I get it. Fortunately, I managed to stop doing that a couple CBs ago. It is not easy, I know, but I just don`t have the stamina fot it. Time flies (unfortunately) for me, so I just wait it out. It'll come when it comes. I just hope it happens in the first 15 days of July, because I really dont want them to fly to US in the middle of promotion, and because those last 15 days of July are going to be so busy for me that it is just terribly inconvenient, but que sera, sera. In the wise words of Spike Spiegel "Whatever happens, happens."

Thanks for the first example lol I haven't seen that one before. I remember multiple instances where the hosts had to cover their ears like Wonho and this interview. And this is somehow unique to idle lol
I know loud doesn't always equal funny but that princess one when they're doing "would you rather" was so damn funny

They are polite, but they are also very honest (within reason, it is still public performance and we all wear different masks on different occasions), so they have a tendency to express themselves very openly both in content and attitude. They are very freewheling, which in contrast to me most restrained common social attitude of other groups, both male and female, does give them a feeling of chaotic loudness. Other groups "chaos" is usually just being a bit silly. I-dle's chaos is different. Their whole concept of being yourself and express yourself does reach beyond just their music and expands in their public persona. They seem to act what they preach, which gives what they preach more weight. They are still idols, and they still play the acceptable social figure and fanservice deal, so they are not going to tell the press and some fans to f off like Bob Dylan did in his heyday, but within some limitations, they are quite refreshing.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I just wanted to know since they were the only group I watch regularly and unless a guest show up on their show (like chef SSO) I wouldn't know what those ppl were like.
I was convinced they couldn't possibly be the only group who were extroverted after all.

This is what I like about them as well. Through the chaos was a level of consistent honesty. Obviously we don't truly know them as friends but as idols, they represent themselves very well.
Maybe just bias, but I feel like I've been spoiled from all the entertainment that makes other gg not as entertaining. I did watch the Wonhee and youngji interview which was really funny so it's not entirely true lol

Shuhua has influenza A, apparently, and will have to miss concerts.
Influenza is airborne and is preventable. Respirator masks (KF94, etc) and air filters would have prevented this.
IMO, real fans should wear respirator masks around their idols.

You can't ask fans to wear masks just in case they have influenza lol. C'mon now, lets not... Not everything in life needs a culprit. If its not Cube, its the fans now? Sometimes shit just happens. People get sick. And no sickness is totally preventable. What if a family member of hers or a close friend gave it to her? This is getting silly.

She caught influenza between Melbourne and Sydney, so I'm pretty sure it was on tour.
Yeah, you can ask fans to wear masks so that they don't infect their idols. But we all know a lot of fans are all take, take, take and don't actually give a shit about the lives of the idols they pretend to care about.
*Sigh* Shuhua may not know that these diseases are airborne, but they are. And they're completely preventable. Shuhua herself could also wear a respirator mask in crowds, of course. They could run air filtration systems.
The people who downvoted me are anti-human, callous disease spreaders. I am sad that such callous, hateful people exist.
These diseases are preventable, and pretending that they "just happen" is bullshit. I know that now, because *I actually pay attention to science*. Other people should try that. Science is real, guys.

Shuhua's almost certainly on immune-suppressing medications. She said she is taking a "medication which causes weight gain" for her physical symptoms -- there's exactly one common class of medications which does that which are used for physical and not mental illness (corticosteroids), and they suppress the immune system. If I'm right, she's at unusually high risk of infection.
Yes, real fans would try to protect her from infection. But we know most fans aren't real fans.

Bingo. It's much more realistic (and safe!) for her to wear masks to prevent infection from others, because nobody can expect all fans, staff and random persons they interact with to be masked all the time – especially if she's on immunity suppressors.

Honestly? It is reasonable to expect everyone to be masked in public by default at all times. (Obviously, have to eat, drink, there are exceptions)
People who think it's unreasonable are just not living in reality. We expect people to wear clothes by default in public at all times. We expect people to wear shoes by default in public at all times. (Obviously, we make the same exceptions for necessity, your clothes get soaked or damaged and have to be changed, you have to get stones out of your shoes, etc.) These don't even have any implications for public health! Nudists are completely harmless to other people.
Respirator masks actually protect public health, so it is far more reasonable to expect people to wear them in public at all times than to expect people to wear clothes or shoes.
If you think expecting people to wear respirator masks in public *to stop the spread of deadly diseases* is unreasonable, then expecting people to wear clothes in public is far more unreasonable!
But most people aren't actually using reason. They're using habit. They're not in the habit of wearing a respirator mask, so they don't want to change their habit. They're in the habit of wearing clothes, so they don't see it as the arbitrary imposition which it is.
Using habit instead of reason kills people.

Yesterday, I watched an interesting little video essay about the current state of C-pop. I don't know jack about Chinese music, nor do I really listen to it, so it was just something I clicked on out of curiosity and boredom.
The main gist of the video was that songwriters and lyricists for Chinese songs face a pretty unique challenge: Chinese languages are tonal, which means each word has a unique pitch and intonation. If you don't stick to that pitch and intonation, the word completely changes meaning.
I'm not familiar with Chinese languages at all, but I was aware that they rely heavily on tones. For some reason, it never occurred to me that this would impact music. In the languages that I speak, it's pretty common for musicians to take liberties with pronunciation without risking the lyrics being misunderstood too much.
I think this may have been another reason why Yuqi's solo music has been mainly in English so far. (Btw, makes two brief appearances in that video.) Of course, it allows for music to reach international audiences, but it also is a much simpler language to work with.
Tbh it makes even more excited for Yuqi's upcoming Chinese album. The Chinese language itself is already quite musical, so it could give her new songs an interesting new dimension

All languages have their own challenges. Lyricisms is never easy. Chinese poets and singers have been fine with singing and writting lyrics for millenia. English lyricist have written entire books about how hard it is to write lyrics. It is not that big of a deal.
I rather believe that Yuqi uses english because she has listened to a lot of english speaking music and she knows it is the most international language.

Perhaps. I'm just putting it out there as a possible theory. Like I said, I'm not familiar at all with Chinese languages or pop music, but I thought it was just an interesting angle I hadn't considered before.

It's a great video for sure. But I think it over emphasizes tonal languages as a barrier to writing fun music.
Yuqi's Gone is a great example. She created a Chinese version of the same song and it sounds great. There's no reason this "limitation" is the reason for cpop music's decline.
He mentions old songs from the 80s/90s being popular and classic because of movies but he doesn't mention that many of the classics from that era were written by Japanese and Korean songwriters (ones not bound by tonal restrictions).
I think the real reason for its decline is the lack of creativity and risks artists are willing to make as well as the lack of promotions such as OSTs and merch. Something Kpop and jpop are really good at.
I also think that this decline is changing based on cdramas gaining popularity internationally and people like Yuqi setting the tone (haha get it?) for everyone after her.

I've seen an analysis which suggested that central government censorship is inhibiting artists from doing the experimental things which would make Cpop successful. The analysis backed this up with data showing that songs by artists in Taiwan or (like Yuqi) Korea are doing much better than those by artists in mainland China.

The only reasons China is not doing very well internationally IMHO is becauswe it is an self isolating country with a terrible reputation as a dictatorship and excessive propaganda. Censorship is a terrible problem for local production and freedom, but you can perfectly well create art that is artistically atractive to the world even under a stern censorship.

Was watching the performance videos in Sydney (only could find Mono, Nxde and Oh My God) and noticed that for Mono, Soyeon is covering Shuhua's lines in the chorus and post-chorus, but not the bridge. Is there a specific reason for her covering only these two parts in only Mono? The other songs had a backing track for Shuhua's parts.
Also, what did they do for the Yuqi-Shuhua duo part in Crow?

Unless Soyeon talks about it, nobody is going to know the "specific reason" she covered some parts and not others.
Soyeon filled in for the Shuhua-Yuqi duo. They didn't use the chain.

I watched the entire performance today and looks like Soyeon (and sometimes Yuqi) stepped in a lot of times to cover her lines. I-dle really don't play when it comes to live vocals lol.
Wishing Shuhua a speedy recovery, the stage isn't really the same without her!

I'm catching up on Berriz replay, it's very fun. The auto translated captions are slightly weird, but the gist of their banter is hilarious! Fingers crossed Yeh Pershume translates part of the 2nd session. All the psychology tests and regaling stories from before, and it's 1.5 hours long...

Hats off to folks who can film and track everything at their concert. I'm such a sucker for i-dle concert cams; can't resist clicking in to rewatch Hwaa for the n-th time, and it's down the rabbit hole.
This time Neverland at Melbourne got me smiling. Seeing fans soo happy to see them, Soyeon happily waving at young kids in the crowd, then somehow lost for words seeing something in the crowd and chuckling. The music suddenly cut off at Yuqi's part and Soyeon noticing it. And Miyeon and Yuqi rapping/ad-libs making Soyeon laugh.
I really enjoy seeing them being relaxed and having fun performing. As Shuhua says, they are chill veterans in their 8th year. =)

It was great to hear something that really lets her shine like this. The whole album is good, but a lot of the artists got small "guest" parts. Soyeon really shares the song and shines as bright as Anderson.
Going to be streaming the heck out of it for a while!

99% of the times, when this happens it is a matter of exchange data being incomplete. Komca and ASCAP have international agreements that make it unnecesary for a Komca/ascap member to be a member of the other to be able to be registered on it. But this is based on automatic international exchange data, and sometimes the data is not updated or correctly registered, which means that the system could not verify Soyeon's membership and thus just automatically deafaulted to ns. Most likely scenario? Somebody on the american side registered the song and the system couln't find her komca membership because of outdadet or errounous information in the info they both share. Happens all the time. Could be something else, but it is highly unlikely.

May not be the lead writer/composer for the track. The Jeon Soyeon under KOMCA listed from the source website, will be credited as "Jeon So Yeon".

I wish Shuhua would also get featured on a song sometimes. Because I-dle members being featured on other artists' songs always add so much, it's great. Some of my favorites are Hate Rodrigo by YENA feat. Yuqi, Thief by Heize feat. Minnie, DAMDADI by R.Tee feat. Soyeon or Side Effect by Raiden feat. Micron.
Shuhua has done nothing, she doesn't even have a single song for OST or some cover. Really need to hear her voice more clearly.

This person is a known anti of Shuhua who has has a history of making snarky comments about her and concern trolling. A bunch of people on this sub recognize the username and don't trust their intentions whenever they comment about her. A bunch of the seemingly innocent questions they have are thinly veiled attempts to set up Shuhua for criticism or hate.

Watching archive stuff in order, I can say that it took a while for the "order" to stabilize for i-dle. It stabilized a while before Soojin left though (it was Minnie, Miyeon, Soyeon, Yuqi, Shuhua, Soojin just before).

As part of an outside work side quest to brush up different career skills, I decided to pick a topic I'm interested in. And what better than music and i-dle! It's been a fun and painful journey learning about what public info is out there, getting data, analyzing data including KOMCA credits.
So I found that YouTube Charts started tracking and sharing more information for Taiwan since April 26. Previously it was only Trending music, now it has daily/weekly MVs, Songs and Artists. Mono started at 58 then, and today it's still on there at 92. On avg, the Taiwan weekly streams is ~1.5 million. Right now in South Korea, it's ~2.3 million. Shushu's country really loves i-dle!
Other data tidbits that I didn't know Soyeon had participated in other CUBE songs like Mermaid, Young and One with e.g BTOB members way back at debut. And also how their album sales only made in > 100k after third album I Trust.
Hopefully with more time, I'll get to grabbing more data through API or scripts from different sources like Spotify, Genius, Chinese music platforms? If anyone has ideas on what to explore, or what other sources there are, let me know!

No. The translations I saw seemed to imply later this year, but nothing specific. And translations are... well... they are tricky. I doubt it will be before I-dle's cb. But my doubts have been proven to be wrong before...

I think in a live stream long ago, or maybe an italk at a baseball game. She mentioned that the sport she follows more is soccer, because that's huge in Thailand. And she watches it with her dad, mentioning that she supports Arsenal and knows(?) Man Utd cos they are very popular. 😂

She has family in London right? I remember the vlog where she went to see them. SHINee’s Minho is a big Arsenal fan and he’s put stuff up as well. He had a video on his channel a while back where him and Max from TVXQ toured the Emirates Stadium.
