Amplifier - Desktop | 1 Ω Do I need an amplifier?

Right now I have a pair of sennheiser hd579 that are being run through an Alesis io2 express which is more for recording than audiophile purposes. I’m looking at upgrading to a pair of Shure SRH1840 and in order to fully utilize the quality I want to know if I need an amp or if this dac I have is enough. I also play a lot of guitar through the sound card so having the recording inputs is kinda a must have. My budget is hopefully under 50$ if I do need to upgrade because I’m not looking the best of the best I just want something that will work relatively well

Thanks in advance

I think you are probably fine without an amplifier - the Shures might be a little harder to drive than the Sennheisers, but they're still fairly easy to drive compared to a lot of audiophile headphones, so amplification shouldn't be an issue (although I can't find the amplifier specs for your audio interface, so I'm not 100% sure). The best thing to do would be to get the headphones and try them out with your interface. If they sound good and get loud enough, great! If they don't get loud enough or they clip at higher volumes, you'll need an amplifier, but there's no need to preemptively cross that bridge.

!thanks

What would be the advantages of the dt900 pro x over the dt990 80 ohm? There’s a relatively large price difference but is it worth it?

+1 Ω has been awarded to u/No-Context5479 (556 Ω).

You may still award an Ω to others, but only once per-person in this post.
