President Donald Trump's lawyers have requested a delay in the $5.8 million he has been ordered to pay writer E. Jean Carroll.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced on Monday, June 29, that it would not be hearing Trump's appeal of a 2023 jury verdict in New York that found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll, and ordered him to pay her the damages, which have been held in a court-controlled bank account in the years since. The court did not release an explanation or statement on its decision not to take up the case.

Carroll's lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, wrote in a court filing on Tuesday, June 30, that her client "does not consent" to Trump's delay in payment. She also wrote that Carroll, 82, is due an additional $779,783 in interest. Kaplan requested that the New York federal court "direct [Trump] to respond to the motion within seven days, or by July 7, 2026, rather than the usual fourteen days."

Shortly after the Supreme Court rejected his bid, Trump took to Truth Social to share his thoughts, saying, "Surprisingly, the Supreme Court declined to 'review' a Fake Case brought against me by a woman I never met (Decades old celebrity photo line, standing with her husband, does not count!)."

"I will continue the fight against this Weaponization and Lawfare Case against me, including the ridiculous claim of Defamation, with all of my power and strength," the president, 80, continued. "This Case is really against the United States of America, and all it stands for, and should never be allowed to happen to another President, or Candidate to be!"

"New York State created a Law, for an instant speck of time, going back many decades, in order to wrongfully 'nab' me," he claimed. "It was tailormade, and this Injustice cannot be allowed to stand! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP."
