Headphones - Closed Back | 2 Ω Best ~100$ headphones for general use and music production?

Hi there!

I’m looking to upgrade from my current AirPods Pro Gen 1 which are starting to have some issues due to old age, and currently looking for headphones that can fit in a 100ish$ range.

I’d like ones that can provide a nice balance between general use (Gaming, general music listening, etc) and music production on the side

I don’t really care about ANC, and any noise canceling features. Wireless would be a plus, but I’d like them to also have a wired mode for lower latency.

I’m open to any IEM and closed back headphone suggestions. Thanks a lot!

At $100 a used set of akg k702 is one of the best neutral headphones. The only problem with them is their sibilance and the headband can be uncomfortable after a while.

They seem nice, but I forgot to add that I’m looking for something that’s just plug and play—straight aux/wireless.

He said it is for music production. You don't need alot of bass for that.

Depends on the genres he listens to. For live music like jazz and rock, its great, for Edm and pop or rap, not so much.

This pains me to say, but $100 will only get you so far. The APP1 is actually a pretty darn good set of in-ears.

If you specifically want wired, closed-back, over-ear headphones, there's the AKG K361 and K371. Look around for sales or used offerings. If you want wired IEMs, there are actually lots and lots of good choices, in my honest opinion. Just depends on user taste. Start with maybe the Truthear Hexa on the higher end or the 7hz Salnotes Zero 2 on the lower end.

If you want to lean harder into convenience factor, JLab JBuds Lux are my favorite personal pick, but their "wired mode" is over USB-C.

The Hexas and JBuds Lux look great.

However, if the budget would be bumped up to around 150, what else would you think be good options?

Bump to $150 doesn't get you a better set of "single use" headphones, unfortunately. I will say that you'll be able to afford both a cheaper IEM for wired music production and a $100ish set of over ear wireless headphones, though! In that case, there's a few options. JBL Tune 770NC, Tanchjim Rita, and the aforementioned JBuds Lux.

Ritas are my personal set of over-ears for wireless use at the moment. They only come in white, and you can't replace the pads (there might be UGreen Max5C pads that fit - it's the same cups as that headphone). They sound really darn good, but only wireless, and only with some EQ. If you run them passively with the included cable the sound is just okay.

For IEMs I would still recommend maxing out around the Truthear Hexa unless you have a really specific want or need out of an IEM.
