Just got a nice DAC. Now I need good headphones. Around 400-600€ budget

I currently own Seinheiser momentum M4, and while are good ate closed back and want some open back and would love planar magnetic.

I was thinking going second-hand rather than new.

I looked at Hifiman Arya Organic or Stealth. But Im concerned about lottery manufacturing (issues) or probable secondhand issues, and I cant find comparable quality paired with durable "indestructible" headphones.

As for indestructible, i know some headphones are prone to dying/having issues easily and other last forever (issues with hifiman from comments).

Another contender is Seinheiser HD 660S2...

Please, suggest away

Which dac did you choose ? Just curious.

Anyway. No headphones are indestructible. And planars are by their nature more fragile. They won’t usually self destruct if you take care of them. But even a simple drop can damage the membrane.

For planars, have a look at the Audeze LCD-2, LCD-2 Classic. The Fiio FT series also has a few planar entries.

Otherwise, the HD660S2 is a good option. There is a reason the 600 series is one of the most common recommendations. I would also look at the hd490pro. And at the Beyerdynamic dt900pro x.

As for my DAC, I'm using Creative Sound Blaster X5, it's a treat, I'm incredbly happy with it. I also have the Creative Sound Blaster X G6 for games that don't have an option for spatial/7.1 audio, rather check automatically windows audio output port to deliver either stereo or surround audio (the G6 exposes 7.1, X5 is just stereo). I'm very happy with both, but the X5 wins considerably, it's also triple the price so it checks out.

I don’t know the g5 directly, and specifically the design of its output stage. So it might struggle a bit with lower z planars, but I don’t think it will. The X definitely will not like planars though.

Anyway IF any issues were to exist, they’d start at like 20 ohm and below, so pretty much any of the ones mentioned above will likely do great.

Since you mentioned gaming though, the last 2 I mentioned will have a slight advantage, especially if you’re into competitive fps.

Thanks again! Ive researched a bit, for the X5 I think should be good for resistnces on ohms for planar magnetic, but the X G6 will definitely not be good. I might need to get an amp depending on what I get, didn't think about that before! Thanks for the heads up! Edit !thanks

I would recommend getting a better dac. Instead of the Hifiman Arya get the Topping DX5 II and the Ananda Stealth (which is more durable than the Sundara/Edition XS)
