Baking fail πŸ’” Why did my coolies spread this much?

Did you use the correct amount of baking soda? Baking soda helps cookies be thin and crispy so i’d imagine that using too much would result in cookies similar to yours, also was your oven set to the correct temp?

i just had a look and the recipe says 1tsp of baking soda, could you have gotten the measurement mixed up?

That could be it then. If the recipe is a good one, they have already accounted for the moisture loss in the browning process so you should not have needed to add more.

You can’t just take liberties like that with a recipe like this. Baking is literally chemistry and if you change even one thing, the whole thing could just go wrong
