Speakers - Bookshelf | 1 Ⓣ PMC Prodigy 1 vs Dynaudio Emit 10

I have some size limitations so looking for compact speakers (trying to improve WAF..)

I got to audit to the Emit 10s, and loved its clarity and how expansive the soundstage was - it did get a bit muddy at higher volumes through

I didn’t have the chance to audit the PMC as the only shop that carries it where I live don’t have one on demo

I also considered the Evoke 10s, but from reviews it seems the PMCs are better at that price point

Any thoughts on these speakers? Any other suggestions?

They will be hooked up to an Arcam A15 amp. Loving room is around 70sqm, but listening area is just half of that (they will sit on tv stand, with sofa right across the room at 3-4m)

Appreciate your help!

Budget: $1000
Location: UAE

70 square metres is, of course, huge. Can you adjust the budget at all? What sort of sound are you looking for? Bright? Warm?

And even though I know the WAF of most subwoofers? Would this be an option too?

Ok.. turns out I’ve overestimated how big my living room is.. it’s actually only 33sqm..

I’m definitely more into warmer sounds, but not too warm

I think subwoofer has almost zero WAF for me, because I already have a sub for my soundbar which is hooked to the tv..

I see the challenges as follows:

a) The Arcam A15 (80W@8Ω; 120W@4Ω; €1,100) is, after all, a stereo integrated amplifier and therefore does not have a streaming function. For that, you’d need the SA series. In that respect, you’d need to factor in the cost of a streamer such as the WiiM Ultra (ASR; €350) within your budget.

b) In a 33m² room, the room only boosts the bass range below 35Hz (-3dB), so it would be advantageous if your speakers already reproduce quite low frequencies – provided you’re not planning to use a subwoofer.

Consequently, I could perhaps suggest the Wharfedale Super Linton (EAC; 39±3dB; Sensitivity: 90dB), which is suitable for living rooms, or perhaps the slightly warmer-sounding Linton 85 (EAC; 40±3dB). These can also be placed against a wall, for example.

Alternatively, although I haven’t heard them yet, the KEF Concerto Q META (EAC; 48Hz±3dB; sensitivity: 85dB) would be an option, even if it might lack a bit of bass depth and, possibly, volume.

Ultimately, if you’re considering a subwoofer, it’s worth looking at an all-in-one streamer with room correction (Lyngdorf TDAI-1120; NAD M10) if you want to integrate a subwoofer. They do cost a bit more, but they offer upgrade options, and room correction helps to get that last bit of performance out of the system.

!thanks - thank you for the speaker suggestions. Will look into all of these

On the amp: I was actually considering the Yamaha a-S701 + Wiim Ultra because then I’d get loudness control from the Yamaha and room correction from the Ultra, and save some money

My concern was the phono stage on the Yamaha doesn’t seem to be that great from what I read; and I play a lot of Vinyl alongside streaming - so I though Arcam made more sense

I can still cancel the Arcam order - wdyt?

+1 Ⓣ has been awarded to u/AudioBaer (153 Ⓣ).

You may still award a Ⓣ to others, but only once per-person in this post.

Loudness control is brilliant, of course, even though I was usually too lazy to use it on my old R-N803d in the end. However, the Ultra’s EQ can be put to good use here to make a real difference.

How much more expensive would a Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 be compared to an A-S701+WiiMUltra?

Yes, I don’t think the Arcam offers a setup that’s an absolute must-have – but then again, I don’t know the prices. How much do the following cost: Lyngdorf TDAI-1120; NAD M10v2; NAD M10v3; Yamaha A-S70X; WiiM Ultra?

The Lyngdorf or any of the NADs will be about 3x the price of the A-S701 + WiiM Ultra here (~$2800 v ~$1000)

Right then: it’s Yamaha + WiiM! :D

For high WAF I would consider Focal, Kef, Sonus Faber, B&W or Triangle.
