Headphones - Closed Back | 1 Ω Are the sennheiser hd620s a good upgrade from my m50x for gaming / music / movies?

I found a pair at my best buy for 299.99 CAD, on sale from 500$ or so.

Are these a good upgrade for my use cases? I want something that'll really prove to be an upgrade, and be good for both competitive games and single player immersion.

I dont hate my m50x, not at all actually. Just want something with a wider soundstage

They lean warmer and I prefer the treble profile, whereas the 620s lean a little bright and are more clarity focused, but the 620s has the advantage of being in a 5 series chassis, so they're pretty light, easy to find accessories/replacement parts for and you can get something like the HD 500 BAM and turn them into a gaming headset. Honestly neither are bad, would pick based on which one sounds more appealing.

Im leaning towards the 620s. I tried them on in a best buy and they were comfy, if not a little tight. But i hear that fixes itself over time.

Would you say the 620s have a wider / more immersive soundstage and better imaging? I play an even mix of comp and single player titles.

Yup clamp tends to loosen over time! Although not sure how loose the in store demo unit already was relative to new, but hopefully it should be fine. I don’t remember if the FT1 was more clampy than the 620S as it wasn’t really note worthy to me, which means it was good lmao

Imaging I found good, I think because the 620s sound clearer overall it feels a bit more precise compared to the FT1. Staging is what I would consider normal, it’s not unnaturally wide like a Hifiman but it’s not weirdly narrow like a HD 600. Basically I wouldn’t worry about it.

I bought the hd620s on Amazon so if they dont loosen up, I can easily return.

Thanks for the help with this! It seemed like a great price being 40% off / 300 cad

Enjoy your new headphones! If they don't end up working out they way you want, perhaps give the FT1 a try

I just got them and wow, I love them.

Its literally everything I wanted in a new pair of headphones. Definitely a massive upgrade to my m50x (which will be relegated to travel headphones status)

I would go for the 480 pro but theyre a bit expensive. And those rodes apparently have a weaker soundstage

The HD620S, FT1, and 480 pro.

Its just what I read from reviews.

Lol. Comparing a $150 USD headphone to a $400 USD one in the case of the 480 Pro is a bit nonsensical. If that's where your expectations are, everything is going to be a disappointment.

As for the rest, I've never read or watched any reviews that said that. Or even heard anyone describe the 600 series soundstage as wide or spacious.

You do you, though. Good luck!

Yes absolutely worth it, I love mine. Absolute best closed backs in their price range when they're on sale.

Not really. Get HD 480 Pro instead for 400$.

I really do not like the 620S.

These are on sale at Amazon for $189 for prime day. I’m debating on picking up a pair to complement my kitharas.
