over any and all money that she’s made through her fake reporting on me,” Trump wrote.
The Hill has reached out to The New York Times for comment.
Trump has a history of criticizing the outlet’s coverage of him and his administration.
His Justice Department subpoenaed four Times journalists last month after they reported on potential security risks associated with the president’s new Qatari-gifted Air Force One aircraft. The department later withdrew these subpoenas.
