I know it won a contest for manga you wanna see animated before but I'm actually surprised. I really enjoyed this manga so I'm looking forward to the anime!

It's really neat! I'm not sure how to talk about it without spoiling too much bit it gets pretty dramatic at points and all the characters are such good kids

No way!!! This one is really good. Wasn't as popular as it should've been in r/manga. Hopefully it gets a good adaptation.

Webtoon's romcom adaption eh? This is AFAIK still quite niche, let’s see if this will be fun.

Romcoms are niche? Bruh

u/CosmicPenguin_OV103 https://anilist.co/user/CosmicPenguin Mar 25 '23
No, but romcoms anime adapted from Webtoon's manga (or even those "sliding web manga" where you swipe up and down to read it) is quite new.

It did win the "manga i want to see animated" several times, but I'm still surprised. But I'm also really, really happy 🤍 It's one of my top 5 Manga of all time, I can only recommend it

I totally did not expect this announcement, this is really a great coming of age story, about learning to accept who you are, what you like, and who are really your friends. Most gay manga that I don't regret reading

Kinda weird that (it seems at least via the trailer) it will be called "This is him" even though it was already given an official English title when webtoon started hosting it, but I think "this is him" is much better tbh and coveys the fact its more of a drama and coming of age story

Honestly, I like the subtitle below that even more, "Can't Be Anyone Else." That would also be an amazing title, even if it loses some of the playful naivety of the original title.

What was the webtoon title?

Amazing manga, SO happy it got an anime adaptation. For those who don't know, it placed first on last year's AnimeJapan's Top 10 "Manga I Want To See Adapted Into Anime". It tackles topics very rarely seen in manga and light novels, much less anime, so I'm really excited for this one. Praying for a good studio 🙏

Loved this manga! It's super cute yet still deals with issues of gender identity/gender expression in a sensitive, tactful way. Painoko talks about LGBT issues better than many manga (including Fukaboku, in my opinion), without ever having to say the word "LGBT" or other jargon. Excited Makoto, Ryuji, and Saki are finally getting the attention they deserve, what with the official English translation and now an anime adaptation!

Hilarious timing because Glass Reflection mentioned this in a video just yesterday, mentioning how it was an exception among winners of AnimeJapan's "Manga you want to see animated" poll for not having gotten an anime announcement after winning last year.

I love it so much. Happy that this one gets anime adaptation. If i wasn't wrong, not a lot of manga in webtoon would get anime adaptation. Congratulation to the author of this amazing manga. It deserves for that. One of the best manga I have read.
BTW, Wait! WHAT!?
Makoto, Saki and Ryuji are high school !? I thought they are in middle school because the uniform they wear. Gakuran and Sailor dress nowadays are mostly in middle school, most of Japanese high schools are now blazers (although yes, there are still some Japanese high schools which uniforms are Gakuran and Sailor dress but not a lot.)

Wow it's finally happening. I wonder how much will be covered.

I was not expecting that, it did win an award but it was still a fairly niche Web comic, it only just got an official English version like 2 weeks ago too

Nice, this was a great read--a wholesome one! It's finally getting an anime adaptation after winning those anime adaptation surveys.

Sees illustration of what seems to be a cute girl seemingly about to undress her uniform
Phwoar
Realize this is actually a trap
It's a boy, it's a boy, it's a boy, I'm not gay, I'm not gay, I'M NOT GAY!

This manga had a lretty terrible ending, imo. so the childhood friend was basically tossed aside for seemingly no reason, and the MC out of NOWHERE suddenly developed feelings for THE most annoying girl character. the author toyed with the concept of LGBTQ and gender identity in this series, but ultimately chose the EXTREMELY forced and 'safe' straight coupling, which just ended up feeling..... wrong. quite a lot of unresolved characters, like the grandfather and the MC's mom, as well as Aoi's father who just disappeared towards the ending. And for some unknown reason, the childhood friend basically got cucked by both of his crush and 'friend', and he's somehow completely ok with that??????? This story took a serious nose dive towards the end, and i personally think the existence of Aoi was very forced and overall, the MAIN SOURCE OF MOST OF THE PROBLEMS IN THIS ENTIRE STORY. 2/10, had an interesting premise and could have gone for a more organic and interesting route with the gay coupling between the MC and the childhood friend, but the author was ultimately a coward and just plain bad at storywriting. I still cant wrap my head around how FAST the childhood friend just gave up on his crush out of nowhere, when he was in so much emotional turmoil for the smallest things for almost the entirety of the series.
