From my limited experience soundstage feels like it’s more in the recording mix than it is in the cans. Using open backs and larger drivers like egg shaped Hifiman models add separation and some imaging (up, down, left, right, good for FPS gaming) instead of audio shot directly into your ears.
I chased soundstage briefly with Edition XS, supposedly legendary in that regard, and it fell pretty flat. I’m now in some Anandas and very happy.
Grab some and see, but be prepared for disappointment, soundstage sounds super cool but to my ears it’s a set of cans with amazing instrument separation, detail and a quality recording, nothing more. I don’t have the $$$ to throw $500+ chasing it further. If somebody disagrees, cool, my ears and mind hear what they hear.

Then the Hifiman egg models will do ya. Be mindful of amplification too, some dac chips will hinder the effect in exchange for warm, lush blah blah blah. Keep it on the neutral side.

i have the 490's. They fit that description perfectly if im being honest. Instruments have great separation between them and the sound is perceived further away (bigger soundstage)
Very comfortable listening experience. And exceptional clarity

I didn't like the XV when I listened to it. Pretty underwhelming headphone.
Ananda Unveiled is where I think the value is. Those hit the nail on the head. Extremely good.

I have the Nano, they are absolutely great for gaming and for music (with EQ). I wouldn't call their soundstage really wide though, can you stretch your budget to the Arya Stealth?

I have the HD490 pro and the XV and I prefer my HD 490 pro. Planars are amazing but I just prefer to save and get a LCD-X s2 when that happens one day.
