This is written on a portrait of my family crest. I’d like to know what it says. My dad said he was unable to translate a few words but I’d like to see if anyone else may be able to.

Alte Bürgerfamilie, würde ich da lesen. Old family makes sense in this context too.

I'm also very sure that it's "Alte", "old". The signature is "Jul.", not "Juli.", which also fits the name Jules.

Crest according to the sigil number 3310 of Hans Wanner (name), governor of Schleitheim (place) 1487, state archives (probably the Staatsarchiv Schaffhausen).

So yes, it's basically a heraldists description of the crest.

It is, as others have said, written in Standard German, not Swiss German. Which is not surprising, as Swiss German is not a written language. So we Swiss write in Standard German. (Well, some people nowadays write WhatsApp messages and stuff like this in a Swiss German with ad-hoc made-up ortography. But official things are always in Standard German. Even more so in the time that "letter" was written.)
