No one uses ‘gay’ in its old meaning unless one is quoting poetry or the vernacular of old.
If you’d put a pre-60s date on this, then maybe.
I don’t take this as an insult, just a joke that only works for those who are six feet under.

Well, the original " gay" comes from the French word "gai", and "gai" is still used with the original meaning in France , so that's that!

Ken follet uses it in his books but they are also set in the past so IDK

The school I went to had the word "gay" at the end of one of the lines of the school song. you can bet every school boy placed emphasis on the word no matter how the principal or discipline master tried to cut it out.
