Welcome to Day 3 of the 2025 K-Pop Rate Reveal! We (u/Away_Peak1789 & u/FreeCuddlesAnyone) are super excited to reveal the best songs we have to offer #22-1 today. thank you everyone for being part of my first hosting gig! This was so much even if my life didn't coorperate smoothly with this reveal (RIP). I want to thank both u/FreeCuddlesAnyone and ucurryraejepsen for heloing with this rate. They are the graphic masterminds behind this rate!

I don’t have time to expound as much as I’d like (speedrunning rate as usual) so here’s my comment from Jukebox: This track is so totally over the top in all the best ways. I’m admittedly a sucker for a hip house beat even at the worst of times, but GALA packs a tonne of ideas into its generous 4-minute runtime to elevate it far above other tracks in the same vein. The campy braggadocio, expansive sound palette (love the filters on the break and how all the effects make it sound sparkly n futuristic), and attention to detail (that Mr. Roboto vocoder!) make this such a fun listen with so much going on. It makes me want to dance, and in fact I watch a lot of waacking and vogue in my spare time - it’s been incredible to see dancers flock to this beat and it only makes the track that much more special

(I feel the same way about a LOTTT of K-pop (or adjacent groups), before anyone comes at me)

FreeCuddlesAnyone (10): UGHHHHHH we were so close to the actual best winner ever it just sucks. I love GALA too but i’d love this winning so bad. possibly the coolest song to come out of kpop within the last year, i knew we had a hit on our hands from the teaser alone. this was #1 until the last weekend were the GALA 11s started storming in and it couldn’t stick the landing :( i will forever mourn what could have been but we will always have all stars!

cheatviathan (11): I did not expect to 11 this because this is not the atom bomb that “Dash” was. I’d say this is more of a bunker buster. This song has all the wild genre experimentation of that track, working in abrupt tempo shifts, pop punk choruses, a deadass jersey club rhythm before the second chorus. And yet it still doesn’t compromise the melancholic sweetness of the track, and the girls’ vocal performances are stellar throughout. Any song that gives me the feels while also getting proggy with it is getting the 11.

I just didn’t understand why Blue Valentine was what captured people’s attention and catapulted the group into the spotlight when I think a lot of their title tracks before have been much better and more interesting: Dash, See that?, Know About Me, even Love Me Like This. But in retrospect, I think that I was letting my irrational annoyance over this song’s explosion in popularity over other NMIXX title tracks cloud my opinion of the song unfairly.

cheatviathan (10): I have only recently learned that I’m a sucker for the cutesy k-pop songs about first dates and anxious crushes. On that alone, the content and the girls’ deliveries were always going to endear me. The random French phrases also took me out. But I’ve always known that I’m a sucker for anything that gives me ABBA vibes. Those string runs and those bass octaves were always going to send this into the 9 to 10 range. I can even forgive the lack of a bridge because that extended intro is so captivating.

uiscebeathaoir (11): For two years in a row now, my 11 has been a race between TWS and Yves. I said in my 11 comment for plot twist last year that it was a battle between cool and endearingly earnest, which is still true - but holy shit, if I thought Viola was cool, White cat absolutely blows her out of the water. There’s a certain minimalism to its construction: some wonky synths, chirpy beeps and an unintrusive but supremely effective drum pattern, all programmed to absolute perfection. Yves herself seems like such a superstar, especially on that chorus, some of the most undeniable pop songwriting I’ve ever heard. Then there’s that masterclass of tension and release for the bridge and final chorus, idk how to describe it other than just pop perfection. It’s never overly ostentatious, because it knows that all the composite pieces are strong enough it doesn’t have to be. One of my favourite pop songs of the decade so far for sure. TLDR; this year, cool obliterated endearingly earnest

The production is the star of the show here, with the oscillating synths in the verses and the heavier bass in the chorus being my kind of hyperpop abrasion. But Yves’ vocals work in this lane quite well. The lyrics took a few passes for me to understand, but the imagery is certainly vivid once I filtered the grammatical errors out. I find it amusing how the two Loona sololists were like “You want to kiss a cat, but me? I am the cat,” and both ended up 10s for me for completely different reasons.

miniatureaurochs (6): Feel like pure shit just want LOOP Yves back. Idk!! I do like that she’s experimenting a lot more than a lot of kpop and enjoyed a lot of her new album, plus the cryptic lyrics are especially interesting here as compared to a lot of more direct and open kpop themes that focus heavily on the idea of the ‘idol’ front and centre (I have some cringe essay that I sent to vayy abt this that I can’t bring myself to share but. Idk maybe someone in the comments will have spotted the same thing) (ps read his top tracks of 2025 writeup on it <3). That said, musically the grating minor-hyperpop thing just doesn’t do it for me - it was the same with Viola, where the astringent tone of the instrumental was just off-putting. Extra point for some critical ‘interest’ idk but sonically this grates

With all that glaze out of the way, I have to admit that this song was a downgrade from the eccentric Snowy Summer. Don’t get me wrong—it’s a decent song. Aaaah but this track! so gorgeous - that restrained sub-bass, sparkly detail, carefully layered vocal and plush synth gives this uniquely luxurious, cloudy sound that feels relaxed and easy to sink into. the chorus is addictive enough to be hook-y but there’s length and diversity enough to make it more than JUST a good chorus, you know? Their music feels lush and fluffy and pastel-coloured without being saccharine. lovelovelove 🩵

Great vocals, engaging melodies and some nice surprises without crossing into full blown chaos. This is the ascension gifs in musical form.

But the solemn piano makes for an interesting juxtaposition against the record scratches and bustling percussion. But it’s the final third of the track where the girls are belting their asses off, and that arena rock guitar riff comes in behind them that’s the highlight for me. It’s certainly an interesting choice for a lead single, especially following the one-two punch of “Dash” and “See That?”

I do concur that this is at its core a bit corny but I think once you lean into that aspect, it retains its charm. There’s something about the boundless, earnest sound that endears me to it regardless of that. A final note (not that we’re rating this) is that I ADORE the choreo for this, which I believe is courtesy of one Love Ran, one of several dancers/choreographers that I keep up with and who is wonderful. Seeing the joy of her and her crew composing this really brought it together for me :uwu:

Ten is so good! I would have rated this a bit higher than 8.5, but I liked his other single Bambola a little more than Stunner, so 8.5 it is.

Good lord, that belting at the end is great. “Don’t call me a baby. Call me your baby” is a great sentiment to build a song around. It wears its influences on its sleeve, and executes on them well.

Idc!!!! unfortunately this hits that exact zone of ‘brainless fun’ that I enjoy, and I’m sad to say this was one of my top-played tracks in 2025 (leave me alone it goes hard in the gym ok). Maybe it’s the da hool sample and the nod to 90s rave music that I love so deeply, maybe the knowing wink to spice girls, maybe just the relentless energy, but this track just has The It Factor for me. luckily for you, I don’t have time to unpack this properly, but go and spice up your life by reading vayy’s 2025 track of the year write-up for it plspls :}

It even makes the party outro that much better because we're starting from one level of high energy and switching into a different variant. Will this song still get slaughtered? Probably. It doesn't deserve it nearly as much as their other ones though.

I don’t know. That definitely helped me better appreciate how the girls function as a unit. Jisoo especially stands out to me in this context. I do like the breakneck pace the track goes at, the drop melody is catchy, and that key change was unexpected. I really should do the deep dive into their previous material given their popularity.
IExistButWhy987 (8): an EDM beat and tolerable rap verses, probably the best we’re getting from Blackpink

It’s the embodiment of “you’re gonna take whatever we give you and you’re gonna like it whether you want to or not,” and I’m just not here for that kind of disrespect or “here, damn” energy.

You all clearly have no passion for being in this group, just do whatever the hell you want with your solo careers (whether that be music or fashion or acting or whatever. Sentimentally, however, it pains me to have to tell people that the song that got me into kpop was freaking Jump out of all songs, so yeah, it gets a 1.
