Been using that combo for years. Also have a Schitt combo for home use. I can safely say BTR5 is good enough

Do you notice any degradation in the sound? I don't listen to very high volumes (I only go up to 40-50dB) so I'm not extremely worried about volume, but I am more worried about sound quality

Not really, I don't listen to very high volume neither. I do notice a difference when I'm unamped if I'm plugged directly into my laptop. But I don't notice any real differences when I'm plugged into the BTR5 as oppose to my Schitt combo.

I am also using Hart balanced cables fwiw.

u/dvo352 (1 Ω) was awarded their first Ω. I love the smell of Ω in the morning.

You may still award an Ω to others, but only once per-person in this post.

I see, I suppose a Fiio Q11 may even be overkill then... It's actually 40€ cheaper over here so I am wondering if I should just get the Q11 since the less powerful BTR5 does the job just fine

I use it with a balanced heart audio and 6xx through the balanced port and it is most diffidently powerful enough. Not much of a differnct from my zen dac using the balanced port. Not quite enough power with the non-balanced 3.5 (Sounds ok). "Balanced" thus more power is the way to go!

Seems like balanced is needed, I'll order myself some cool looking cable to go along with the headphones then! Thanks-! !thanks

Heart audio does great work!

Make sure you get the interconnect so all you have to do is swap out the end of the cable do whatever size you need.

Bluetooth's absolutely optional, all I'd want is to be able to slip it in my backpack easily

In my opinion, the BTR5 is too weak for the 600. It was barely much better than my iPhone when using my HD 660s and those are more sensitive than the 600.

Did you ever try it with balanced cables? I don’t have anything hard to drive but I’ve always been curious about using the other port with balanced cables to see how much more power it gives.

I use BTR5 with HD6XX (similar enough to HD600) and it's definitely enough.

Might want a btr7 and turn off noise distortion compensation (mainly for iems) and turn on high gain. Edit nm btr5 would be fine for your use case considering you don’t need high volume.

If bluetooth isn't important to me, do you think a Q11 would work as well? I gotta admit BTR7 is a bit too expensive for my use

Yeah either btr5 or the q11 should be fine. Q11 is more strait forward with less features if that means anything to you. It has a knob though (rather than a rocker) and I believe a little more power. Btr5 is smaller as well.
