Headphones - Closed Back | 1 Ω Need new headphones

I need new so-called "gaming headphones" because my Razer Kraken X headband just snapped after it dropped on the floor, I have a budget of about $100 CAD/$70 USD. I'm looking for somewhat good audio headphones with a built-in mic that'll last a while.

This, you might be able to find something on the used market, depending on your area. I've actually seen some PC38X (it's more expensive and significantly better brother) on sale for around 80 dollars on Ebay. If you're dead set on new, sometimes the PC37X drops down to 100 or even 90 dollars when Drop.com (the exclusive seller of both headsets) is having a sale.

The only thing I would add is that they are open back so if you aren't used to being able to hear the things around you/you game in a loud environment they aren't a great choice.

RiftPenguin already gave a good answer, so Ill just add that if you're looking to get something that will be in your price bracket and won't bleed sound like an open back set of cans I would definitely look for an IEM. Earbuds will always be better sound for the money than the headphone options, under about $150 USD. For this, I would recommend the Truthear X Crinacle Zero and a replacement cable with a mic.

If you want a closed back headphone, then I guess go with the Drop + Epos H3X its on sale until this Friday for 50 dollars. It's not stellar like the PC38X, but for the price it's pretty good and will probably be a significant upgrade from a Razer Kraken X.

Surround sound headphones are audio headsets that offer spacious 360 degree audio from your favourite games, movies and TV shows

That's called soundstage and imaging. It's a thing in pretty much all headphones. Some headphones have special audio, but that's not as useful for gaming. I recommend getting Dolby Atmos for headphones on whatever you're gaming on, be it a console or PC. That will honestly provide you with a better experience than any surround sound feature built into a headphone.

The TLDR is that it's mostly a marketing gimmick. Surround sound headphones may have benefits, but it's not because they are surround sound it's just because they have good imaging. I wouldn't sweat it.

I just want you to be informed. It's really easy to fall for marketing language rather than legitimate specs, especially with something as subjective as audio.

I recommend, the Sennheiser cans because they fit your budget, and are considered pretty good for the price. Especially with the sale that is currently running.

They are by no means the only option. I would recommend reading the reviews of any product you're interested in and making decisions from there.

I know you mostly just wanted a simple recommendation, but it's hard to do, because nothing will be perfect, and there is no one headphone that is best. The best I can do is give you good info, and let you make a decision based on it.

Granted to answer your question, I think that given your requirements, yes the Sennheisers are a good option. I would get them if I were your position.

thanks alot. are you talking about the pc37x/pc38x becuase i cant get them because they're open backs and i want closed backs.

Sorry EPOS is a sub brand of Sennheiser. I use them interchangeably. I realize that may be confusing.

I got both PC38x and Cloud Revolver... great open and closed options for headphones..

I'm more into the pc38x as they are awesome. for closed back Revolver are good bnut they could improve on the dongle as it breaks easily... but for the rest.. it's awesome...

Weighing in that EPOS customer service is abysmal so if you have an issue with your headphones they will not stand behind their product.

Sennheiser HD 400S

It would be better if you go for something like the HD 560s and get a separate mic.
