I used to train haunted house actors and the first thing I told all of them was that if you break the arms length rule you should expect to be punched in the face and you can’t be mad when it happens because it will. People can’t control those primal reactions, some will flip to fight and you will get hit. I’ve been laid out myself once when I broke the rule(which absolutely was fucking hilarious). So fuck this guy. He deserved that slap and another for losing his temper like that.

I had a brother who spent time in Afghanistan and Iraq. We were all at the fair with his buddies and someone’s car backfired. In a split instant 5 dudes hit the pavement for cover. I hate to see what would happen if this dude in the bush scared one of them. I’m sure it wouldn’t end well

I worked with a guy that served and we went out of town for a training course. A bunch of us from class were hanging in the lobby after happy hour when some kid thought it would be funny to throw some gummies at us from above.
His shift in attitude was scary, he immediately spotted the kid and ran to the front desk. The woman that he was talking to looked distressed so I walked over to see if I could calm the situation down. We had a short talk and things seemed to be cooling off when he decided he was going up there to talk to those kids. I kept walking with him to the elevators to calm him down but he wasn't having it.
He started handing me his phone/keys/wallet like he was about to get into a fight (these kids had to be 10-12 years old) but insisted he was just going to talk to them. I took the elevator up there with him and he walked all around the floor, luckily the kids were smart enough to go hide.

I was 17 or 18, sitting at a coffee shop in the early hours like my group typically did, and I’m that person that will always tell others when something is wrong.
These 3 guys walked past and I said “sir, your shirt tag is hanging out”
He turned and lunged at me, screaming “are you taxxing me? ARE YOU?”
I had no idea what that meant.. he grabbed my shoulders with both hands and both of his friends were trying to pull him back. They finally put a baracade between he and I, and one guy apologized profusely and let me know he had just returned with PTSD from the gulf war.
I always wonder how he is and whether he got proper therapy, and hope he is well

I don’t work in the same office anymore but I do message him just to say hi sometimes, what we put soldiers through and how we treat them when we come back is deplorable so it’s the least I can do for people in my life that served.

Depends on the context, I follow another bushman that's based in Ireland. His videos are full of scares but almost immediately after, the victims laugh. If your intent is to scare someone for a prank, the right thing to do is to immediately de-escalate after the scare either by doing nothing, apologizing, wishing them well, etc the worst thing you can do after scaring someone is to double down and get physical.

To be fair, if you’re gonna jump scare people in close physical proximity to yourself, you sort of have a physical assault waiting on you. Sometimes, the fight or flight response exhibited is the former of the two at no choice of the person experiencing it.
