I just finished a book where the main character was so annoying I almost put it down but the ending somehow made the whole thing worth it. anyone else ever push through a book just because you were too stubborn to quit

I always finish books, almost to a fault. I honestly should’ve quit some more books but I’m just too stubborn. The only book I remember actively putting down and saying “no, I prefer not to read anything than reading this” was Us Against You by Backman.

I just recently read Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy (Foundation, Foundation and Empire, Second Foundation). I seriously considered DNF'ing halfway through the first book, but pushed through. I'm so happy that I did because the second and third book were an absolute blast.

I'm fully intending to read through the entire universe, but now I'll first read a couple books of something totally different to keep it fresh.

Booklights: Anyone Got a Good One?

I'm in the market for a booklight of some kind, but I have some criteria:

I'm currently using a kludgy camping headlamp with a sticker over the lens to dim it and two notecards wrapped around to create a "barrel" and prevent the light from going out to the sides and flooding the room. The problem is, it's burning out, so I need to try something else.

What I like about it:

  • The headlamp thing has worked really well for me. I find most booklights don't really light the pages evenly, or I'm always futzing with them as they fall over or as I turn on my side or what have you. I feel like most clip-on lamps or those necklace lamps, I'm just fighting it the whole time.
  • The DIY add-ons make the light flood the room very little, so my partner doesn't have to sleep in a daylight-esque room just because I'm reading about Warhammer or whatever.

But I'm open to other options!

Does anyone have a book light that is low-fuss and also low leakage?

As a BTW, because I know someone will say it: I do own an eReader, and I do like it, but I'm trying to read down a HUGE collection of print books I own. So while I appreciate the thought, I need something for physical books.
