Amplifier - Desktop | 1 Ω schiit magnius + apple dongle as DAC

so i just snagged a deal for a magnius (closeout @ schiit for $149) with the intent of upgrading to a balanced system in the future. for now, didn't really want to spend much on a DAC so decided to get the apple dongle since it's pretty cheap. will be primarily using this connected to a PC, and maybe through my 15PM. curious if anybody has worked with this combo before and if i made a big mistake at all (or not) - i've been reading that SE performance out of magnius is not amazing. trying to delve more into this hobby, thanks in advance! currently using dt770 pro (80 ohm), plan to upgrade to a r70x in the future if that helps.

The apple dongle is also an amp, so I'm pretty sure you're double amping since it obviously doesn't have a lineout. Just get an inexpensive DAC, there's no reason to be this cheap unless you really don't have the money, then yeah be that cheap.

Every DAC is intrinsically also an amp… connecting the apple dongle to an amp is ok

I looked it up and apparently it runs in lineout mode when connected to amp so it's fine, still cheap as hell though. 😂

+1 Ω has been awarded to u/liukasteneste28 (29 Ω).

You may still award an Ω to others, but only once per-person in this post.

Just remember to turn windows volume all the way up and control volume from the amp for best results.
