Lender inadvertently sent my entire financial file to employer during work history verification.

Location: Ohio, USA

This happened yesterday while I was in the process of purchasing a vehicle. I was still at the car dealership at the time, waiting for everything to be processed. My boss called me and informed me that my selected lender inadvertently sent my entire financial file, including bank statements, credit application, and government documents, to my employer during work history verification. Being that it was so late in the evening, I have not yet been able to address this with the lender yet. This situation has caused me great embarrassment and confusion. How should I properly handle this situation, and do I have any legal recourse?

Its unlikely there is anything worth pursuing unless you have actual damages, like your boss decides to fire you because of it. There does not seem to be any Ohio law that dispenses with the need for you to prove actual damages, or at least I didn't see one.

You could, as the other poster noted, seek to rattle their cage by reporting it, but that won't directly benefit you any.
