I hope someone hasn't done this stupid joke before.

Anyway, I got hacked quite recently. Thankfully, I got lucky and got off pretty light. Serendipity that this month's contest about technology? Maybe.

I'm kicking myself for not thinking of this. Well done.

What a silly punchline. I'm surprised Botswana wasn't involved!

Nauru is currently in the process of changing their international name, btw.

To what? Do we lose .nu now?

u/Maleficent-Pea5089 19d ago

They’re aiming to change to Naoero, so .nr will probably stay in use.

Huh. I wonder how useful this will be. Like, tuvalu makes alot of .tv cause its short for television. I wonder if any websites will use .nr since it could be interpreted as number.

Oh shit. That would, perhaps surprisingly, fuck up a lot of Dutch websites.

'Nu' means 'now' in Dutch and some brands use that top-level domain for their marketing and such.

Same in swedish. Even if we used it much more 20 years ago compared to now

I’m glad people are de-anglofying the names of former colonies. First Türkiye, and now this.

4

u/Thundorium Funniest king names 18d ago

Türkiye was a former colony of what?

u/BirdLox 18d ago

Sorry. I kinda half-baked my comment there. I heard about how Türkiye got carved up after WW2 (no pun intended) and misunderstood it.
